Each month our informative and useful newsletter focuses on new plant varieties, upcoming events plus industry trends and news. Feel free to pass along. New words and new phases are popping up all over LEED, sustainability, water efficiency, landscape allocation, evapotranspiration, crop coefficient, system efficiency, 'California Friendly', low impact development. All these words are saying the same thing It is time to RETHINK water conservation and energy conservation when we buy, sell, and use plants in the landscape. Whether you are a landscape architect, designer, contractor or homeowner, we are all responsible for conserving water. Recently a tremendous amount of water conserving plant material has been introduced and now readily available. What we need now is a new approach. We need to RETHINK design styles, plant palettes and irrigation methods with water conservation in mind for home owners as well as for commercial projects. Colorful and original landscapes can be created using water frugal plants giving homeowners and commercial projects welcomed savings without sacrificing beauty. RETHINK plantings like thirsty ground covers and lawns. Try very attractive low growing succulents or other California natives. Plus 'California friendly'

So let's RETHINK how to use more low water requiring plants to create lovely surroundings and make a positive impact on our environment. "We feel proper education, knowledge and training is critical in order for a landscape to have any chance at being more sustainable. The beauty of this type of landscape is that if well managed, the necessary maintenance continues to decline as it matures, approaching a more sustainable state."
