Keep the animal dry Of all of the available bedding materials, sphagnum peat has the highest absorbency factor with the ability to absorb up to 20 times its own cellular weight. Coco peat absorbs 10 times its own weight. As a coco peat supplier coco peat has salt and a high EC. Coco peat needs to be washed to reduce the salt and EC. Woodchips Sawdust adsorbs 1-3 times its own weight. The horse bed material allows for maximum coverage and structure in a shed and keeps the horse/s dry and comfortable. Because of its high absorbency and antiseptic properties, the horses will therefore be cleaner, and this greatly reduces the bacterial count and potential for illness. Peat Bed is the answer. The low ph acidic properties mitigates against the alkaline nature of the urine resulting in less ammonia and ensuring a cleaner environment. There are virtually no dust issues with the sphagnum peat compared to shavings, ideal for horses with respiratory difficulties. Exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage (EIPH), also known as bleeding or a bleeding attack, refers to the presence of blood in the airways of the lung in association with exercise. EIPH is common in horses undertaking intense exercise. Horses that experience EIPH may also be referred to as bleeders or as having broken a blood vessel. In the majority of cases EIPH is not apparent unless an endoscopic examination of the airways is performed following exercise. However, a small proportion of horses may show bleeding at the nostrils after exercise, which is known as epistaxis. Horses that suffer from EIPH are graded from 1-5 and can be withdrawn from races for weeks or months. Dust from bedding materials aggravates this situation. Peat Bed is the answer. Safe to use Peat bed is a natural product with no toxins or contaminants. There is no risk of any foreign objects getting into the product, which may be harmful to animals. From a farmer s point of view, the product is very clean, dry and easy to handle and very easy to work with when spreading. Easy to spread on land Due to its particle size, the peat remains suspended in the slurry when in a tank, therefore it is easy to spread on the land. With its neutral ph (neutralised from meal and feed ingested) and soil conditioning characteristics, the use of Peat Bed adds fertiliser value for spreading on land.
