3 CASE STUDY 1: Storm-water Control with (Flash Floods) Problems in Concrete Jungle Increased urbanization will have direct impact on the local hydrological cycle. Urban rooftops generally constitute 40-50% of all urban impervious surface area. With impervious surfaces, an increase in surface runoff, reduce infiltration and reduced evapotranspiration is expected (Berndtsson 2010). With higher storm water volume and flow rate, there will be increased frequency of flooding, and soil erosions. Urban storm-water also can have higher levels of suspended solids, bacteria, heavy metals, oil and grease (Dhalla and Zimmer 2010). 4 CASE STUDY 2: Heat Mediation with (Urban Heat Island Mediation) Problems In Urban Cities Increased Urbanization will create a problem of URBAN HEAT ISLAND EFFECT. 5 CASE STUDY 3: Solar Panel Integration PROBLEMS IN CITIES Solar panels have a low efficiency when the weather contributes to a high roof surface temperature. The Gaiamat green roof offers different shading conditions to lower surface temperatures. It also offers the option to plant a variety of species that can be used on the roof, increasing biodiversity.
