It s a narrative about a man named Mr. McGreely who tries to keep bunnies out of his garden. 2. Define topic: You can find many living things in a garden. Living things grow and change. 3. Read the back of picture card 1. Place it on the table to start the garden plants column. 4. Read the back of picture card 2. Place it on the table to start the garden animals column. Explain the Purpose 5. Set the purpose: Now we are going to look at more cards that show living things you could find in a garden. We are going to put the cards in two categories, or groups. Under the picture of the lettuce, we will line up all the cards that show garden plants. Under the picture of the rabbit, we will line up all the cards that show garden animals. Interactive Activity & Rich Discussion 6. Show the remaining picture cards one by one. With each card: Have students identify the category Ask the questions on the back of the card to encourage discussion. Repeat, rephrase, or expand on students responses. Give the cards to the students to line up in the garden plants or garden animals column. Closing Review: All of the pictures on this side show garden pl (plants). All the pictures on this side show garden an (animals). 8. Conclude with Scout puppet: Let s explain to Scout our two categories. What can you tell him about these living things? How are they the same? How are they different? Allow students to explain. Repeat, rephrase, or expand on students responses.
