1.2 Notes on the Use of this Handbook This document contains all general information and explanatory text necessary in order to be able to carry out the operation of the machine. When some action is expected from the operator, this will always be explicitly stated, and where relevant, accompanied by an illustration or graphic. Always read through each step, so that you will obtain all of the necessary information. Do not anticipate what you believe will follow in the handbook: It will prevent you from making mistakes! Chronology and Reference This handbook is structured chronologically, and therefore ordered sequentially for the operationally ready machine. It assumes that the machine has been installed in the correct environment by an Authorized Service Engineer and that the operator or his or her supervisor has had a degree of operator training. When you are unfamiliar with the machine, it is best to read through the handbook from beginning to end. You will be guided step by step, and in this way you can easily and quickly have the machine in operation. If you are already familiar with the machine, it will make thing easy if you use this handbook as a reference work. 2. Safety Notes For your own safety and the operating safety of the machine, read the following notes carefully before starting your machine. Always be aware of all warnings and notes that are mounted or noted on the machine itself. Save this handbook carefully, so that the information it contains may be available at all times. The machine is of advanced construction and reliable in operation. Nevertheless, the device does present hazards when operated by untrained personnel. The same applies to use that is inappropriate and not in keeping with its intended purpose. 4 2.1 General safety notes Caution! Please, read these notes with care. Save these instructions for later use. All notes and warnings found on the machine are to be followed. Installing the machine Electrical danger Operating Safety Cleaning the machine Cleaning sensors Cleaning rollers Important! The machine must be installed on a suitably strong surface. The machine is very heavy and must not be installed on a lightweight desk or surface. The machine may only be connected to a voltage of 115V/60 Hz. The mains plug may only be connected with a socket having an installed protective contact. The protective effect will be compromised by the use of an extension line without a protective grounding conductor. All interruptions of the protective grounding conductor, within or outside of the machine, are prohibited. The device is double pole fused! When fuse failure occurs, electrical machine parts can still carry voltage. When making the connection to the mains power, be aware of the connection values on the nameplate. Inspect the voltage setting on the device s power input. Run the power cable so that no-one may trip over them. Do not place any objects upon the power cable. When the machine is not in use over a long period of time, it should be disconnected from the power supply. In this way, damage would be prevented in the event of excess voltage. Protect the device from moisture. When moisture enters the machine, there is the danger of electrical shock. Never open the machine except the operator covers. For reasons of electrical safety, the machine may only be opened by authorized Service Agents. Never reach into the machine when it is running! This could only occur if a safety interlock were to fail. The danger of injuries exists, through pulling in and crushing on the rotating rollers. In addition, keep long hair and parts of loose clothing far from the machine in operation. If a safety interlock fails, your Service Agent must be contacted immediately! In order to prevent damage to the machine, only factory authorized accessory parts should be used. Prior to cleaning the exterior of the machine, it should be disconnected from the power supply. When cleaning the machine, do not use liquid or spray cleaners, but only a cloth dampened with water. When cleaning sensors use only non-flammable airdusters, eg. part number E0070A. Other types may use flammable propellants, which could result in fire or explosion. When excess toner can be seen building up on the sealer rollers, hand feeding cleaner sheets, Part No , will remove the buildup. Allow machine to be checked by Service Agents In the following cases, the mains plug must be unplugged and the device left for the authorized Service Agents: When the mains cable or plug is worn or damaged. When water or other liquid has entered the device. When the device does not function properly, in spite of following the instructions provided. When the device has fallen down or the housing is damaged. When there are noticeable differences in the normal operation of the machine. 4

Spare Parts Repairs When repair work is carried out, only original spare parts or spare parts corresponding to the original parts may be used. Do not disassemble the machine any further than is described in this handbook. Other than the top cover, the opening of the machine by unauthorized personnel is not permitted. Repairs may only be carried out by an authorized Service Agent. Modification is not permitted: For safety reasons, your own reworking and modifications are not permitted. Please contact your Service Agent, for all questions relating to service and repair. In this way, you ensure the operational safety of your machine. Important! To stop the machine in an emergency, strike the red knob next to the control panel. Important! The machine must be located on the mounting table with at least 12 space all round. 6 2.2 End of Life The objectives of the European Community s environment policy are, in particular, to preserve, protect and improve the quality of the environment, protect human health and utilise natural resources prudently and rationally. That policy is based on the precautionary principle and principles that preventive action should be taken, that environmental damage should as a priority be rectified at source. Separate collection of waste is the precondition to ensure reuse and recycling of waste that is generated at the disposal of electrical or electronic equipment and is necessary to achieve the chosen level of protection of human health and the environment in the European Community. More particularly, certain materials and components of waste electrical and electronic equipment needs selective treatment as their injudicious handling or disposing of on or into land, water or air would represent a major threat to the environment and human health. In order to facilitate collection and treatment separated from normal domestic waste, electrical and electronic equipment is marked with the following logo: Do not mix with normal domestic waste. Please use the subjoined return or collection system dedicated to electrical and electronical waste. Equipment produced after August Not only are you by law not allowed to dispose of the waste equipment via other wastestreams, but we encourage you to actively contribute to the success of such collection and to the common good and better quality of life of present and future generations. For more information on the correct disposal of this product please contact your local dealer. 6 LM-5.5 Operator Manual Issue 5 January 2012

4. MACHINE LAYOUT GUIDE 4.1 Description of machine The function of the LM-5.5 Pressure Sealer is to feed unfolded forms from a stack, fold them either once or twice, seal the cohesive edges and place them into a receiving tray. Forms can be C, Z or V in standard fold, or Eccentric Z, and also C or Z fold with pressure seal return envelope. There is also a handfeed facility to seal pre-folded forms; this feature may also be used to seal a diverted form. The output rate of the machine is 5500 pieces per hour. Each time the machine is switched on it will calibrate for double documents. Subsequently, if more than one form is fed (eg. two together), these will be diverted out of the slot at the rear of the machine before reaching the sealing rollers. The form used for calibration will also be diverted in this way (which allows checking of folds and ensures that only a single document was fed). A calibration button on the control panel is also provide to allow calibration to be performed at any time, such as if the paper size changes. A jog function is provided, which operates the machine in short spurts in order to help clear jammed forms through the paper path. A jamclearance lever is also included for stubborn jams. A fault number (in the form FLt nn ) will appear on the control panel, and this will be accompanied by a message describing the fault, the description of which will be shown scrolling on the display. These faults are also shown in Section 14 of this document. The display also indicates the forms count when the machine is running, and the counter may be reset to zero at any time, eg. when starting a new job. Note that if the button is pressed by mistake, the count can be recalled by pressing the button again. 10 LM-5.5 Operator Manual Issue 5 January 2012

9. double document calibration Each time the machine is run, it will automatically calibrate the first form to measure its size and thickness. Thereafter, if two forms are fed at the same time, they will be ejected through the slot below fold plate 2 before reaching the sealing rollers. If the paper size or weight is changed without switching off, it is advisable to use the calibration button to calibrate again, as shown below. 1. Ensure that the hopper tray is loaded (see section 8.1). 2. Press the calibration button on the control panel. A single folded document will be ejected below fold plate 2. Remove it and check that it consists of only one sheet. If OK, it can be sealed using Handfeed (see section 10 below). Ejected document slot 3. The machine is now ready for use and need not be calibrated again unless the size or thickness of the form used is changed. If a double document subsequently occurs, it will be ejected in the same manner, folded but unsealed. Note: if the document does not feed, and the fault FLt14 appears, the doubles sensor is dirty or defective. Until this is remedied, only Handfeed mode can be used (see below). 10. handfeed If required the machine can operate in manual mode, allowing, for example a single or small number of documents to be processed without setting up the rest of the machine. This function may also be used for sealing diverted forms. 1. Pre-fold the document by hand to the required fold lengths (see section for fold options), or remove the diverted form from the slot below fold plate With the machine switched on but not running, insert the folded document, with crease forwards into the slot in front of fold plate 1. Ensure it is fully inserted. The message 'hfeed' will appear on the display. Press the Run button to feed the document. 3. Repeat as often as required. IMPORTANT! Do not attempt to handfeed forms if the machine is running. 18 LM-5.5 Operator Manual Issue 5 January 2012

11. operator maintenance After a long period of use, dirt and toner can build up on the fold and seal rollers, and dust can cause the sensors to become obscured. This will need to be cleaned off to ensure reliable operation Cleaning the Fold and Seal Rollers Fold Rollers The rubber fold rollers should be cleaned using a lint-free cloth and Rubber Roller Restorer V. Be sure the machine is disconnected from the power source first. To gain access, press the button on top of the machine and open the cover. Clean the full width of the rollers, rotating them as you do so. Fold rollers Front Seal Rollers There are four seal rollers, two at the front of the machine, and two at the rear only the two front and upper rear can be accessed for cleaning. The front rollers are accessed by operating the latch shown to open the front cover. Clean the full width of the roller. Now replace the covers, reconnect the machine and use the jog function (see section 11.3) to increment the rollers. Disconnect, and raise the covers to clean the rollers again. Repeat this until the rollers are fully cleaned. The rear lower roller can be accessed by reaching in below the rollers from the front. Instead of using the jog function, the rollers can also be rotated by using the jam lever inserted in the hole in the top roller. See also section Latch Hole for jam lever Jam lever clipped in place. Issue 5 January 2012 LM-5.5 Operator Manual 19

Rear Seal Roller The rear seal roller is accessed by pressing the button on top of the machine, then lowering the cover and hinging the inner chassis open. Clean the full width of the two rollers using the same fluid as the fold rollers. Rotate the roller as for the front rollers above until it is fully cleaned. Seal roller 20 LM-5.5 Operator Manual Issue 5 January 2012

11.2 Cleaning the Sensors The optical sensors on the machine consists of two halves, spaced slightly apart. They should be cleaned at regular intervals using only a non-flammable airduster (part number C or equivalent), ensuring that both halves are cleaned. Do not use a liquid solvent on the sensors. Hold Point & Double Document Sensors Press the top button to open. Direct the air jet onto both halves of each sensor. Handfeed Sensor Direct the air jet midway along the slot and spray liberally to ensure both halves are cleaned. Eject Sensor The sensor is visible in the eject slot. Spray liberally to ensure both halves are cleaned. IMPORTANT! IF OPERATING PROBLEMS OCCUR, CLEAN THE SENSORS FIRST BEFORE INVESTIGATING FURTHER CAUSES Issue 5 January 2012 LM-5.5 Operator Manual 21

11.3 Clearing Paper Jams If paper jams occur, they can usually be cleared by using the jog function or jam clearance lever. The jog function operates the machine in short spurts to drive out the jammed document in a controlled manner. If the jam cannot be driven out by using the function on its own, the jam clearance lever can inserted in a hole in the top front roller to rotate the seal rollers manually. Jog function The function will only be available if the machine has stopped with a fault showing on the display panel - a fault number will alternate with a scrolling message describing the error. Now press the Run button and you will be asked if you wish to use the jog function. To jog forward, press the Run button again, and the machine will jog. To jog backwards press the Calibration button. This can be repeated as required until the Stop button is pressed, which will clear the jog function, and also the fault message. Assuming the cause of the fault has now been removed, operation can continue by pressing the Run button. Jam clearance lever To use the jam clearance lever, unlatch the front cover and lower it; the lever is stored in clips in the base of the machine. Insert the lever in the hole in the roller to rotate the roller set and drive out the jam. Jam clearance lever in place Storage clips Jams are most likely to take place in the infeed or fold roller areas, or in the fold plates. Raise fold plate 1, and if the paper is visible and the jam is obvious, remove the paper if possible. If it cannot be dislodged from the rollers, close the fold plate and operate the jog function as above. Jams occurring in fold plate 2 can be cleared by lifting the upper or both parts of the plate to gain access. If the jam is internal (ie. in the sealer rollers), the jog function may have to be operated quite a few times to clear the paper. If all attempts to remove the paper fail, contact the Service Department. cont. 22 LM-5.5 Operator Manual Issue 5 January 2012

Cleaning Rollers If you are using the jog function to clean rollers, it will be necessary to force a fault before the function will operate. To do this, simply remove all paper from the machine and press the Run button - after a few seconds, an out of paper fault will be flagged and the jog function can be used. Other Operating Problems Other problems may occasionally occur, caused by situations other than paper jams. A Troubleshooting Guide to assist with rectifying such problems is shown in section 13. Additionally, any fault that occurs will display a fault message on the control panel. An explanation of the fault messages, and the action to take is shown in section 14. If operating problems occur, first ensure that the paper is within specification, and that the orientation is correct. Also check that the fold plates are correctly set (see section 8.2). Clean all sensors (see section 11.2) Issue 5 January 2012 LM-5.5 Operator Manual 23

12. SUPERVISOR MODE Supervisor Mode reveals various statistics about the machine, namely Eprom version number, total running hours and overall forms count. To enter the mode, press the Stop button while the machine is displaying the 'HELLO' message after switching on. The message 'SU- PErViSOr' on the display indicates that the mode has been entered. To step down through the various functions, press the Reset button on the control panel. The functions are described below: Eprom: Hours Count: Displays the Eprom version number in the format 'Vn-nn' where n-nn is the version of the Eprom fitted to the CPU board.
