2 Recall & Notification Index Motor vehicle recalls and notifications increased 11% in to 114 tied for the second highest quarter in RAPEX history. Machinery recalls and notifications declined to AUTO RECALLS & NOTIFICATIONS BY TYPE Motor Vehicle 60 Machinery 30 PASSENGER VEHICLES IN THE FRONT SEAT 67 motor vehicle recalls and notifications, or 58.8%, were in the passenger vehicles category. China was the top country of origin for 258 recalls and notifications, or 72.9%. No other country exceeded Spain and Cyprus were tied as the top notifying countries, with 49 recalls and notifications each, combining for 27.7%. Chemical and choking risks were the top hazards, accounting for 49.2% of recalls and notifications. Chemical hazards have been a leading category for the past seven quarters. Including feed and food contact materials, this is the fourth highest total since RASFF was created, and, at 866, the third highest for food alone RASFF RECALLS & NOTIFICATIONS BY TYPE Food Feed Food Contact Material A BEEF WITH BRAZILIAN POULTRY Brazil was the top Food country of origin for the second quarter in a row, accounting for 85 recalls and notifications, or 9.8%. 75 of the recalls were poultry. 1. Bacterial contamination was the top cause of food recalls once again, accounting for 226 recalls, or 26.1%. The second highest cause was chemicals at 185, or 21.4%. 2. The top four Food product categories were the same four as last quarter, in the same order. They were led by poultry meat and poultry products with 137 recalls and notifications, or 15.8%. 3. The top Food notifying countries were Italy, the Netherlands and Germany, accounting for 43.3% of recalls and notifications.
