Boar s Rock Pty Ltd Spray Diary Page 1 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
TERMINOLOGY DEFINITIONS Below is an explanation of how to fill in the spray diary. DATE: Date of spray refers to the time that spraying ended VARIETY: The winery may supply a list of abbreviations, otherwise abbreviate so variety is clear to reader. BLOCK: Record the block name(s) and the order in which they were sprayed (be consistent through all your records). GROWTH STAGE: Growth stage of sprayed vines. Refer to the attached growth stage chart on page 5 (adapted from Coombe, B (1995) Grapevine growth stages the modified E-L system. Aust. J. Grape. Wine. Res. (1) pp ). TARGET PEST, DISEASE OR WEED: This section must be completed. Write the name/names of the pest, disease or weed you are targeting with the agrochemical you have applied. FULL REGISTERED PRODUCT NAME(S): Record the full registered agrochemical product name from the label. Abbreviations are not acceptable. e.g. Thiovit Jet not Thiovit or Sulphur. WINERY RESTRICTION ON USE: Check the restrictions on use with any winery you think your fruit may be sold to. The winery restriction overrides the label restriction on any product. Minimum recommended restrictions on use are listed in the annual AWRI publication Agrochemicals registered for use in Australian viticulture (Bell, S-J and Walters, C) The Dog Book *. However, always check with your winery or grape purchaser as they may have different and/or additional restrictions on use. *For a copy of the Dog Book contact the AWRI on or download a copy from Page 2 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
CHOSEN LABEL RATE OF REGISTERED PRODUCT USED PER 100L (g, kg, ml or L) Chosen label rate is the amount of registered product you have used per 100L that complies with the label rate. This column needs to be completed for fungicide or insecticide sprays. Note: this is not required for herbicide sprays as the rates are always given on a per sprayed Hectare basis. CF is the Concentration Factor used for concentrate spraying. Refer to attached pages 6-8 Using the Right Rate for an explanation (This is an example prepared by James Hook for CropWatch). AMOUNT OF WATER SPRAYED (L/ha or L/100m) is the actual amount of water or spray mixture applied to the canopy or ground expressed as litres per hectare or per 100m as required. The amount of water sprayed is often referred to as spray volume. State the actual chosen rate used NOT a range that appears on some labels. Note: For conversion of L/ha to L/100m refer to page 9 Water Rate Conversion (This was provided courtesy of Pernod Ricard) AMOUNT OF REGISTERED PRODUCT USED (g, kg, ml, L) is the total amount of registered agrochemical used expressed as product per hectare or product per 100m as required. To calculate the amount of registered product used per hectare or per 100m use the formulae and example on page 4. COMMENTS: This section is compulsory in NSW only, check with winery for specific requirements. Start/Finish: Start and finish times of spraying. Wind Speed and direction: This information is available in most areas through CropWatch weather stations Alternatively you can use the Beaufort wind strength scale (page 10) or Elders Weather Internet Site at Operator: Name of operator. Weather: Weather conditions during spraying. Equipment: Equipment used for spraying. Page 3 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
HOW TO CALCULATE AMOUNT OF REGISTERED PRODUCT USED Formulae Product/ha = Chosen label rate of registered product per 100L x CF x actual amount of water sprayed per ha 100 Product/100m = Chosen label rate of registered product per 100L x CF x actual amount of water sprayed per 100m 100 Fungicide and insecticide example Actual spraying volume = 500L/ha Concentration factor (CF) = 3 Chosen Kumulus DF label rate = 350g/100L Product/ha = Chosen label rate per 100L x CF x Actual spraying volume (L/ha) 100 = 350 x 3 x = 5.25 kg/ha Actual spraying volume = 15L/100m Concentration factor (CF) = 3 Chosen Kumulus DF label rate = 350g/100L Product/100m = Chosen label rate per 100L x CF x Actual spraying volume (L/100m) 100 = 350 x 3 x = g/100m Herbicide example expressed per ha Actual spraying volume = 500 L/ha Concentration factor (CF) always = 1 Chosen Basta label rate = 3L/ha Product/ha = 3L Page 4 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010

USING THE RIGHT RATE Step 1: Choose a Dilute Spray Rate. This is a measure of how much water it would take to get the vine canopy dripping wet. The Dilute Spray Rate is in Lt/ha or Lt/100m of row. Use either a look up table or unit canopy row measurements to work this out. A) Look up table B) Unit Canopy Row Dilute Spray Rate= Canopy Height (m) x Width (m) x Density Factor (30) x (100/row width) Look up table or Unit Canopy Row to = Dilute Spray Rate Step 2: How much water is your spray unit putting out? What you set your spray unit up is called your Actual Spray Rate. This is how much water your unit is putting in Lt/ha or Lt/100m. You need to calibrate your machine and check that you are getting good coverage! How much water per hectare or per 100m row = Actual Spray Rate Page 6 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
Step 3: What is the concentration factor? Dilute spray rate Actual spray rate = Concentration faction (CF) eg. 800lts/ha 300 lts/ha = 2.66 Step 4: How much fungicide do I put in my tank? Tank Spray Rate (g/ml 100lts) = Label Rate (g/ml/100lts) x Concentration Factor How much to put in the tank = (Tank size/100) x Tank Spray Rate Example: How much FLINT should I put in my 2000lt tank? Step 1: Choose a Dilute Spray Rate A) Dilute Spray Rate= 1000lt/ha Step 2: How much water is your spray unit putting out? Actual Spray Rate= 500lt/ha Page 7 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
Step 3: What is the concentration factor? (Dilute Spray Rate) 1000lt/ha 500 lt/ha (Actual Spray Rate) 1000 / 500= 2 Therefore the Concentration Factor = 2 Step 4: How much fungicide do I put in my tank? Tank Spray Rate (g/ml 100lts) = Product Label Rate (g/ml 100lts) x Concentration Factor The label rate of FLINT = 15g/100lts 15g/100lts x 2 = 30g/100lts in the tank How much to put in the tank = (Tank size/100) x Tank Spray Rate = (2000lts/100) x 30g = 20 x 30g = 600g Page 8 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
Water Rate Conversion Table Litres per hectare (L/ha) TO Litres per 100metres (L/100m) ROW 7' 8' 9' 10' 11' 12' 13' feet WIDTH metres m/ha 100m/Ha m/ha m/Ha SPRAY VOLUME L/Ha L/100m L/Ha SPRAY VOLUME Page 9 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
How to use this table: 1) Choose the ROW WIDTH matching your vineyard block from the top rows. Where there is not an exact match, choose the nearest ROW WIDTH. 2) Select the SPRAY VOLUME to be sprayed (in L/Ha) from the side columns. Where there is not an exact match, choose the nearest SPRAY VOLUME. 3) Follow across the appropriate SPRAY VOLUME and down the specified ROW WIDTH to where they intersect - read the specified value. 4) This value is the SPRAY VOLUME in L/100m that matches your vineyard block. For example: On 3.0m wide rows, a spray volume of 1500L/Ha is equivalent to 45.0L/100m. Page 10 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
BEAUFORT WIND STRENGTH SCALE: This scale gauges wind speed through the use of observations of the winds effects on trees and other objects. Example: "light breeze" is recorded as "2B" in the appropriate section of the spray diary. B. No Approx Speed Classification and Description 0 < 2 Calm Still, smoke will rise vertically. 1 2 to 5 Light Air Rising smoke drifts, weather vane is inactive. 2 5 to12 Light Breeze Leaves rustle, can feel wind on your face, weather vane is active to 20 Gentle Breeze Leaves and twigs move around. Light weight flags extend to 30 Moderate Breeze Thin branches move around, raises dust and paper to 40 Fresh Breeze Trees move and sway. Page 11 of 11 Version Number: 3 Issue Date:30/09/2010
