3 OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS FPU SYSTEMS OPERATION MANUAL (INCLUDING REPAIR PARTS & OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES) FOR BOH MODULAR WORKSHOP CONTAINER (MWC) THEORY OF OPERATION MWC FEATURES MWC TRANSPORT The BOH Modular Workshop Container (MWC) is a highly transportable complete workshop that measures 87 W x 85 H x 44 L enabling it to fit the bed of the M078 truck and allowing the towing of other equipment. The MWC is a fully self-contained modular system that can be configured for use as a Workshop, Bench Stock Storage Room, Receiving & Issue Center, Maintenance Facility, Office and Command & Control Center in theater or garrison. The MWC is provided eight rings, two at each corner for lifting the MWC with a crane or tying down the MWC and four fork pockets, two on each side for forklift transport and movement. MWC ETRANCE DOOR The MWC is provided a single entrance door with a retractable handrail and a detachable stair way. The stairway permits access to the workshop without off-loading the MWC. The stairway is secured over the roof access ladder to the left of the door and secured with a strap. MWC HVAC AND ELETRICAL SERVICE The HVAC heating and air-conditioning unit HVAC, to maintain work area temperature, located top center of the rear wall and is provided with a vinyl weather cover. The MWC is provided with two external compartments for storage of power connection cables on the left side for VDC and the right side for 40 VAC to support both electrical systems. The MWC is provided four ceiling mounted red and white VDC fluorescent lights that are controlled by the red white selector switch at the door. There are banks of three prong electrical outlets for 40 VAC service along the left and right wall above the work bench and desk. To the right of the door there are three switches, one red/white light selector, one door switch activation and one interior light on off switch. The door switch is locater at the top and activates interior lighting when the door is closed. There are workbench florescent lights provided. The MWC circuit breaker panel is located on the interior back wall just below the HVAC unit. MWC INTERIOR COMPONENTS The MWC offers a variety of modular storage aids and operational components that bolt to the floor, Parts Storage Cabinets with full extension drawers, drawer dividers and securing devices, Extractable Shelf Storage Cabinet Modules and Desk with file drawers that lock. The MWC is provided a ventilation fan, to remove off gasses from maintenance operation, facing the door on the interior located to the left of the door. END OF WORK PACKAGE BOH-PM

5 OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS FPU SYSTEMS OPERATION MANUAL (INCLUDING REPAIR PARTS & OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES) FOR BOH MODULAR WORKSHOP CONTAINER (MWC) PREPARATION FOR MOVEMENT OPERATION AND TRANSPORT INITIAL SETUP: FPU Packed out Maintenance Level Operator / Crew / MHE Operator Personnel Required Three (plus one supervisor) PREPARATION FOR MOVEMENT This work package provides step-by-step instructions for the download, set-up and movement of FPU containers. WARNING Ground guides and the HME operators must maintain direct line of sight and ensure that personnel are clear of the containers during this operation. If the forklift operator loses visual contact with either ground guide stop all operations, turn off the forklift and set the emergency brake. Resume only after reestablishing visual contact with both ground guides. Site Requirements WARNING The MWC is intended to remain of the transport vehicle. Always ensure that the transport vehicle is properly secured with brakes engaged and wheel chocks in place to prevent movement of the vehicle during loading and every day operation of the MWC. To maintain control, consider the ground surface conditions for adequate traction, such as mud, snow, ice, sand. MWC Container tare weight,00 lb. MWC Gross Weight of 5,000 lb. BOH-PM

6 Transport vehicle CAUTION Before lifting the MWC ensure the contents of the MWC are retained and secure. The eight corner rings are designed to tie down the NWC utilizing the LMTV tie-down device P/N: NSN: Consult the LMTV TM for tie-down procedure. CAUTION If the tie down rings are used to lift the MWC using a crane, any lifting rig must have a spreader device that spans beyond the roof line to avoid damage to the MWC roof corners from contact of the lifting cables. INCORRECT LIFT WARNING Overhead power lines and obstructions can cause serious injury or damage to property. Forklift operators, truck drivers crane operators and ground guides should always ensure a clear overhead when loading, unloading or accessing the roof of the MWC. BOH-PM

7 Optional Transport Trailer The MWC may be transported by the BOH FPU-TS Trailer. The FPU-TS trailer maximum gross weight is 5,000 lbs. The eight corner rings are designed to tie down the NWC utilizing the LMTV tie-down device P/N: NSN: to secure the MWC to the FPU-TS NOTE For detailed operation of the FPU-TS refer to the trailer manual. 8 Operation of roof access system WARNING Fall hazards exist when climbing onto, returning from always utilize the hand rail on the top of the container. Always maintain three points of contact to the roof access ladder when climbing to the MWC roof. Never move, step, or walk backwards when working on top of the MWC. All movement should be in the forward direction. A fall can occur if the worker loses concentration and steps backwards off of the edge. Stand erect only if necessary and only away from the edge. Working from a kneeling position helps reduce the threat of a fall. Roof Access Ladder NOTE The Stairway does not have to be removed from the ladder to access the roof.. To gain access to the roof ladder undo the black retention strap () on the stairway ().. Grasp the sides of the stairway () and remove it by lifting it up and away.. Place it aside in a safe location away from the loading or unloading operation. 4. Access the roof via the roof ladder () utilizing the hand rail (). 5. Make a four point connection with the four upper lifting rings () and crane sling with spreader bars that span the roof to avoid damage to the roof. 6. Return to the roof ladder () and utilizing the hand rail () and return to the ground. 7. The Ground Guide should direct the crane operation. 8. When utilizing a forklift the ground guide must ensure that personnel are clear if the MWC when positioning the MWC onto the vehicle. 9. Connect the eight Tie-down rings upper and lower tie-down rings of the MWC with the LMTV tie-down device P/N: NSN: as shown see page BOH-PM

9 Stairway and Handrail. Install the stairway (8) by the dowels (5) at the top end of the stairway (8), on the two matching hooks (6) just below the door edge Roof Access Ladder WARNING Ensure there is no personnel in the MWC that may exit and fall when the stairway is repositioned. When accessing the roof via the roof ladder (9) when the MWC is on the transport vehicle, the stairway is positioned on the two stairway hooks (7) just below the ladder () to the left of the door BOH-PM

10 Ensure the bottom of the stairway () is on a flat surface and that the stairway does not rock or tip. Door handrail. To open the door the hand rail must be swung to the full out position 90 degrees from the door.. Pull out the securing pin () completely and swing the handrail () to the full out position 90 degrees from the door.. Secure the hand rail by Inserting the pin () completely into the hole when the handrail is in the full out position. BOH-PM

11 WARNING Failure to secure the handrail () will allow it to swing and cause injury from a possible fall from the stairway. Unsafe Condition The Door Handrail () has not been secured with the pin () and could swing and cause a trip hazord. NOTE The Hand Rail () must be swung to the full out position and pinned to gain access to the door. BOH-PM

12 HVAC Cover The MWC is provided a heating and air-conditioning unit HVAC () that is cradled in a frame () and has a HVAC vinyl dust cover () that is secured with hook and pile fabric (4) and metal snaps (5). The dust cover () must be in place when the MWC and vehicle are traveling or in dust or and sand storm conditions to protect the HVAC. CAUTION During operation the HVAC dust cover () must be removed completely to prevent overheating of the unit Note Store the HVAC Dust Cover () inside the MWC to prevent loss of the cover. BOH-PM

13 Door Entrance The MWC entrance door has a key and piston handle lock that when engaged provides a closed handle position positive lock. The Door Handle Lock System. To disengage the door handle lock piston () insert the key rotate the key clockwise and pull the key and lock set () outward until the lock piston () is disengaged. 5. To open the door, swing the handle () in a 90 degree upward motion to the open position, this disengages the interior door lock blade (4).. Return the handle () to the center position and pull open the door. Locking the Door Note Follow the instruction plate (6) to the right of the door handle ().. To engage the interior lock blade (4) with the door closed, rotate the handle () downward 90 degrees to the engage position.. Return the handle () to the center position.. To engage the door handle lock piston () rotate the key counter clockwise and push the key and lock set () inward until engaged in the plate socket (5). 6 4 Door Interior BOH-PM

14 Interior Door Handle. To engage the door lock blade (), rotate the handle () downward.. To open the door and retract the door lock blade () rotate the door handle () upward. BOH-PM

Pull the two spring loaded release slam latches () toward the center and pull down the door (4).. Extract the connection cable (5). 5 4 BOH-PM

16 WARNING Ensure all circuit breakers and the power source is switched off before making electrical connections. Ensure the electrical proper 40 VAC or VDC cable connectors are installed by a certified electrician Army MOS R. Circuit Breakers The circuit breaker box is on the back wall just below the HVAC unit.. Activate the 40 amp Main breaker first and other breaker switches by pushing them to the center position. 17 INTERIOR ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS The MWC is provided a ventilation fan (), to remove off gasses from maintenance operation. Facing the door on the interior, the fan is located to the left of the door. To the right of the door there are three switches, one red/white light selector (), one door switch activation () and one interior workbench light on off switch (4). The door lighting activation switch (5) is located at the top interior of the door and activates interior lighting when the door is closed. The two workbench florescent lights (6) are located above the workbenches VIEW FROM THE INTERIOR BOH-PM

18 Interior Lighting The six interior VDC ceiling lights () and the two 0 VAC workbench lights () are operated by a bank of three switches at the door () and a door activation switch at the top of the door. NOTE The 0 VAC workbench lighting () is independent of the red/white ceiling lights (). 4 NOTE The 0 VAC workbench lighting () should not be used under red lighting blackout conditions. BOH-PM

19 Interior Light Switches Lighting Selection The VDC ceiling lights () are provided for red and white lighting conditions and are selected by the upper switch (). The door lighting activation switch () will override the white selection and change the lighting to red when the door is opened and return to white when the door is closed. The three way selection switch (4) just below, is used to select door activation or continuous lighting or ceiling lighting off. The switch to the right is a two way switch (5) used to operate the workbench white lights and is independent of the red lighting system NOTE The 0 VAC workbench lighting (6) should not be used under red lighting blackout conditions. 20 Heating and Air-conditioning unit HVAC CAUTION Ensure that the exterior HVAC vinyl cover () has been removed and stored prior to operating the HVAC () failure to do so will cause over heating damage to the unit.. The HVAC () is located in the center of the interior back wall.. Heating and cooling controls () are on the left side of the unit.. Switch the unit on and select the desired setting, heating or cooling. 4. The internal fan of the unit should activate and circulate air. 5. Adjust the directional vent fins (4) at the top of the unit to direct air flow. 4 BOH-PM

21 Ventilation Fan The vent fan () is located to the right when entering the door. The fan () is provided air circulation and to remove and prevent buildup of off-gasses, smoke and fumes from the interior work space. The exterior vent cover () is a fixed cover that directs the fumes down and away from the MWC.. Activate the fan () by depressing the toggle switch (). WARNING Always utilize the vent fan when painting, soldering, and welding or any operation that may emit off gasses, smoke or fumes, that may be flammable, explosive or hazardous. BOH-PM

22 Cabinetry Lower Cabinets Left and Right Side The cabinetry in the MWC is of unitized construction. There is space available for additional cabinets or other accessories on the left side at the rear of the workshop. There is a shelf cabinet () and a drawer cabinet () and a two desk drawer units () on the left side. All units are retained by bolts and Uni-Strut nuts (4) and channels (5) in the floor and wall BOH-PM

23 Shelves and Drawers Shelf Units Cabinet shelves () can be repositioned within the cabinet to accommodate bulk type material of various sizes and can be configured with drawers () within the cabinet. The shelves and drawer as a group are retained by a center restraint bar () with pin and lanyard (4) and each shelf () is retained by two hairpins with lanyards (5) Drawer Units Cabinet drawers () are retained the center restraint bar and by left and right spring loaded slam latches (6). 24 Cabinet Drawers Cabinet Drawers () come in 6 and 4 inch depth sizes with matching drawer segment dividers () to arrange the drawers to storage needs. The drawers () have bearing slides () for ease of operation and spring loaded slam latches (4) to retain the drawers.. Remove the pin and drawer center restraint bar.. Pull the left and right slam latches () toward the center while pulling the drawer () outward.. Arrange the dividers () to storage needs. 4 4 BOH-PM

25 Overhead Cabinets and Shelves The MWC has additional cabinets () and book shelves () above the work space for storage of documents and other material. Book shelves () have a net () to retain material while the MWC is moving. The net () is attached by eleven straps (4) and footman loops (5) and a center net retaining hook (6) BOH-PM

27 OPERATOR INSTRUCTIONS FPU SYSTEMS OPERATION MANUAL (INCLUDING REPAIR PARTS & OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES) FOR BOH MODULAR WORKSHOP CONTAINER (MWC) OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL CONDITIONS INITIAL SETUP: MWC Downloaded and Operating Maintenance Level Operator/Crew Personnel Required Two (plus one supervisor) OPERATION UNDER UNUSUAL CONDITIONS This work package provides instructions for the operation of the MWC exterior parts under unusual conditions. These include adverse weather, nuclear, biological and chemical attack, and emergency blackout conditions. Operation in Rain and/or Mud. Provide an adequate drainage ditch to prevent standing water around the MWC vehicle.. Secure all accessories and container during extremely harsh rain. Operation in Hot Weather. Use gloves when operating door handle, stairway, and MWC tie-down rigging, handrail during extreme hot conditions to prevent burning hands and fingers. WARNING In extreme hot conditions, do not touch metal parts with bare hands. Severe skin damage may result. BOH-PM

Interim Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Decontamination Procedures WARNING The MWC is NOT designed for active operations in contaminated NBC Environments.
