2 Northeast Gas Specialists Northeast Gas Specialists High Efficiency Natural Gas Equipment Training Courses 13 Different Modules - 18 Night Course Course #1 Basic Introduction to Natural Gas Safety (3) Night Class April 18 th,19 th, 20 th Night one Introduction course for students on how to handle Natural Gas, this class is designed to demonstrate how to safely handle the fuel and how to use the proper tools required to work on and service natural gas heating appliances. Technicians will learn about the following during this session: Proper Tools Required to Install and Service High Efficiency Natural Gas Heating Appliances. Composition of Natural Gas. Explosive Limits of Natural Gas Proper Purging of Natural Gas before putting equipment into operation Checking for Gas Leaks and Pipe Tightness Pressure Testing System Checking Gas Pressures with a Manometers and properly adjusting regulators Learn how to read both +Positive and - Negative pressures on High Efficiency Equipment Adjusting Manifold Pressures with Manometers Clocking Gas Meters to Ensure Proper Inputs are Obtained Night Two - Gas Pipe Sizing: This class will teach students how to properly size and install natural gas piping systems to meet NYS Code Requirements. Night Three - CSST Tubing Sizing and Installation: This class will teach students how to properly size and install CSST gas piping systems to meet NYS Code Requirements. Students will be certified to work with Wardflex tubing at the end of the session and will receive a certification card for use in the field. Course #2 Ignition Systems & Troubleshooting (2) Night Class April 26 th, 27 th Night one - Theory: Technicians will learn the different types of ignition systems found on natural gas heating systems and how to properly use testing equipment to diagnose problems on line and low voltage controls. Standing Pilot Spark Ignition Hot Surface Ignition Direct Spark Night Two - Hands-on: Students will use different types of testing equipment such as U-Tube Manometers, Multimeters, and Combustion Analyzers to diagnose a wide range of issues seen with natural gas heating equipment. "Live Fired Hands on Class

3 Course #3 Venting (2) Night Class May 3 rd, 4 th Night One - Chimney Liners and Venting: Technicians will learn the importance of a proper venting system. We will go over why chimney liners are required on atmospheric gas boilers. Students will also learn how high efficiency natural gas heating equipment vent requirements dictate the use of PVC and Polypropylene. We will also go over tell-tale signs of improper venting and what you should look for on your next job. Night Two Chimney vent sizing. Students will learn how to properly size vents and chimney liners during this session to meet NYS Code Requirements. Course #4 Make Up Air Requirements and Combustion Analysis Carbon Monoxide Awareness (1) Night Class May 10 th Part I - Breathe Easy: This class will teach students how to calculate and determine if there is enough air to support combustion for natural gas appliances. Students will also learn how to get additional air into a boiler room or basement that requires it. This will include how to properly size louvers. Part II - Hands-on: The second portion of the class will instruct students on how to take combustion readings with a combustion analyzer to ensure that manufacturers' suggested set-up requirements are met. This will also maximize efficiency ratings and meet the proper Co levels set by the manufacturers on High Efficient Heating Equipment. Course #5 Preparing for a Utility Meter Set and Local Town Inspections (1) Night Class May 11 th Part I - This course is designed to prepare your company to successfully get a gas meter set on your 1 st appointment. We will review the National Grid Blue Book and show technician s where to find important information such as Meter Header sketches, proper houseline test pressures, and other useful tips when preparing for your local inspections. Part II - Review how Gas Heating Equipment gets installed meeting NYS Code Requirements. Check-off lists will be provided for Forced Warm Air Systems, Hot Water Systems, Steam Systems, Tankless Water Heaters, and Conversion Burners. Course #6 Working With Gas Pipe Copper and Pex Tubing (1) Night Class May 17 th Students will learn how to work with various types of piping that are used in the industry. We will be working with Pex Tubing, Copper, Black and Galvanized Schedule 80 learning how to correctly Press, Sweat and Thread these various materials meeting manufacturers specifications.

4 Course #7 Steam Heat (1) Night Class May 18 th In this class students will learn the basics of what to look out for when doing Oil to Gas conversion replacements. Students will be taught about removing large mass oil boilers, and installing small atmospheric gas boilers. Basics of sizing the replacement boiler, along with, near boiler piping, safety controls and their settings will be gone over during this course. Technicians will learn how to properly put the new steam system into service as well as the importance of skimming the boiler on completion. Course #8 Conversion Burner Training (2) Night Class May 31 st, June 1 st Night One - Students will learn about the different types of Conversion Burners and how they need to be set up. We will cover the requirements that MUST be met when doing a new installation meeting NYS Code Requirements. Night Two - Students will be using different types of testing equipment such as U-Tube Manometers, Multimeters, and Combustion Analyzers setting up a gas conversion burner on an oil designed boiler. Beckett CG4 Gas Burner used for this Live Fired Hands on Class Course #9 Tankless Water Heating (1) Night Class June 7 th This class will teach a student the differences between an on-demand tankless water heater and a conventional tank-type heater. The contractor will learn how to size and replace existing water heating systems such as a boiler with coil with an on-demand tankless water heater. Students will also learn how to handle large volume applications as well as how to adapt tankless water heaters to applications with erratic and excessive flow. The students will also learn the importance of proper gas pipe sizing and the issues that might occur in and after installation of tankless water heaters. Course #10 High Efficiency Wall Hung Boiler Technology (1) Night Class June 8 th This class will teach technicians the proper application and installation of wall hung high efficient natural gas boilers. We will discuss the difference between conventional boilers and high efficient wall hung technology. Students will learn how to cascade these high efficient units, as well as how to utilize manufacturers' controls to maximize efficiencies from them. Gas pipe sizing, proper venting as well outdoor rest and heat curve set ups will be discussed. Students will be shown how to calibrate the unit utilizing manometers and combustion analyzers.

5 Course #11 High Efficiency Combi Boiler Technology (1) Night Class June 14 th Students will learn the appropriate applications for utilizing a combination boiler/water heater. This class will teach attendees how to size a combi-boiler, especially when using it as a replacement for an oil boiler with a coil for domestic hot water usage. Gas pipe sizing, wiring, and proper venting will be discussed. We will examine the importance and value to outdoor reset and how it can save the homeowner money. Students will be shown how to calibrate the combi utilizing manometers and combustion analyzers. Both wall hung and floor mounted units will be discussed and what advantages one has over the other. Course #12 Gas Heat General Maintenance (1) Night Class June 15 th This class will show a technician the proper maintenance that must be performed on all types of heating systems from Tanked Water Heaters, Atmospheric Boilers, Steam Systems, Forced Warm Air Units, High Efficiency Boilers, and Tankless Water Heaters. We will discuss a typical Preventative Maintenance visit and what it should entail. Technicians will learn what is important to ensure the proper and safe operation of gas heating appliances during this training course. Course #12 Installing Antifreeze Using a Refractometer (1) Night Class June 21 st Part I - This training session will show a technician how to properly install antifreeze into a system using a refractometer. Improper levels of Antifreeze and the wrong types of Antifreeze can cause catastrophic results and void manufacturers warranties on heating equipment. Checking Water Quality Part II - This will teach technicians how to check for proper water quality in a system by checking its PH level. Also discussed is how to properly flush a system when doing a new boiler installation.
