Ross, Honeywell Control Systems Limited Abstract: Objectives/Scope: Spend ten minutes in the company of most school or college age people almost anywhere in the world today and is quickly apparent that young people live in an always on, internet connected, multitasking world. Mobile devices, cloud computing, gaming on multiple devices, internet information and multichannel entertainment have revolutionised the everyday experience of the talent pool of resources available to the Oil and Gas industry. In order to compete and retain the human capital needed to sustain the industry, new solutions for education and training are required that respect the changing expectations of the workforce. The rapid evolution of consumer electronics and the cloud based computing platforms of the future are set to revolutionise the learning experience of the next generation. Methods, Procedures, Process: Focusing on the role of the control room operator and the field technician in the Oil and Gas industry this presentation explores methods and tools that organisations can use to enhance the learning experience of the student either as a new recruit or through continuous professional development. A framework is described that allows organisations to design learning and training experiences that will be both engaging for the students and cost effective for the organisation. Results, Observations, Conclusions: By designing the student workbook using a theoretical framework it is possible for students to develop towards clear well defined goals at their own pace, KPI based feedback is provided to help identify performance gaps and provide opportunities for active interventions. Examples are presented showing how use of gameification techniques such as virtual reality simulation together with more traditional challenge and response scenarios provide both an enriched experience for teacher and student. These new techniques motivate and engage students leading to increased attainment of learning outcomes and better retention of knowledge, skills and behaviors. Novel/Additive Information: The economic and social imperative for safe, efficient production combined with the market requirement to grow shareholder value puts pressure on human capital. Tim has been involved with the process industries for the last 28 years, working closely with end users, technology consultants and partner companies. His background includes experience gained in supply chain management, process optimisation and business applications working for enterprise software companies as well as time working in plant operations which is where his roots are having graduated in 1987 with a BSc in Chemical Engineering. Martin Ross Honeywell Control Systems Limited Martin Ross is part of the HPS Advanced Solutions marketing team holding the product marketing manager position for UniSim Operate and UniSim Design. Martin joined the marketing team in 2012 after 20 years in Honeywell s Simulation Projects and Aftermarket Services organization in EMEA. Educated at Imperial College in London with BSc and PhD degrees in chemical engineering, he is a member of the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers and is Six Sigma Green Belt certified. Before joining Honeywell in 1994, Martin worked for BP Research Sunbury-on-Thames as a technologist principally responsible for researching methods for measuring and estimating the physical properties of oil & gas reservoir fluids.

3 3 4 Smarter Operations The management of oil & gas operations have become complex due to market pressures, regulations, geographically spread sites, limited resources, and increasing volumes of data. The information age has caused an explosion of data not necessarily meaning to have more info and awareness; instead it has commonly resulted in data under usage, and people drowning in data wasting value time in manual processing in data/functional silos. There are more effective ways to use data to support smart operations and improve work processes. Smarter operations can improve safety of people, assets and the environment, while optimizing production and workforce efficiency. Smartly using data via advanced solutions can reduce safety risks, increase uptime, improve compliance, better use available brainpower more broadly, better integrate functions to monitor remote assets and provide performance information to users anywhere. This can help companies to move from a reactive to a proactive operating approach. The value of smarter operations resides in faster detection of issues, smarter decisions leading to faster incident correction and prevention, as well as a greater insight into operations and collaboration. Michele Loseto, Product Manager in Advanced Solutions, Specialization: Digital Oilfield Solutions Michele Loseto has over 18 years of experience conceptualizing, developing, implementing and supporting Digital Oil Field enabling technologies worldwide, with focus in Upstream Oil & Gas. He is currently Product Manager in Advanced Solutions, working closely with business/sales leaders to ensure that AS s offering satisfies current and future market requirements, and conceptualizing offerings to improve safety and production efficiency. He joined Honeywell in 2008 through Matrikon as a senior engineer for Well Performance Monitoring, and has had roles ranging from tech lead, project manager to sales consultant. Prior to this he was employed by an innovative company developing/marketing remote monitoring solutions for oil and utility industries. He also worked for 6 years in a national oil company developing, field testing and supporting the massification of novel metering and automation technologies to achieve operational excellence. Michele holds degrees in Electronic Engineering and Master in Business Administration. A Real-Time Sentinel for Continuous Process Performance Monitoring and Equipment Health Surveillance Today, companies require digital intelligence to manage hundreds or even thousands of assets from a single site or across an enterprise to address crucial operating demands. Digital intelligence transforms process data into real-time knowledge regarding process performance, equipment health and energy consumption. Plant operators also need continuous surveillance and notifications to take the right proactive actions, which minimize degradation, poor performance and secondary damage to equipment to ensure lower costs, increased throughput and higher profits. 4 5 6 Condition Based Safety Ensuring process safety is key to protect people, environment and assets, especially for companies handling flammable and hazardous materials. Is your Well data fully Exploited? Wells are the first connection points to reservoirs enabling production. Well data is frequently under-exploited for surveillance purposes. Honeywell Production Surveillance helps in the timely detection and prediction of unwanted events, by converting raw well data into useful information and presenting it to the proper people for analysis and decision making. Process safety cannot be overlooked and should be continuously monitored since unwanted events can occur if safety components cannot not operate as expected. Two essential components for process safety are shutdown systems and safety elements (e.g. safety valves). The traditional way of validating shutdown systems, safety elements, and performing SIL analysis relies on planned shutdowns, combined with manual data gathering and processing which is time consuming and prone to error. A more advanced approach is to continuously and efficiently do the latter in an automated way by advanced solutions tracking and validating the operation and condition of safety components. This can help companies to comply with regulations on quickly spotting components needing testing/maintenance to ensure proper operation, with supporting data and reports allowing post-event analysis for auditing, all towards bestin-class safety standards and achieving condition based safety. This continuous validation can shorten planned shutdowns, minimize deferrals and focus maintenance on areas needing attention when required. With new techniques and tools, the available well data can be firstly cleansed for ensuring data quality, and use it for advanced KPI calculation that includes the use of well engineering models and first principle models for estimating flow in real-time, to then use cleansed data and calculated KPIs for detecting and notifying events to the proper responsible persons. Integrating raw, cleansed and calculated KPIs in a powerful manner, allows easy visualization and navigation from high level to detailed views for analysis. Using the well data and models in a more proactive manner enables a smarter and faster detection of unwanted conditions, early in advance for minimizing or avoiding deferred production, equipment damage or unsafe conditions. How well is your Well? 5 7 8 Integrated Safety and Security How well is your Integrated Fire and Gas System doing? for the Optimum performance of your Health, Safety and Environmental systems.over the last few years, protection of the environment and ensuring health and safety have been and continue to be the highest priority for industrial automation projects in the process industry. The IEC61508 standard (ANSI/ISA S84.01 in the USA) represents a major step forward in achieving these important objectives. The overall safety lifecycle model described in the standard lists all the activities during all phases, from the concept (definition) phase to the decommissioning phase, that are necessary to ensure the functional safety of the equipment under control (EUC). These activities can be divided over a wide range of categories such as procedures, documentation, testing and validation, planning, hardware and software development, and risk assessment. Nowadays, Fire and Gas detection systems are generally considered for risk reduction and as protection for the installation. In addition, the implementation of the IEC61508 and S84.01 is becoming increasingly popular for Fire and Gas detection systems. Digital Video Manager fully integrates to the Experion Process and Security platforms putting eyes on equipment, processes and events remotely and without the need to put personnel at risk. Operators can then see key events and respond efficiently and effectively even when monitoring unmanned platforms. The Honeywell access control solution provides POB information and control of personnel throughout the facility. In an emergency situation it is possible to see mustering to safe havens in realtime while the integration with intelligent video provides better awareness of the situation especially when looking to identify injured personnel unable to evacuate. As a Safety Solutions Consultant, Rudi supports our customers with solutions for F&G applications. He has been with Honeywell for over 24 years and is located at Honeywell s Diegem Brussels office in Belgium. Rudi is a TüV Functional Safety Engineer (TüV FSEng) and holds a degree in electrical/ electronical engineering. Adrian Fielding Business Leader for Industrial Security Solutions Adrian works in the Global Solutions Marketing team within Honeywell Process Solutions. Adrian has been a key part of the Global Industrial Security initiative with Honeywell since Adrian is responsible for the coordination of Honeywell s strategic partners, business development and marketing of key solutions for the protection of large and medium sized operations that include - but are not limited to - Refineries, Pipelines, Power Plants, Chemical Plants, On & Off-shore Facilities and Industrial Ports. Prior to re-joining Honeywell Adrian was the Integrated Systems Division Manager for Swiss security products manufacturer, Kaba. Adrian has a strong technical background due to his 10 years of service as an Avionics Engineer with the Royal Air Force.
