3 Welcome and introduction Welcome to the sixth, albeit belated, edition of Kaba Connect. With Christmas and the New Year behind us, the majority of the Kaba Australia team is now back on board with the extra vigour that comes from a well-deserved break. Although the break has delayed the publication of Kaba Connect, you will find that we still have plenty of news to share. Firstly we take a look at the new Narrabri Aquatic Centre and the Kaba entrance control system that was installed, along with the Victorian Racing Club project, which we completed in time for the Melbourne Cup last year. We are also taking a closer look at our Rapelle range of products and how they apply to our industry. In product news we have a range of new products to share with you, including our new 600mm pull handles and wireless E-Plex products. Home to approximately 7,500 residents, Narrabri is an agriculturally rich area with cotton, wheat, beef and lamb all coming out of the Narrabri Shire. Narrabri Memorial Swimming Pool had been servicing the area for over half a century and was in need of an upgrade. The result is a $6.4M aquatic centre featuring a 25m indoor pool, a 50m 8 lane outdoor pool, a new grandstand, children s splash-out area, kiosk, multi-purpose room, and new change rooms. To manage the people flow into the new Narrabri Aquatic Centre, the projects builder, Hines Constructions chose to use 2 Kaba Entrance Control System products, a Kerberos Tripod Barrier with drop arm function and intergrated bar code scanner, and a HSD Swing Gate to enable disabled access to the facility. A Kaba technician travelled to Narrabri in November to install their new entrance control system and the new Narrabri Aquatic Centre is due to open around the end of this month. racecourse, Flemington. Home to the famous Melbourne Cup, Flemington has been an iconic part of Melbourne s landscape since 1840.

Home to the famous Melbourne Cup, Flemington has been an iconic part of Melbourne s landscape since The Melbourne Cup, part of Victoria s Spring Racing Carnival, along with Derby Day and Oaks Day, attract crowds of 120,000 to each event. Demand for the 3 events is higher than this but the VRC introduced a cap on ticketing in 2007 to avoid overcrowding. In fact, the Melbourne Cup holds such importance in Victoria that the event, which is held on the first Tuesday in November, has been a public holiday in that state since the mid-1870s. During the lead up to this year s Spring Racing Carnival, the Victorian Racing Club took the opportunity to update their physical access systems with Kaba Australia. Kaba Australia has a long standing relationship with the VRC and already had a thorough understanding of the venue and the club s needs. Kaba s scanners and VAST system are also compatible with ticketing agencies, allowing automatic entry to the venue. Kaba Australia installed and commissioned 7 new tripod barriers and 2 service access points to the stadium with a mix of single and dual heads, with each unit also being fitted with scanner housings featuring 2 dimensional barcode scanning and full graphic displays. As well as providing the new entry systems, Kaba Australia also retro-fitted the racecourse s existing tripod barriers with new scanner housings, also featuring 2 dimensional barcode scanning and full graphic display, to match the other entry points. This case fixed turn escape lever features a single lever operation to unlock a door and meets the requirements of egress for exit doors. It also meets AS Design for Access and Mobility when fitted to a standard aluminium extrusion of 45mm thick. The SB312 comes with a surface fixed escutcheon (FA950), which provides stability by clamping onto the cylinder and face fixing to the door, while our patented mechanism provides travel restriction to prevent lock damage. 11 Kaba Australia releases new range of stainless steel round rose lever furniture Kaba Australia releases new range of 600mm stainless steel pull handles Kaba Australia is proud to announce the introduction of the 280 Series of round rose furniture. The 280 Series is a premium quality range of door furniture constructed of a solid brass mounting plate and 316 grade stainless steel dress ring and lever. The range has been designed for commercial applications and is suited for use in coastal areas or other harsh climate conditions. The range currently consists of 3 lever designs, all of which meet the requirements of AS1428 Design for Access and Mobility. The levers have been designed for use with Kaba Australia mortice locks and latches but are also compatible with similar locks and tubular latches. 15 Have you met... Jason Montgomery NSW sales representative We have many teams at Kaba Australia, all working to provide our customers with superior products and services. Our most visible team would, of course, be our national sales team so we thought it was time to interview one of our sales representatives. We sat down with Jason Montgomery, one of our NSW sales representatives to learn a little more about his day to day activities and what he likes to do when not at Kaba. this is what he had to say: Q. How long have you been with Kaba? A.Just over 4 years. Q. What did you do before coming to Kaba and has it helped in your current job? A. I am a carpenter by trade and was working on building sites and had a little bit of knowledge of door hardware. I also have a good knowledge of the building industry, which I find useful. Q. What is the best thing about working at the Kaba head office and what is the biggest challenge? A. The best thing is the people I get to work with on a daily basis. The only challenge is fighting for more jobs. Q. Describe a typical day. A. I can be doing anything from seeing architects, builders, distributors and locksmiths, to building displays and the like for trade shows. Q. Your dad, Jim Montgomery also works for Kaba Australia. What is it like sharing a work environment with your father? A. Pretty good as he has extensive knowledge of the industry and Kaba products. Better still, he is only ever a phone call away if I need help. Q. Tell us a little about yourself. What do you like to do when not at Kaba? A. I just came off my friend s 50 foot Riviera boat which I had been on for a week. Other than relaxing on a friend s boat, you can find me renovating my inner city terrace at present. Q. Anything else you would like to share with us? A. Go the Rabbitohs in 2013! Page 13
