After receiving two BS degrees from Oklahoma State University in Landscape Architecture and Marketing, he owned and operated a design/building firm for over ten years before joining the Extension family and acquiring his Master s Degree in Agricultural Education. He first served as a CEA in Wichita County and, after four years, continued his service to the community as a CEA in Tarrant County, where he still continues to make a significant impact. His experience and expertise have helped to make the Tarrant County Home Horticulture programs recognized as one of the tops in the state. 2:00 3:30 - English Garden Texas Style - Randy Weston, Weston Gardens in Bloom Inc., Fort Worth Randy Weston is the owner of Weston Gardens in Bloom Inc. His emphasis is on helping gardeners to create beautiful and inspiring personal gardens using native and adapted plants. His design specialties include use of perennials for color, naturalistic (English Style) borders, low water plantings and a year round interest in gardening. Randy is a wonderful teacher; and his work has been featured in many newspapers and magazines (Southern Living, Texas Gardener, and Texas Highways). Spending so much time living, working and forecasting in Texas has given Bryan unique and well qualified experience to understand the micro-climates of Texas from the Caprock and Llano Estacado to the deep south coastal plains. Each have separate features that can affect the weather all over the state. Bryan enjoys living in Texoma from hiking in the Wichita Mountains and travelling west to do the same in the Caprock Canyon and Palo Duro Canyon. He also spends a lot of time in the spring and summer chasing severe storms and tornadoes around the area. 2:30 3:45 Mark Klym: Pollinators: Myths & Mysteries Mark is coordinator of the Texas Hummingbird Roundup, Texas Milkweed and Monarchs, Texas Whooper Watch, and Texas Wildscapes programs at Texas Parks and Wildlife. He grew up in Canada and developed a love for the outdoors. He received his BS degree in Biological Science and Fisheries and Wildlife Management from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste Marie, MI, then followed the humming birds to Texas when in 1999 he began work with Texas Parks and Wildlife. He is a coauthor of Hummingbirds of Texas, Texas A&M Press, editor of the Eye on Nature and Texas Hummer Newsletters and author or editor of several booklets and publications from TPWD.

We are holding a training for Master Gardeners in late winter/early spring on Water Efficient Landscape Design to help Master Gardeners with designing water efficient landscape for County Projects. The description is below and we would love to have this showcased on the Texas Master Gardener Website and shared with the county agents throughout the state if possible. Thank you in advance for your help in getting the word out on this. Master Gardener - Water Efficient Landscape Design Do you have a demonstration garden or school garden project that needs help to be water efficient? The Water Efficient Landscape Design Program for Master Gardeners provides you the skills to be your own landscape designer. You bring the project and we provide the guidance. You will learn basic landscape design techniques, native/adaptive plant selection, rainwater harvesting and efficient irrigation to help your project become the envy of water efficient landscapes. This is a three day program with Wednesday and Thursday evening optional design workshops. This workshop is only open to current Master Gardener volunteers. One registration is good for two club members to attend with design materials to share. Additional design materials available for purchase. Registration: Only 20 Master Gardener participant spots are available for this training (10 groups). Registration is first come/first served basis. 5 Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist March 10-12, 2016 Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Tarrant County, Fort Worth, Texas & Dallas County, Dallas, Texas Specialist Program Purpose: To provide advanced training whereby Master Gardeners can obtain specialization in areas that support or expand designed programs of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist: In an effort to provide training, the Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist Program was created as a hands-on, intensive multiday training that will empower you with knowledge and skills required to effectively support and multiply Texas A&M AgriLife Extension efforts in educational programs. Master Gardeners who fulfill specified training and volunteer requirements will be recognized as a Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist. This certification does not empower the individual with supervisory or administrative authority within his/her local county programs. Participation Requirements: To be eligible for the Vegetable Specialist training, an individual must possess an up-to-date Master Gardener certification or be an employee of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Your application must be approved by Your local County Extension Agent. Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist: The Vegetable Specialist program is designed to train and certify Master Gardeners to become part of a state corps of volunteer experts and educators. To become a certified Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist, you are required to attend the Vegetable Specialist training to fulfill training requirements and subsequently meet service requirements described below. Training activities during the course will empower you to complete these service requirements. Time Commitment: You are required to serve a minimum of one year as a Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist providing a minimum of 20 hours of service. Training and Service Requirements: Attend the Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist training Serve as a local Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist resource Assist with Vegetable Specialist training for Master Gardeners and trainees Conduct community/youth vegetable education programs Increase clientele knowledge about Vegetable Specialist through: presentation, workshops and mass media efforts ( i.e. radio, newspaper, television, newsletters) Specialist Recognition and Certification: Upon completion of the Master Gardener Vegetable Specialist service requirements, the you will be formally recognized at the annual Texas Master Gardener Conference, at which time you will be awarded a Master Gardener Specialist Certificate and lapel pin.
