6 Glasswashers with built-in water softener Water Softener Models - SL-19D / SL-20D SL-22D / SL22BD Water is considered to be hard when it contains excess amounts of minerals such as calcium and magnesium. One of the most common problems encountered with hard water is that detergents and soaps don t work very well. You find that you need to use much more than the recommended amount of detergent to achieve the desired amount of lather and it doesn t rinse away very well - leaving residues on the glasses. These hard water problems can be solved by adding a water softener agent such salt to loads. How water softeners work is that the sodium replaces the other minerals, softening the water. Although the minerals contained in hard water are dissolved, they don t stay that way. They adhere to everything the water touches, solidifying into hard, flaky scale.
