8 What s hot in the vegetable & fruit world? Purple Passion Asparagus These burgundywine spears are a pleasant change from the average green asparagus. They have a nutty flavour when cooked and are sweeter than most other asparagus varieties. Provides excellent purple color if added to salads raw, but turns green when cooked. Arugula These strong tasting spinachlike greens with a delicious nutty flavor are very popular in salads or cooked like spinach. Available as a seed or in plant form in our greenhouse. Black Beauty Eggplant This variety produces large dark purple fruits on healthy compact plants with fruit remaining tender and tart for an extended period. They pack a variety of vitamins and minerals and many nutrients with antioxidant properties. Jawell Cucumber These delicious dark green mini fruits with nice ribbing are perfect for hanging baskets and will produce fruit all season long. Delicious for snacking. Available planted in hanging baskets in our greenhouse. 8 SUNSET NURSERY SUNSETNURSERY.ON.CA Be Sweet Edible Soya Bean More commonly referred to as edamame and a good choice for Northern climates. This early vegetable soybean is used primarily as a green shelled bean and has both superior eating quality and more protein than lima beans. High-yielding 30 inch plants produce medium-sized pods that hold 2 to 3 large beans. Pick up your seeds in our store today and starting feeling the benefits of this unique plant. Haskap Berries Tasting like a cross between blueberry, raspberry and black currant and high in antioxidants, vitamins, potassium and fibre, these hardy berries are sure to be a hit! Goji Berries These are the most nutritionally dense fruits on Earth. They contain essential amino acids, the highest concentration of protein of any fruit, loads of Vitamin C and more! Josta Berry This easy to grow fruit tastes like a combination of blueberry, kiwi and grape and are delicious eaten fresh or in jams and pies. Easy to care for and providing consistent harvests with minimal effort. Blackberries Why shop for these at the grocery store when you can pick them right out of your own backyard? These delicious berries ripen early to mid-summer and are the perfect treat on a hot summer day. Blueberries A traditional favourite, blueberries are both delicious and nutritious. It is recommended that you plant three different varieties for cross-pollination. Plant your own and bring them straight from the bush in the backyard to your table. It doesn t get much fresher than that! These are also easy to freeze for future use. Cherries Available in tree or bush form and as sour or sweet there is a variety to suit every palate. Hardy and delicious these are a real treat to grow and eat! Apple Trees We carry over 15 varieties of apples in our landscape area including 5 in 1 varieties. This means that you get 5 different varieties of apples off of one tree. How cool is that? Come and ask our staff about our different varieties and choose what best suits your needs. SEE PAGE 25 for more...
9 What s hot the vegetable & fruit world? continued... Pear Trees Available in an assortment of varieties - you require two different types for crosspollination.
