Green Roofs are an effective replacement for open space. GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC Nature can partially be replaced on top of the buildings

Modern green roof technology is an engineered setup of different high performance layers that mimic nature s soil profile to allow much thinner and lighter profiles. Against any other statements you may find on the English spoken market, modern green roof technology has nothing in common with ancient projects and their setups. The technology was developed in the 70 s in Germany and is engineered to function in each climate zone on the world. The technology can be applied on all impervious areas not only on roofs. 19 It is widely known that multibillion companies are massively investing in solar energy. Especially Internet companies (Google, Yahoo, 1and1, etc.) have huge demands for energy to feed their decentralized server systems (clouds). Experts estimated that in ten years from now this modern telecommunication (internet, clouds, videos, etc.) require worldwide 1963 Billion kwh. This is three times more than the current entire power consumption of France, Germany, Brazil and Canada together (Greenpeace). With this numbers in mind it is understandable that these companies like to reduce their energy costs in the long run with alternative energies. GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC However alternative energy doesn t mean it is green. Especially ground mounted solar farms (the preferred solution of these companies) consume a tremendous amount of land and produce substantial amounts of run-off. Typically the development starts with clear-cuts of forests, elimination of native environments or transforming farm land. After the development is done sometimes vegetation is brought back. Typically low growing grasses that require regular maintenance with sheep, weed covers, mulch, gas powered mowers and chemicals

Solar Energy (PV) Roof mounted Ground mounted GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC

Ground Mounted PV Systems vs. Roof Mounted PV Systems GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC Extra costs for property Cost for removing existing vegetation High costs for maintenance of vegetation (growth inhibitors) Fence and security system required Potential lost of natural habitat Natural cooling Large arrays possible Less affected by wind Combination with covered parking Property is paid and exists Roofs are empty Low maintenace cost Secure against vandalism No protection of the roofing membrane Cooling elemets might be necessary Penetration of roofing No roofing material remains unprotected and exposed

Roof Mounted PV Systems GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC Mounted into Roof Structure Mounted on Roof (Ballast) Integrated into Green Roof

Roof Mounted PV Systems GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC Mounted into Roof Structure Mounted on Roof (Ballast) Integrated into Green Roof High costs Potential roof leaks Inflexible Might require cooling with cooling elements or water No protection of the roofing membrane Costs Additional weight Might require cooling with cooling elements or water No protection of the roofing membrane Low costs No penetration Natural cooling Highest protection for the roofing membrane

Roof Mounted PV Systems GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC On Green Roofs Installed on Green Roof Partially Integrated Fully integrated into Green Roof

Combining Benefits : Green Roof and Solar Panel Combination GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC

Combining green roofs and solar panels solves two main issues with solar panels: Urban Island Effect Storm Water Issues

Solar panel attachement for ease of install GREEN ROOF SERVICE LLC Rigid root design increases wind load capacity 30 angle for maximum power yield Gravel strip for ballast & vegetation free area SUN-ROOT TM Deeper pockets for greater water retention Made from 100% Recycled Material
