2 Why ventilate a hotel room? Many of today s newly constructed and renovated hotels are designed to meet LEED and other energy efficient building standards. These standards promote environmental sustainability while reducing energy consumption and costs. They also improve guest comfort and satisfaction while projecting a healthy, green image that can translate into a competitive advantage. Energy efficiency standards begin with an airtight building envelop. This is achieved with specially designed windows and doors, sealing caulks and other insulation materials that create an airtight seal. The resulting benefits are fewer drafts, lower cost of heating and cooling and greater comfort and satisfaction for the guest. However, biological and chemical pollutants can accumulate in an airtight building. These pollutants can be hazardous to the guest and jeopardize the structural integrity of the building. Moisture from showers promotes mold and mildew that damage bathroom fixtures and the building s structural integrity is at risk if mold grows inside wall and ceiling cavities. Also, chemicals known as volatile organic compounds (VOC), such as formaldehyde and benzene, are released from building materials, wall paper, carpeting, furniture, cleaners and other guest room items in a process called off-gassing. 3 LEED Certification What does Green certification mean and how can Panasonic help? LEED for Homes, STAR Indoor Air Programs, and other green building programs require compliance with the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Residential Ventilation Standard as a ventilation platform. According to LEED 2009 for Commercial Interiors Rating System: PATH 2 (10 points) Demonstrate that HVAC system components performance criteria used for tenant space are 30% better than a system that is in minimum compliance with ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA Standard Additionally, the project teams wish to use ASHRAE approved addenda for the purpose of this credit may do so at their discretion. Addenda must be applied consistently across all LEED credits. This standard calls for 5 CFM per person plus 0.06 CFM per square foot. It also sets minimum default of 11 CFM. Additionally, ASHRAE 62.1 calls for spot ventilation for the bathroom using 25 CFM continuous or 50 CFM intermittent. 4 Vertical Design and Manufacturing Panasonic engineers have a long history of designing and manufacturing consumer and industrial electrical components and products. The company has been designing and manufacturing fans since 1932 for residential, commercial and industrial applications and is currently the largest designer and manufacturer of air movement equipment in the world. Panasonic now leads the way in the lodging industry with LEED and solutions. Technology The WhisperGreen series incorporates Panasonic s highly advanced DC motor technology. These are the most energy efficient and quietest ventilating fan motors available today. The WhisperCeiling, WhisperFit and WhisperValue series all incorporate Panasonic s AC condenser motor technology. AC condenser motors are the most advanced and energy efficient AC electric motor technology. Panasonic designs and manufactures DC and AC condenser motors which ensure the highest standard of energy efficiency, low noise and durability. Plus, all Panasonic motors are totally encapsulated to ensure internal components, windings and permanently lubricated bearings remain clean for the life of the fan. This clean motor design prevents vibration and noise that may occur over time in lesser quality motors. Panasonic motors remain clean and the fan remains quiet for the life of the product. Blower Wheel Technology All Panasonic blower wheels incorporate an open hub design and dolphin-shaped blades. The AB plastic used to manufacture these parts also helps to reduce air flow noise and will not rust. These advanced technologies provide maximum air flow and efficiency along with minimum noise. Housing Technology Panasonic housings begin with a totally rust proof design concept. The 26 gauge steel is finished with electrostatic powder coat paint for complete rust proof coverage. The detachable duct adaptor is made with 26 gauge galvanized steel and incorporates a built-in back draft damper. The housing includes a flange on all four sides with pre-drilled tear-drop screw holes and two adjustable mounting brackets for easy positioning and installation. Lighting Technology All Panasonic ceiling mounted ventilating fans are available with a light fixture. This light fixture exceeds guidelines with two 18-Watt quick-start (flicker-free) compact fluorescent lamps (equivalent to 120 Watts of incandescent light) and a 4-Watt night-light. The 3500 Kelvin color temperature closely matches other incandescent light fixtures used in the bathroom or guestroom. Plus, the night-light (optional to wire for use) provides additional guest safety and comfort, allowing them to find their way at night.

5 DC Technology Dual function with built-in controls: CFM 7-7/8 in. Single speed: CFM The world s most energy efficient and quietest bathroom ventilating fans incorporate DC motor technology. This advanced motor technology is ideal for LEED certification with 2-speed operation plus built-in speed and delay timer controls. Select fan and fan/light models also incorporate a motion sensor that ensures proper ventilation when the guest enters the room. Exceeding the LEED ventilation standard is easy with Whisper- Green dual-function operation. When the bathroom is in use, these fan and fan/light models operate in boost-up mode for intermittent ventilation to evacuate odor and moisture that can cause damaging mold and mildew. When the bathroom is not in use the fan operates at low speed for continuous indoor air quality operation creating a comfortable environment for the guests and meeting green building standards. The boost-up fan speed is activated by a standard wall switch or with the Smart-Action motion sensor, provided on select models. 7-7/8 in. The adjustable delay timer ensures that odor and moisture are evacuated by holding the boost-up mode for an additional 30 seconds to 60 minutes, set by the delay timer, when the fan is switched to the off position or the motion sensor does not detect occupancy.

6 AC Condenser Technology Single speed: CFM 7-7/8 in. Totally encapsulated AC condenser motor technology ensures that internal windings and bearings remain clean for the life of the fan. Panasonic s clean motor design results in minimal motor vibration, durability and quiet operation. AC Condenser Technology Single speed: CFM 5-5/8 in. This uniquely versatile design of bathroom ventilating fans provides energy efficient and quiet operation using 3-inch or 4-inch ducts. Every fan comes with a 4-inch duct adaptor and an optional use 4-inch to 3-inch reducer for use with a 3-inch duct. The Whisper- Fit series also incorporates a 5-5/8-inch housing depth to fit low profile ceiling cavities. AC Condenser Technology Single speed: CFM 3-3/4 in. Performance and value are the hallmarks of this fan series. They are designed with our lowest profile 3-3/4-inch housing depth and can be installed in a 2 x 4 framed cavity. Fan-only models are UL listed for both ceiling and wall mount installation. The 50 and 80 CFM models use a 3-inch duct, while the 100 CFM models incorporate a 4-inch oval adaptor for optimum airflow and low noise.

These radiation dampers meet the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 90A Standard as well as various other fire codes.
