3 Water Baths SWB1, SWB1D, SWB2, SWB2D, SWB3, SWB3D Introduction Thank you for purchasing this piece of Stuart equipment. To get the best performance from the equipment, and for your own safety, please read these instructions carefully before use. Before discarding the packaging check that all parts are present and correct. These Stuart water baths are designed to operate under the following conditions:- For indoor use only Use in a well ventilated area Ambient temperature range +5 C to +40 C Altitude to 2000m Relative humidity not exceeding 80% Mains supply fluctuation not exceeding 10% Overvoltage category II IEC Pollution degree 2 If the equipment is not used in the manner described in this manual the protection provided by the equipment may be impaired. Electrical Installation THIS INSTRUMENT MUST BE EARTHED Before connection please ensure that the line supply corresponds to that shown on the rating plate. These models require a supply rated at V ac, 50Hz, single phase. All models are supplied with two mains leads fitted with IEC plugs for connection to the instrument. One has a UK 3 pin plug and the other has a 2 pin "Shuko" plug for connection to the mains. Choose the lead appropriate for your electrical installation and discard the other. Should neither be suitable, take the lead with the UK plug and replace the plug with a suitable alternative. This involves cutting off the moulded plug, preparing the cable and connecting to the re-wireable plug in accordance with its instructions. Model SWB1/SWB1D SWB2/SWB2D SWB3/SWB3D Power 750W 1kW 1.5kW CAUTION - Fuse fitted in both live and neutral lines. The wires in the mains cable are coloured as follows: BROWN - LIVE BLUE - NEUTRAL GREEN/YELLOW - EARTH All models are supplied with a mains lead fitted with an IEC plug and IEC socket in the rear of the instrument. This lead should be connected to the instrument BEFORE connection to the mains supply. Should the mains lead need replacement, a cable of 1mm 2 of harmonised code H05W-F connected to an IEC 320 plug should be used. IF IN DOUBT CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN 1

4 Safety Advice Before Use The unit should be carried using both hands with fingers under each side. Never move or carry the unit when filled with water or while the unit is connected to the mains electricity supply. General Description The water bath interior is made from a one piece stainless steel pressing for ease of maintenance and cleaning. An immersion heater is located at the bottom of the tank and a perforated stainless steel platform is provided to support vessels in the bath. On basic models the temperature is set by a rotary knob with analogue scale while on digital models the temperature is set and displayed via the digital LCD. Digital models are fitted with a variable over temperature thermostat to give protection in the event of a fault. Operation Position the apparatus on a firm level surface. Place the perforated platform over the element and fill with water to the desired level. It is advisable to use distilled or deionised water to avoid scale formation. To avoid evaporation and improve temperature control, stainless steel gable covers are available as an optional extras - see Spares and Accessories. Periodically top up with water to maintain the desired level. Controls Figure 1 shows the controls for the water bath. Temperature setting - Basic models Ensure the temperature control knob is fully to the left and switch the mains and heater ON. Turn the control knob to the desired setting on the calibrated scale. Temperature setting - Digital models Switch the mains and heater ON. Depress and hold the "Press to set" switch and turn the "Set" knob until the required temperature is displayed on the LCD. Release the "Press to set" switch. Turn the safety thermostat knob to a setting just above the set temperature. 2

5 Maintenance & Servicing WARNING: Ensure the unit is disconnected from the mains electricity supply before attempting maintenance or servicing. Periodically clean the instrument using a damp cloth and mild detergent solution. Do not use harsh or abrasive cleaning agents. Any repairs or replacement of parts must be undertaken by suitably qualified personnel.
