See for future updates. Product/Feature Energy-Saving Function Where Used Demand defrost Initiates electric defrost heaters only as needed As part of the optional Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost electronic control system on walk-ins Electric expansion valve Reverse cycle defrost LED lighting MBWA-1 digital alarm/light management system Glass Sentry II EC motors on fans Highly efficient valve eliminates need to maintain a high head pressure (head pressure control valve eliminated also) allowing a lower head pressure and condensing temperature. A compressor operating at a lower condensing temperature yields higher capacity with less energy input. A reverse cycle valve reverses the flow of high temperature refrigerant through evaporator coil, heating along its entire length and eliminating frost buildup. Results in up to an 80% decrease in defrost energy usage as well as a major reduction in defrost time. LEDs use less electricity than fluorescent lights with electromagnetic ballasts and introduce less heat into the refrigerated space which reduces the workload on the refrigeration system s compressor. The less the compressor operates, the more energy is saved. LEDs also last up to 50,000 hours. Door open alarm prevents door from being left open. Optional light management system automatically turns off lights after a programmed interval. The Glass Sentry II anti-sweat control module is designed to save energy by turning off glass door and frame heaters when no door heat is necessary. Amount of torque and current required to start ECMs is low, making them more efficient. ECMs run cooler, reducing heat load to refrigerated space which makes the compressor run less. 4" thick walk-in panels Standard 4-inch panel with R-32 rating meets federal EISA requirements for freezers and surpasses R-25 requirements for coolers. 5" and 6" thick walk-in panels Thickness of panels produces a higher R-factor and energy efficiency which surpasses federal EISA requirements. Low energy or energy free standard walk-in entry doors Scroll compressors MRS & DRS series multi-compressor remote refrigeration systems PS series multi-compressor parallel refrigeration systems V-series doors have a PVC thermal break between the door and frame which minimizes heat transfer between the refrigerated space and the outside. Cooler doors don't require anti-sweat heat and freezer doors only require a low wattage heater in the frame. Up to 20% increase in efficiency vs. reciprocating compressors. Scrolls are also 50% more reliable than reciprocating types. Since these systems are remote, the heat produced by multiple condensing units is removed from the kitchen or sales space reducing the air conditioning load and energy bill Parallel units can match refrigeration capacity to actual load for a 20%+ savings over a single compressor unit. 9 WALK-IN SELECTION CEILING AND WALL CLEARANCES Please keep the following points in mind when determining space requirements for your walk-in. When a ceiling mounted refrigeration system is used, the distance between the top of the walkin and the building ceiling should be at least the height of the condensing unit or housing plus an additional two inches (additional five inches for PRS-2 systems) to allow proper air circulation. For easier maintenance and service access, allow two feet from the top of the refrigeration system housing to the building ceiling. A minimum space of two inches must be allowed between the ceiling of the walk-in and the building ceiling to permit installation of the walk-in ceiling. A minimum of two inches should be allowed between walk-in walls and building walls. The extra space compensates for irregularities in building construction and provides an air space which increases the walk-in's operation efficiency. 3 3 All specifications subject to change without notice. 6-17

An airtight seal is assured by the wide surface magnetic gasket around the door. In addition, doors feature field adjustable hinges to compensate for any necessary future door adjustment without removal of the door or its frame. This refrigeration line-up contains eleven 30 H.P. and two 25 H.P. condensing units. It is typical of Master-Bilt s ability to design a system to match any warehouse requirement. 4 1 All specifications subject to change without notice. 6-17

42 FLOORS AND CEILINGS FLOORS Master-Bilt has a tested design for every floor need, in both indoor and outdoor applications. Any existing designs can be modified by our engineering department to meet your most exacting requirements. The standard Master-Bilt floor is NSF-7 listed with a.080 textured aluminum surface. This tough floor is also safer. Its raised textured pattern provides workers with better traction, thereby reducing the potential of slip and fall accidents (even in wet conditions). Master-Bilt also offers interior and exterior ramps for safe and easy transfer of carts from building floor to cooler/freezer floor. Rugged design of these ramps matches or exceeds the load Typical floor with textured aluminum surface. bearing capacity of walk-in floors. A non-skid safety strip is a standard part of every ramp. PROTECTIVE OUTDOOR ROOFS Three roof packages are available for walk-ins: aluminum prefabricated, membrane and sloped (galvalume). The aluminum prefabricated roof is available in widths up to 24 ft. by length desired (some size limitations do apply). This durable option provides a waterproof covering for the ceiling panels and is designed for rapid, accurate field assembly. The membrane roof is designed for the exact walk-in roof surface desired (a maximum of 2400 actual square feet surface area) with no welding of seams required for installation. Some size limitations do apply. The sloped, or galvalume, roof is available for ft. widths by length desired (some size limitations do apply). These roofs are constructed of a minimum 26 gauge galvalume. The package comes with all necessary fasteners, graduate spacer purlins, galvalume decking, end closures, ridge caps and ridge vents for fast assembly. See Section 12 Specifications, part 9O for further details about roof options. Indoor ceilings are either self-support or suspended. 62 E-Series Evaporator Coils M-Series condensing units can be provided with a matching evaporator coil for a complete remote refrigeration system. E-Series evaporator coils are ready to mount in position and are available with air (off cycle) defrost, electric defrost or optional reverse cycle defrost when equipped with the Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost system. Each is also furnished standard with a properly sized expansion valve and room thermostat. Energy efficient EC motors are standard on single phase coils. Electric defrost models feature defrost termination/fan delay controls and drain line heaters. A pre-mounted solenoid at the evaporator is available as an option. Evaporator coil with the optional Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost System installed. BUILT WITH THE INSTALLER IN MIND Master-Bilt systems are designed for simple, efficient installation. Tubing connections and electrical wiring, for example, can be easily traced through the circuitry. Following these clear pathways, an installer can have a system operational very quickly, saving the customer time and money. Master-Bilt systems are also designed to be easily serviced should the need arise. Each component is chosen based on its ability to interchange and its availability for installers and service technicians. Individual components are conveniently located on the condensing unit base for easy access. Electrical wiring in Master-Bilt condensing units is easily traceable for the installer.

63 Master Controller Option The Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost (MCRCD) system is an electronic controller for Master-Bilt walk-in cooler and freezer refrigeration systems. It is designed to increase food safety while reducing energy and installation costs. Save 2-4% more energy with the fan cycle option which saves electricity by cycling the evaporator fans during the compressor s off cycle. INSTALLATION SAVINGS No wiring is required between evaporator coils and condensing units (two pairs of low voltage wires, typically thermostat cables, are required to operate the Reverse Cycle Defrost valve and the compressor relay at the condensing unit) In some cases, the savings on wiring installation alone covers the cost of the MCRCD. CONNECTIVITY The Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost interface is mounted to an evaporator coil. FOOD SAFETY The reverse cycle defrost function helps prevent food spoilage because it completely and rapidly removes ice build-up in evaporator coils. Ice build-up causes coils to lose the ability to transfer heat properly. Walk-in temperatures then rise, resulting in spoilage. Should there be an issue with the refrigeration system, operators will know instantly through error codes and data provided through online Web2Walk-In software. Web2Walk-In software loaded on each controller allows remote monitoring and programming using any device with a wireless internet or cabled (cat 5) connection. No need for a service tech to climb onto a roof or enter the walk-in to monitor or adjust the refrigeration system. Constant access to data allows users to improve refrigeration system performance and avoid service issues. ENERGY SAVINGS Patented design saves up to 27% more energy than an all-mechanical system Reverse cycle technology reduces defrost energy usage by up to 80% over traditional electric heaters. Demand Defrost technology initiates reverse cycle defrosts only as needed, allowing further energy savings. Master-Bilt 's Web2Walk-In software gives users constant access to refrigeration system performance data. Web2Walk-In can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, including PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet.

78 MASTER CONTROLLER REVERSE CYCLE DEFROST SYSTEM

79 COLD CONTROLLED Interested in a system that prevents product loss and saves significantly on your energy bill? Maintaining proper, consistent temperature in a walk-in is vital for protecting perishable items. However, when evaporator coils are blocked due to ice build-up, they lose the ability to transfer heat properly. Temperatures in a refrigerated space can then rise, resulting in spoilage. The Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost (MCRCD) system is an electronic controller for Master-Bilt walk-in cooler and freezer refrigeration systems. It completely removes frost build-up in coils and works much faster than electric defrost heaters. Its patented design also saves up to 27% more energy than an all-mechanical system. MCRCD is part of a Master-Bilt refrigeration system that also includes a remote condensing unit and one or more evaporator coils. A reverse cycle valve is mounted to a condensing unit as well. Other components are listed on page 6. The MCRCD system is highly efficient since it regulates an electric expansion valve in response to evaporator superheat and return air temperature. MCRCD systems use a floating head control which greatly reduces energy usage in cold ambient areas. Standard Demand Defrost technology initiates reverse cycle defrosts only as needed, allowing further energy savings. In addition to energy savings, the MCRCD system is designed to reduce installation labor and material costs: All electrical components are factory pre-wired and tested No line voltage is required between evaporator coils and condensing units (two pairs of low voltage wires, typically thermostat cables, are required to operate the Reverse Cycle Defrost valve and the compressor relay at the condensing unit) The walk-in doesn t have to be at operating temperature to confirm or set superheat (pre-programmed) No need to install a thermostat and solenoid or set a defrost schedule In some cases, the savings on wiring installation alone covers the cost of the MCRCD. WEB2WALK-IN: COMPLETE CONTROL AT YOUR FINGERTIPS... FROM ANYWHERE. Because each Master Controller is accessible through any web browser, you have complete 24/7 control from anywhere on the globe. The Web2Walk-In software loaded on each controller allows you to remotely monitor and program all data and setpoints using any device with a wireless internet or cabled (cat 5) connection*. With Web2Walk-In, there s no need for a service tech to climb onto a roof or enter the walk-in to monitor or adjust the refrigeration system. Plus, constant access to data allows users to improve refrigeration system performance and avoid service issues. *Internet connection not required for controller operation. 2

80 DEMAND DEFROST Eliminate unnecessary defrosts and wasted electricity. Eliminate unnecessary defrosts with Master-Bilt s revolutionary Demand Defrost technology featured in the MCRCD system. Demand defrost offers a more efficient alternative to mechanical defrost timers. With most mechanically-based low temp refrigeration systems, electric heaters installed on evaporator coils are used to melt accumulated frost. The heaters are pre-set to engage at certain times of the day regardless of the amount of frost build-up on the coil. Frost accumulation, however, is not always consistent. It is influenced by changeable conditions like ambient temperature, humidity and product load. If a defrost is initiated before a significant amount of frost accumulates, energy is wasted. Conversely, demand defrost constantly checks for the buildup of ice on an evaporator coil to determine if defrosting is required. If a defrost is needed, the standard Reverse Cycle Defrost method is initiated. For more on Reverse Cycle Defrost, see page 4. Our extensive laboratory tests indicate Demand Defrost eliminates many unnecessary defrosts and reduces energy consumption. Web2Walk-In gives users constant access to refrigeration system performance data. This software can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, including PC, Mac, smartphone, or tablet. 3

82 ENERGY SAVINGS POTENTIAL Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost provides up to 27% energy savings over an all-mechanical refrigeration system. Reverse cycle defrost can help gain LEED points since it meets the U.S. Green Building Council s LEED prescriptive of no electric defrosting as outlined in LEED 2009 for Retail: New Construction and Major Renovations. (Online at SAVE EVEN MORE ENERGY WITH FAN CYCLING OPTION Save 2-4% more energy by choosing the fan cycle option for the Master Controller. This option saves electricity by cycling the evaporator fans during the compressor s off cycle. When the compressor is off, fan energy consumption is up to 60% less than if the fans were constantly running. In addition to the actual energy savings, cycling fan motors 5 expel 60% less heat into the walk-in which lowers the compressor s run time. A proprietary fan control algorithm protects stored products by keeping fans running sufficiently to maintain the desired temperature in the walk-in. Overall system energy savings vary depending on factors such as the size of the system, design temperature and run time, location of the walk-in and type of defrost used.

86 SUPER CONTROLLER Electronic Refrigeration Controller System From Master-Bilt s Super Controller system is an energy efficient electronic controller option for TEM/TEL model endless glass door merchandisers with remote refrigeration systems as well as for walk-in coolers and freezers. As an economical complement to Master-Bilt s Master Controller system, the Super Controller is ideal for applications requiring added efficiency but not the Master Controller s full feature set. The Super Controller gives operators significant advantages: The Super Controller s ability to float the head pressure of condensing units result in impressive energy savings. Simply stated, floating the pressure allows a condensing unit to use cold ambient air to reduce compressor energy usage. The Super Controller s electric expansion valve, installed in an evaporator coil, is more accurate than mechanical valves and responds to evaporator superheat for precisely regulated refrigerant flow. Efficient flow ensures optimum system performance and lower energy use. Because the superheat is factory pre-set, the installer doesn t have to return after the cabinet is down to temperature and set it, allowing significant savings on installation costs.

98 OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES For more details on options and accessories, see Section 12, part 9 MASTER CONTROLLER REVERSE CYCLE DEFROST SYSTEM (See Section 12, part 12E for specifications) COLD CONTROLLED The Master Controller Reverse Cycle Defrost (MCRCD) system is an electronic controller for Master-Bilt walk-in cooler and freezer refrigeration systems. Its patented design saves up to 27% more energy than an all-mechanical system. The MCRCD system is highly efficient since it regulates an electric expansion valve in response to evaporator superheat and return air temperature. Additionally, integrated Reverse Cycle Defrost (see p. The MCRCD system interface is mounted to an evaporator coil. 9.12) completely removes frost build-up in coils and works much faster than electric defrost heaters. Standard Demand Defrost technology initiates reverse cycle defrosts only as needed, allowing further energy savings. In addition to energy savings, the MCRCD system is designed to reduce installation labor and material costs: All electrical components are factory pre-wired and tested No line voltage is required between evaporator coils and condensing units (two pairs of low voltage wires, typically thermostat cables, are required to operate the Reverse Cycle Defrost valve and the compressor relay at the condensing unit) The walk-in doesn t have to be at operating temperature to confirm or set superheat (preprogrammed) No need to install a thermostat and solenoid or set a defrost schedule 9 11 In some cases, the savings on wiring installation alone covers the cost of the MCRCD. DEMAND DEFROST Demand defrost is a more efficient alternative to mechanical defrost timers. With most mechanicallybased low temp refrigeration systems, electric heaters installed on evaporator coils are used to melt accumulated frost. The heaters are pre-set to engage at certain times of the day regardless of the amount of frost build-up on the coil. Conversely, demand defrost constantly checks for the buildup of ice on an evaporator coil to determine if defrosting is required. If a defrost is needed, the standard Reverse Cycle Defrost method is initiated. WEB2WALK-IN Because each Master Controller is accessible through any web browser, you have complete 24/7 control from anywhere on the globe. *Internet connection is not required for controller operation. Web2Walk-In gives users constant access to refrigeration system performance data. This software can be accessed from any device with an internet connection, including PC, Mac, smartphone or tablet. 100 OPTIONS AND ACCESSORIES For more details on options and accessories, see Section 12, part 9 REVERSE CYCLE DEFROST Increase defrost efficiency with Master-Bilt s built-in patented* Reverse Cycle Defrost method. When the Master Controller s Demand Defrost determines a defrost is necessary, a reverse cycle valve installed on the refrigeration system s condensing unit is activated and high temperature refrigerant flow is reversed. The refrigerant flows back through the evaporator coil heating it along its entire length, completely eliminating frost build-up. In comparison, only a certain amount of the coil is heated by electric defrost heaters, leaving ice deposits which weaken the evaporator s performance. Reverse cycle technology offers several significant advantages. First of all, the process uses less energy than electric defrost heaters. Reverse cycle reduces defrost energy usage by up to 80%. This savings plus that gained from the demand defrost feature and elimination of head pressure control valves dramat-ically reduces electrical bills. Reverse cycle eliminates not only the need for defrost heaters and head pressure control valves, but also check valves and expansion valves at the condenser. With reverse cycle, liquid receivers are also unneeded on most condensing units. Removing these components decreases the cost of the evaporator itself and saves on installation and wiring. Defrost time is also greatly shortened. The average defrost time for a freezer with electric heaters is 20 to 30 minutes. Reverse cycle can perform a completely clean defrost in as little as 3 to 5 minutes in a freezer or 1 1 /2 to 2 minutes in a cooler. Because the defrost is so rapid, there s no noticeable increase in freezer temperature and product temperature rise is also significantly less. *U.S. patent no. 7,073, All specifications subject to change without notice. 6-17
