12 COUNTRY CLOTHING TYPE LEGISLATION TEST METHOD Nightwear The Nightwear (Safety) Regulations 1985 GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND NIGHTWEAR ORIENTATION OF TEST SPECIMEN FLAME CONTACT TIME BS 5722: vertical See Test method TRIP THREAD AT See Test method REQUIREMENT Nightdresses Chest measurement: 91 cms (approx 36") Length: 122 cms (approx 48") must satisfy the flammability performance requirements specified in Clauses and of BS Great Britain & Northern Ireland Children s Nightwear garments for children over 3 months and under 13 years of age Adults nightwear Dressing Gowns, Bath Robes and other similar garments Pyjamas and cotton terry towelling bath robes and babies garments Incl. bath robes, negligees,snuggle wraps Chest measurement: 97 cms (approx 38") Sleeve measurement: 69 cms (approx 27") must satisfy the flammability performance requirements specified in Clauses and of BS Possible labelling: If they comply LOW FLAMMABILITY TO BS 5722 (black) or LOW FLAMMABILITY TO BS 5722 (black) and KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE (red) or if they do not comply KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE (red) do not have to comply with the flammability standard. However, they must carry a permanent label showing whether or not they meet the flammability standard. Possible labelling: If they comply LOW FLAMMABILITY TO BS 5722 (black) or LOW FLAMMABILITY TO BS 5722 (black) and KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE (red) or if they do not comply KEEP AWAY FROM FIRE (red) must carry a permanent label showing whether or not they meet the flammability standard. 13 GREAT BRITAIN AND NOTHERN IRELAND FURNITURE COUNTRY INTERIOR TYPE LEGISLATION REQUIREMENTS Great Britain & Northern Ireland Furniture The Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations Regulations cover the following items which contain upholstery: beds, headboards, mattresses, sofa-beds, nursery furniture, garden furniture which can be used indoors, furniture in new caravans, scatter cushions, seat pads and pillows and loose and stretch covers for furniture.. The Regulations do not apply to sleeping bags, bed-clothes (including duvets), loose covers for mattresses, pillowcases, curtains and carpets. They may come under the General Product Safety Regulations.. The Regulations provides Flammability requirements for Upholstery, Filling materials, Loose fillings, Permanent covers and Covers other than permanent covers. All wording must be upper case. The word CAUTION must be bold. The triangle must be not less than 10mm in height and 20mm in length. 3 Predominantly knitted all in one garments in sizes 00-2 which comply with category 3 4 Garments with higher flammability risks which do not comply with categories 1 to 3, but which comply with category 4 requirements Black wording on a red background (pantone TCX Fiery Red). All wording must be upper case. The word WARNING must be bold. The triangle must be not less than 10mm in height and 20 mm in length. 16
