1 Indoor Living Wall Plant List A list of recommended plants for use on outdoor living walls to assist designers and other specialists with plant choice. Part of the Scotscape group
2 Adiantum Raddianum Aglaonema Alocasia Reginula Alocasia Sanderiana Anthurium Scherzerianum Light shade or dappled sunlight. Thrives in poor light areas. Bright spot but no direct sunlight. Slow growing. Will grow 30cm. Leaves will grow 40cm long. Grows 40cm tall. Maidenhair fern. Toxicity: Toxic if eaten. Popular varieties include Silver Queen and Silver King. Grown for its foliage. May suffer from mealy bug and aphids. Will rot from base if over wet. Toxicity: Toxic if eaten. May suffer from mealy bug & aphids. Flowering from Spring to late summer. 01 / 09
3 Asparagus Fern Asplenium Nidus Aucuba Japonica Variegata Begonia Escargot Begonias Bright or semi-shade. Shade to bright light, no direct light. Bright or shade, no direct sunlight. Leaf stems grow up to 90cm. Can grow 60cm. Can grow to 50cm long. Will grow 60cm long. Asparagus Fern is the most popular variety. Can flower white / pale pink on mature plants. Moist but don t overwater. Can be prone to scale insect. Only variegated varieties to be used indoors. Must be kept in check by pruning. Moist but not over wet. Mealy bug, aphids, thrips and powdery mildew maybe an issue. 02 / 09
4 Calathea Corona Calathea Dottie Calathea Lancifolia Calathea Makoyana Calathea Orbifolia Bright light but not direct sunlight. Grow 50cm tall. Moist but not over wet. Grown for foliage Grows 30cm-45cm so must be pruned to keep in checks. Fungus, aphids, mealy bug, spider mite & scale may be an issue if not treated. 6 Codiaeum Croton Crassula Ovata Dieffenbachia Dischidia Ruscifolia Epipremum Aureum Bright area. Likes full sun. Prefers partial shade. Keep in a warm area. Excellent air cleaner. Very slow growing. Prone to aphids & vine weevil. Fleshy leaves. Must be prune to keep shape as can grow 150cm. Trailing plant which grows 45cm long. Foliage is succulent like. Produces fragrant flowers in the summer. Can grow 4m long so keep pruned. Trailing / climbing plant. Excellent air cleaning plant. 05 / 09
7 Fatsia Japonica Ferns Ficus Pumila Fittonia Maranta Arundinacea Rubra Bright area. Fast growing. Grown for foliage, flowers rarely appear. Must be pruned to keep size. Polypodium Vulgare. Asplenium Nidus. Phyllitis Scolopendrium. Polystichum. Prefers partial shade. Needs to be kept pruned or can get out of control. Trailing plant. Small leaves, good for background. Indirect bright light. Slow growing. Moist but not soggy. Large variety of colours. Low growing and can get over shadowed. Bright light but not direct sunlight. Keep the soil moist but not overly wet, with a PH of about 6.5. Fungus, mealy bugs & aphids can be an issue (treat on the first signs). Almost all Marantas are treated the same. 06 / 09
8 Maranta Leuconeura Maranta Tricolor Monstera Deliciosa Nephrolepis Cordifolia Duffii Nephrolepis Exaltata Green Fantasy Usually grows about 30cm tall. Usually grows about 30cm tall. Light shade. Prefers light shade. Great for coverage and colour. Leaves will grow 90cm so must be Moist but not over wet. Mealy bugs, spider mites, thrips & scale may be an issue. Grows 30cm long and wide. Foliage can have a lemon scent. Generally pest free. Must be kept in check as they can easily over shadow other plants. 07 / 09
9 Pellaea Rotundifolia Philodendron Scandens Phlebodium Aureum Blue Star Rhipsalis Cassutha Saxifraga Stonifera Stems grow 30cm. Prefers slightly dry. Easy to grow. Shiny leaflets. Thrives in bright light but can survive in shade. Will grow 4m long. Trailing plant. Scale insect, thrips & spider mites may be an issue. Bright area but no direct sunlight. Can grow around 90cm long. Can add good contrast to the wall. Blue/grey coloured fern. Bright indirect light but can take full sun. Will grow 180cm so must be Water sparingly. Prefers shade. Can grow 30cm wide. Prone to spider mite attack. Grown for foliage rather than flower. Best grown in a mixed planting plan. 08 / 09
10 Scindapsus Pictus Soleirolia Soleirolii Spathiphyllum Wallisii Syngonium Podophyllum Tradescantia Zebrina Will grow 150cm long. Generally pest and disease free. Trailing plant. Prefers shade over full sun. Can spread almost indefinitely to produce a carpet effect. Must be kept in check or it will over shadow other plants. Prefers a bright area but away from direct sunlight. Moist, do not let it dry out. Easy to grow. Excellent at cleaning the air. Important to use Wallisii variety as others are too big for living walls. Bright area but no direct sunlight. Trailing / climbing plant grows 1.8m. Excellent at cleaning air. All parts are poisonous, keep out of reach of children / pets. Full sun or light shade. Trailing plant can grow 50cm Moist, but not over wet Grown for foliage rather than flower. Keep reasonably pruned to keep it from looking leggy. 09 / 09
