5.3 Installation site and requirements The steam generator is designed for installation outside steam room (sauna) only and should be connected to the steam room (sauna) with a steam pipeline. The following ambient climate conditions should be observed at the installation site: Ambient temperature during operation 5 C to 40 C Air humidity during operation 30% to 75% rel. air humidity Storage temperature 0 C to 60 C 5.4 Mechanical installation The Steamtec II Basic is a wall-hanging device. It is mounted to the wall with 4 screws. Please ensure that the wall is able to carry the load of min. 45 kg. We recommend to allow certain reserve for safety. Please consider that the steam generator is subject to light vibrations during operation. To mount the steam generator first take the outer housing off the chassis. See pic. 1 below. Remove two fixation screws at the bottom side on the left and on the right. Pull the side walls of the housing slightly apart, so that the mounting flaps of the housing are not blocked by the chassis. Tilt the housing with the bottom slightly forward (from wall) and lift it upwards. Take the housing off the chassis. 4. knock-out circle for steam pipe installation upwards Pic EN

535 Drill 4 mounting holes in the wall as shown on the template below. If necessary use the appropriate dowels to securely mount the screws in the drilled holes. At first screw in the two upper screws. As shown on the pic. 2. please make sure to leave 3 mm gap between the screw head and the wall surface. Pic. 2 Now hang the steam generator with the corresponding mounting holes in the chassis on these two screws. Make sure that the generator is hanging vertically (by using a spirit level). all alle sizes Maße in in mm mm After that secure the generator by screwing the bottom pair of screws to the wall through the corresponding bottom mounting holes in the chassis. After that also tighten the upper pair of screws. See the pic. 3 for details. EN Pic. 3 15

5.5 Water supply and drain connection Important Notice: Please observe the EN 1717 / DIN 1988 and DIN 1986 / EN requirements. It must be ensured that the water may not flow back into the water supply system. If necessary the additional equipment has to be installed to prevent the back-flow. Please consult your water supplier or specialist dealer. Connect the cold water supply using the included water connection hose to the water supply connector (3/4 ) on the bottom side of the generator. The supplied water should have drinking water quality. The water pressure in the supply line should be 3 to 6 bar. Connect the main drain and the additional drain hose from overpressure release valve at the bottom of the generator to the drain system. Please notice that the generator has an automatic drain system. Caution: the drain water may be hot, the appropriate precautions should be met. The limescale contained in water will lead to deposits on the inner surfaces of the water tank, which may cause overheating and considerably reduce the service life of the heating elements and of the generator. By commercial use it is obligatory to install a water softening system in order to reduce the amount of limescale getting into the generator with water. By home use such water softening system is recommended by water hardness from 14 dh (~ 2,5 mmol/l). Notice: damages resulting from the limescale deposits are excluded from warranty! 5.6 Steam pipe connection The steam pipe should be heat-resistant to at least 110 C. We recommend copper or stainless steel pipes with Ø35 mm. The steam pipeline should be reclining towards the steam outlet. Sharp angles should be avoided. If there is a risk that the water condensate may block the pipeline a syphon has to be integrated. The layout of the pipeline should prevent the back flow of the condensed water into the generator. Use the supplied 2-part brass union 1 to 35 mm for steam pipe connection. This will facilitate the connection or disconnection of the pipeline. The steam output pipe features an innovative pivot joint connection at the water tank lid. You can turn the pipe around to rise upwards. For this unscrew the fixation nut in the bottom plate and turn the steam pipe around. Push out the knock-out circle in the housing before mounting it back on the chassis. Pic. 4 Pic. 5 Notice: by the use of essence dosing systems the essence injection line should be connected to the steam pipe so that no essences may get into the water tank with the back flow of the steam or water condensate. Even the small quantity of essences in the water tank may lead to malfunctions. 16 EN

6. Electrical connections Caution! Danger of electrical shock. In the case of an incorrect electrical connection there is a danger of electric shock. Danger to life! Make sure to observe the local legal requirements and codes. All works may be carried out only by a licensed and appropriately qualified electrician. The incoming and outgoing cable connections should be drawn through the appropriate cable glands on the bottom panel of the steam generator. Make the electrical connections as shown on the connection diagrams on pages The power supply of the 18 kw version may be connected as 3 x 32 A or as 6 x 16 A depending on the local situation. 24 6.6 Leakage current Please make sure to observe the DIN EN : norm in respect to the leakage current. This norm requires that the leakage current may not exceed the following limits at the normal operating temperature: For stationary class I heating appliances - 0,75 ma or 0,75 ma per kw rated power input of the heating appliance with a maximum of 5 ma, whichever is higher. The electricity supply must be protected with a residual-current-operated protective device (RCD) with a rated fault current <30 ma. Please make sure that no other electrical appliances are protected with this RCD device. The applicable international, national and local legal norms and requirements (e.g. VDE, EU regulations) in their currently valid version should be observed. All installation and testing works should be carried out by a licensed and appropriately qualified electrician with the respect to the mentioned norms and codes (e.g. VDE 0100 part 701). All works may be only carried out when the steam generator is completely disconnected from power. 6.7 Special advice for water quality Important Notice: Water supplied to the steam generator may be contaminated with so-called plasticisers or similar substances which are able to modify the surface tension of water in the water tank. This may cause strong foam building during water boiling. Boiling water may be spilled into the steam pipe or it may cause the generator to measure the water level incorrectly and lead to overheating and tripping of the limiter fuse. Please ensure that water supply to the steam generator is free from plasticisers. Plasticisers or similar substance are for instance contained in essence oils and fragrances, certain cleaners and chemicals. They may get in water from PVC pipes and tubes. It must be ensured that the entire water supply line does not contain materials containing plasticisers. 24 EN

7. Cleaning system 7.1 General information Steamtec II Basic steam generator is equipped with an automatic descaling and draining system. Included with the delivery is a 5 l container for cleaning liquid (cleaning liquid not included, optional accessory) with the level probe. Place the container under the steam generator (see page 11 for details). Connect the 2-core white cable to the corresponding contacts of the level probe in the container. Insert the suction PTFE tube from the peristaltic pump into the container, so that the tube end reaches the bottom. Fill the container with the cleaning liquid. The liquid level will be monitored thanks to the level probe integrated in the container. By low level an error code will be given by the pilot lamp. Make sure that the bottom of the level probe does not touch the bottom of the container and has approx. 1 cm gap. Important Notice: The cleaning liquid is an acid solution. Corrosive! Irritating on skin and eyes! Make sure to wear appropriate protection and observe due precautions by refilling the container. Avoid contact with clothing. For further details please refer to the safety advise on the original packing or to the safety data sheet. Spilled cleaner should be removed immediately. Danger of poisoning Handle the container with the cleaner liquid with care. Do not place it close to other chemicals - risk of toxic fumes. Danger of damage to the steam generator Place the container for cleaner not higher than the bottom of the steam generator. Use only the suitable cleaner designed for descaling of water boiling equipment, dilute if necessary as specified by the manufacturer. EOS recommends the Steintod P cleaner. The warranty will be void by the use of an unsuitable and unapproved cleaner liquid. The integrated descaling system may be unable to remove all limescale deposits especially by intensive operation and hard water condition. For this reason by hard water an external water softening system must be pre-installed. By commercial operation an external water softening system must be pre-installed in either case. EN 25

7.2 Setup and operation of the cleaning system Steamtec II Basic steam generator features an integrated automatic descaling and draining system. This system will automatically descale the water tank at certain intervals. These intervals depend on the effective working time (heating time of heating elements) and the pre-set water hardness level. They do not depend on the total switched on time which may have certain intervals without actual steam production. After the descaling the water tank will be rinsed and drained. High pressure blast of water directed at the drain will help to split scale flakes into smaller pieces and clear them out of the tank during the draining. The descaling cycle will start if the calculated time interval for cleaning is reached and the steam generator remains idle (no steam production) for 45 minutes. This is interpreted as the end of the steam operation session and the cleaning cycle may start. In the case the steam generator is operated in a manual non-stop mode a forced descaling cycle will be carried out after 24 h of operation. The descaling cycle will be also started if the steam generator has reached the calculated time for cleaning and has been disconnected from power and then connected to power again. In the case if the calculated time for the next descaling has not yet been reached but the generator has been stopped for 45 minutes it will consider that the operation session is over and will drain the water tank. This will take approx. 10 minutes time. If this feature is not desired it may be disabled. To disable or enable this feature: Open the steam generator and disconnect the power supply. Remove the jumper JP2 from A position. Set the jumper JP1 to H and S (use the spare jumper removed from JP2). Switch on the power supply. The Status LED on the main board will flash - two times if the draining function is enabled - three times if the draining function is disabled Disconnect the generator from power Set the jumper JP2 back to A position, set the jumper JP1 to the desired water hardness level (see below), switch the power supply to the steam generator. The setting of the water hardness is made with the jumper JP1 on the main board of the generator. During the active descaling cycle the pilot lamp with be flashing twice. Water hardness setting (jumper JP1) Jumper position Descaling interval Descaler consumption H - hard water 5 hours of heating time ~ 400 ml M - middle hardness 5 hours of heating time ~ 200 ml S - soft water 10 hours of heating time ~ 200 ml I - instant descaling Pic. 11 JP1 jumper for water hardness setting Makes instant forced cleaning with ~ 200 ml cleaner. Make sure to set the jumper back to H, M or S position after the cleaning cycle. 26 EN

8. Power selection Steamtec II Basic steam generator features adjustable power output, which allows to quickly set the required power output directly on site and to adjust it later if required. The power output selection is made by F-fuses (switches) on the main terminal rack of the steam generator. Pic. 9 Power selection switch of the Steamtec II 18 kw model Every switch adjusts the power by 3 kw. An 18 kw model allows therefore 18 / 15 / 12 / 9 / 6 / 3 kw power output. A 9 kw model allows respectively 9 / 6 / 3 kw power output. The power reduction can be made by any switch except F1. The upper switch F1 should always remain on. Notice that F2 and F3 switches have a direct effect on the power in continuous steam mode. The example on the left shows F1- F6 switches of an 18 kw model. The 9 kw version features three switches F1 - F3 respectively. In order to reduce the power push a switch to the RIGHT. Each switch equals to 3 kw power capacity. To increase the power again push the switched off switch to the LEFT into original on position. Factory default setting is the maximum output, all switches are on. Select the power output to match the size and construction of the steam room. We recommend to prove the power requirement in advance. Notice: please pay attention that the heating elements corresponding to fuses F1 in 9 kw and F1, F2, F3 in 18 kw model are used for continuous steam mode (see chapter operation for details). Switching the F2 and/or F3 fuses off will reduce the power output in continuous steam mode. 29 9. Operation modes Steamtec II Basic steam generator features 4 operation modes which allow to adjust the steam production to the individual operation conditions. Operation mode 1 (default) All heating elements, unless they are disabled with the appropriate fuse (F1-F6), will be switched on if there is a control signal on the input terminals Wb and S1. If there is no control signal on the input terminal Wb, the heating elements will be switched off. This mode is default from factory. In this mode the generator is fully controlled by a switching signal from an external control unit. You can return to this mode at any time if the generator has been re-programmed to an other mode. To set the steam generator to mode 1: Switch the steam generator off (disconnect from power completely) Set the jumper JP2 to E position (see pic. 10) Switch the power supply to the steam generator The status LED on the main board shall flash 9 times Switch the steam generator off (disconnect power) Set the jumper JP2 back to A position and switch the power supply on again. Operation mode 2 If there is no input switching signal on the terminal Wb for 4 hours the system considers the steam room / sauna are not in use and are cooled down. If now a switching signal is given to the terminal Wb all enabled heating elements will start to heat until the temperature set-point has been reached. Once the set-point has been reached the steam generator continues to heat with 1-3 heating elements (1 element only by Steamtec II Basic 9 kw). This helps to ensure a more continuous steam production. To set the steam generator to mode 2: Switch the steam generator off (disconnect from power completely) Set the jumper JP2 to B position Switch the power supply to the steam generator The status LED on the main board shall flash 6 times Switch the steam generator off (disconnect power) Set the jumper JP2 back to A position and switch the power supply on again. Operation mode 3 (continuous steam) JP2 jumper for operation mode setting If an external switching signal is given the steam generator it will start to heat with all enabled heating elements until the temperature reaches the set-point. Once the set-point has been reached the steam generator continues to heat with 1-3 heating elements (1 element only by Steamtec II Basic 9 kw). By Steamtec II Basic 18 kw it is possible to reduce the heating power during this phase to 6 or 3 kw by switching off fuses F2 and F3. By Steamtec II Basic 9 kw the basic power is always 3 kw only. The basic power for this continuous steam production shall be selected so that the room temperature should not exceed the upper hysteresis point and the safety limit of 50 C. EN 29

Once the room temperature falls below the low hysteresis point an external switching signal will be normally given to Wb terminal and the steam generator will start heating will all enabled heating elements. For safety reasons if no external switching signal is given for 30 minutes the steam generator with completely stop (continuous steam production phase will stop). To set the steam generator to mode 3: Switch the steam generator off (disconnect from power completely) Set the jumper JP2 to C position Switch the power supply to the steam generator The status LED on the main board shall flash 7 times Switch the steam generator off (disconnect power) Set the jumper JP2 back to A position and switch the power supply on again. Operation mode 4 (continuous steam) This mode is similar to the mode 3 but the steam generator will completely stop (continuous steam phase will stop) if no external switching signal is given for 60 minutes. To set the steam generator to mode 4: Switch the steam generator off (disconnect from power completely) Set the jumper JP2 to D position Switch the power supply to the steam generator The status LED on the main board shall flash 8 times Switch the steam generator off (disconnect power) Set the jumper JP2 back to A position and switch the power supply on again. JP2 jumper for operation mode setting Risk of scalding If the steam generator is set to mode 2, 3 or 4 make sure to prove through sufficient testing upon commissioning that the effective temperature in the steam room during continuous steam phase may not rise over 50 C. If the continuous steam mode causes the room temperature to rise over 50 C it may not be used for safety reasons. 30 EN

10. General operation The Steamtec II Basic steam generator does not have an own on/off switch and remains always connected to power supply. The steam production is switched on or off from an external control unit (switching signal on input terminals Wb, S1 and N). An external control unit does not belong to the delivery scope of the steam generator and shall be purchased separately. The steam generator with a removed housing may be also disconnected from power by switching off the F1 fuse. It will not start heating in such case and will not consume power. However various components and terminals will still remain connected to power and will not be powerless. Steamtec II Basic steam generator will display the operation states and common malfunctions by flashing of the main operation LED (pilot lamp) on the bottom housing of the unit (see page 12). The pilot lamp is off if the generator is off. During active heating the pilot lamp will illuminate continuosly. For troubleshooting of the possible malfunctions please see Troubleshooting. Pilot lamp indication off - steam generator switched off, restart the generator and /or control unit on continuously - steam generator in active heating state flashing once - waiting for descaling cycle flashing twice - descaling cycle in progress flashing 3 times - error, no descaler liquid flashing 4 times - error, water filling fault flashing 5 times - error, malfunction by draining! DANGER Danger to life through electric shock. By incorrect electrical connections there is a risk of electric shock. Also after the installation. All electrical connections in the steam generator and other equipment may be only carried out by an appropriately qualified and licensed electrician. EN 31

11. Maintenance and servicing The steam generator requires regular maintenance depending on the intensity of use. The integrated automatic descaling system increases the service intervals and reduces the maintenance cost, however it does not make the steam generator maintenance-free.! WARNING Risk of damages to persons and to the device. The steam generator has hot surfaces, e.g. pipelines, water tank, which may cause burns. Maintenance may be carried out by an authorized and appropriately skilled personnel. Disconnect the steam generator from power before any maintenance and servicing works. Make sure to observe servicing intervals as given below. Request an assistance from EOS or an authorized EOS dealer by any questions. Recommended servicing intervals By domestic use - at least once per year. By commercial use - at least twice per year or more if necessary depending on the situation, water quality and intensity of use. Scope of works for regular servicing: Check condition of all connection tubes, clean if necessary Check condition of the drain, remove scale deposits and clean if necessary Check the overheating temperature limiter fuse (visual condition and secure fastening) Check the level of the descaler liquid, replenish if necessary Check condition of the tube in the descaling pump, replace if necessary (by wear-out traces) Remove the water level prove, check condition and clean if necessary. Re-installed, check the correct height (page 18). Opening the water tank is normally not necessary. If there is an indication that there are limescale deposits inside the water tank it may be opened for mechanical cleaning. Check condition of the inner surfaces, remove limescale if necessary. By excessive limescale deposits check if the set water hardness level is sufficient and if the pre-installed water softening system is effective. If no water softening system is available it may be required to be installed. Before closing the water tank check condition of the silicone sealing gasket. The gasket needs replacement if worn out or damaged. 32 EN

12. Troubleshooting Steamtec II Basic steam generator will display the operation states and common malfunctions by flashing of the main operation LED (pilot lamp) on the bottom housing of the unit (see page 12). The pilot lamp is off if the generator is off. During active heating the pilot lamp will illuminate continuosly. Pilot lamp indication off - steam generator switched off, restart the generator and /or control unit illuminated continuously - steam generator in active heating state flashing once - waiting for descaling cycle flashing twice - descaling cycle in progress flashing 3 times - error, no descaler liquid flashing 4 times - error, water filling fault flashing 5 times - error, draining fault Troubleshooting guide Fault: Overheating limiter fuse releases repeatedly or the Pilot Lamp flashes 4 times (water filling error). Remedy: Check the correct position of the limiter fuse. Check the water level probe and clean if necessary. If the fuse and the level probe are in proper condition you may need to calibrate the water conductivity measurement. Proceed as follows: 1. Switch off the generator 2. Set the jumpers in the JP1 group to positions H and M (make sure to remember the previous jumper positions, use the jumper from the JP2 group) 3. Connect the power supply to the generator. The water in the tank will be drained and filled again. This may take several minutes. 4. Wait until the Status LED on the board flashes 4 times - now the water conductivity level and the correct water level will be stored. 5. Disconnect the power supply. 6. Remove the jumpers in the JP1 group from H and M positions and set them to the original position. 7. Connect the power supply. The steam generator is now ready for operation. Fault: Draining error (pilot lamp flashes 5 times) Remedy: Check the drain, make sure it is not blocked by scale and other deposits. If the drain is clean and motorized ball valve does not appear to function please contact your EOS dealer for assistance. The ball valve or the actuator may be faulty. Fault: Water filling fault (pilot lamp flashes 4 times) Remedy: Check the water supply line, make sure there is sufficient water pressure. If the water supply if correct and you cannot hear the input valve to open and fill the tank please contact your EOS dealer for assistance. EN 33

Fault: No descaler liquid (pilot lamp flashing 3 times) Remedy: Replenish the descaler liquid container. Make sure to use the suitable type of descaler. Check the level probe for lose connection and verify it is connected properly. General fault: Overheating limiter fuses releases occasionally. Remedy: Increase the water filling level in the water tank by pulling the water level probe up to1-2 cm up. ATTENTION! If the water level in the tank is too high the steam generator may spit hot water through the steam outlet at the beginning of steam generation. Risk of scalding! Fault: Steam outlet spits hot water. Risk of scalding! Remedy: Reduce the water level in the water tank slightly by pushing the level probe down 1-2 cm. ATTENTION! By too low water level there is risk of overheating in the area of the upper heating element and the overheating safety fuse (thermofuse) may release Fault: Steam generator does not produce steam (no heating), pilot lamp illuminates continuously, not error messages. Remedy: Thermofuse may have released due to overheating in the watertank. Reset the thermofuse by pushing the reset button on the bottom panel of the generator (see page 12). Check for possible reasons of overheating. 13. Disposal The electric devices which are no longer required shall be recycled as per EU guideline 2002/96/EG or as per applicable national laws. Do not dispose of with the household garbage. 34 EN
