Children younger than 8 should be kept away from the device. Keep the device and its accessories out of reach of children. DANGER! Keep the plastic wrapping out of the reach of children. There is a risk of suffocation. 4
Battery information You will need batteries to operate the wireless doorbell. Batteries may contain combustible materials. If not handled properly, batteries may leak, heat up excessively, ignite or even explode, which could result in damage to the device and your health. Warning! Risk of explosion if batteries are replaced incorrectly. Dispose of used batteries according to instructions. Please note the following advice: Keep batteries away from children. Contact your doctor immediately if a battery is swallowed. Never charge non-rechargeable batteries. Risk of explosion! Never create a short-circuit between the batteries and the connection terminals of the device. Never expose the batteries to excessive heat such as sunlight, fire or similar. Do not dismantle or deform the batteries. You could injure your hands or fingers or battery fluid could come into contact with your eyes or skin. If this happens, rinse the affected areas immediately with plenty of clean water and contact your doctor immediately. Avoid heavy impacts and vibrations. If necessary, clean the battery and device contacts before insertion. Always observe the correct polarity. Make sure that the plus (+) and minus (-) poles are correctly inserted to avoid short circuits. Do not mix up new and old batteries or different types of batteries. This could cause your device to malfunction. In addition, the weaker batteries would discharge too much. 5
Remove used batteries from the device immediately. Remove the batteries from the device if you do not intend to use it for a long period of time. Replace all of the old batteries in a device with new batteries of the same type. Cover the contacts of the batteries with sticky tape if you want to store or dispose of them. 6
Environmental requirements Transmitter The transmitter has a splash-proof housing. In optimum conditions, the transmitter has a range of 100 m. This can be reduced by structural conditions. Sources of interference for the transmitter can include: mounting on metallic objects, reinforced concrete, highfrequency interference of any kind, devices operating on neighbouring frequencies, poorly screened computers. Receiver Protect the wireless door chime s receiver from moisture and heat. Avoid placing or mounting the receiver in poorly ventilated areas (such as between shelves or where curtains or furniture can block the vents). Do not allow foreign bodies or liquids to get into the device. Do not expose it to dripping water or spray. Do not place objects that are filled with water, such as vases, on the device. Naked flames, such as lit candles, must not be placed on the device. Never carry out repairs yourself PLEASE NOTE! If there is a fault, contact the MEDION Service Centre or other suitable specialist workshop. 7
4 Assembly and part list When unpacking, ensure that the following parts have been supplied: Transmitter 1 x 3 V battery CR2032 for the transmitter Receiver 2 x AA batteries for the receiver Assembly material (4 screws, 4 wall plugs, 5 name plates) These operating instructions and guarantee documents. 14 6 Getting started Inserting batteries Transmitter The transmitter requires one 3 V battery, size CR2032. Loosen the retaining tabs to remove the front cover. Un crew the screw of the battery compartment cover. The transmitter is splash-proof and the cover fits securely onto the battery compartment. Use a sturdy, thin object (such as a small slot screwdriver) to gently lift the battery compartment cover. Make sure that the polarity of the battery is correct (+ pole facing up). Insert the battery under the guide lugs (2). Press the battery down gently until you hear it click into the retaining lug (1). Place the battery compartment cover back onto the battery compartment and screw it back into place. To put the front cover back onto the housing, hook the retaining lug facing the circuit board into the top snap joint and then gently press the front cover onto the housing until you hear it click into place. Receiver The receiver requires two 1.5 V batteries, size AA (L6/LR6). Remove the battery compartment cover. Insert the batteries. Observe correct polarity! The negative poles should each be on the spring. Replace the battery compartment cover. 11
Using the device for the first time For the wireless door chime to work, the transmitter and the receiver must be synchronised. After the batteries have been inserted into the receiver, a ring tone will sound for a few seconds and the LED will begin to light up. Follow the instructions below to synchronise the transmitter with the receiver. Press the bell button on the transmitter, while the receiver s LED lights up. A ring tone will be heard after which the transmitter is synchronised with the receiver. If the LED goes out before you have synchronised the device, begin the synchronisation process again. Ringer tone and volume You can set the ringer tone and volume on the receiver and change these settings at any time. Press the ringer tone button repeatedly to select between any one of 16 ringer tones/melodies. Set the volume using the volume control VOL. 1 = low; 2 = medium; 3 = high. Use the signal selector to choose the type of signal: Ringer tone only Flashing blue LED only Ringer tone and flashing blue LED Signals when ringing Depending on the settings made with the signal selector, the blue LED on the receiver flashes and/or a ringer tone or melody is played. 12
7 Free-standing setup/wall mounting Mounting the receiver WARNING! Choose a suitable location for mounting the devices and make sure that you do not damage any concealed electrical or installation cables when drilling. You can use the supporting eyelets on the rear side of the device to mount the receiver on a wall. Drill two holes suitable for 6 mm wall plugs. Insert the wall plugs. Screw in the large screws but leave the head projecting out. You can now hang the receiver on the screw heads. Setting up the receiver The base of the device is shaped like a stand so that you can also stand up the device. Select a smooth, non-slip surface for standing up the device. 13
Mounting the device base Hook one of the base s hooks into the receiver (1). Now press the base further onto the receiver, as shown, until the second hook clicks into place (2). Mounting the transmitter Find a suitable place by the door for mounting the doorbell. PLEASE NOTE! Before mounting the transmitter, test to see whether the transmitter signal can be picked up by the receiver. Do not mount the transmitted onto metal. 14
Screw on the wall mount Remove wall mount from the transmitter. This wall mount is attached to the wall as a back plate. Mark the two drill holes on the wall. Drill two holes suitable for 6 mm wall plugs. Insert the wall plugs. Screw on the wall mount using two of the screws. Put the housing onto the wall mount and press it gently until you hear it click into place. Name plate Label one of the supplied name plates. If you decide to label the name plate by hand, we recommend using a pen with waterproof ink. Slide the cover of the name plate panel to the side and insert your name plate. Make sure that the name plate is right next to the LED display so that the cover can be completely closed again. Slide the name plate panel back onto the bell. 15
Changing the battery in the transmitter Open the battery compartment lid on the transmitter. Use your finger or a pointed object (e.g. the nib of a ballpoint pen or a toothpick) to carefully lift the battery out of the compartment (1). Synchronisation After inserting new batteries or replacing spent batteries, the transmitter and receiver may have to be synchronised. After changing batteries, please test the function first. If you do not have a connection, synchronise as follows: Press the transmitter button on the receiver. Press the bell button on the transmitter. The selected melody will play and/or the LED on the receiver will flash. The transmitter and the receiver are now synchronised. You can synchronise a model MD transmitter with several model MD receivers. To do so, follow the procedure described above. 16
8 Cleaning Clean the receiver with a dry, soft cloth. Use a soft, moist cloth with a little detergent to clean the transmitter. Avoid the use of chemical solutions and cleaning products because these may damage the devices surface or markings. 9 Disposal Packaging Your device has been packaged to protect it against transportation damage. The packaging constituents are raw materials and can be reused or recycled.
