2 AACC has been approved as an Education Partner of the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). Our comprehensive curriculum embraces the criteria required for AIFD accreditation. Completing the AACC Floral Design certificate helps prepare students for a successful career as a certified floral designer. STEP 1: Successfully complete your AACC Floral Design certificate STEP 2: Attain score above 3.0 on a 5 point scale in the "Advanced Floral Design Evaluation" (FLR-333) class at AACC STEP 3: Complete the AIFD online test and receive an 80 percent or better within two weeks of receiving access to the online test Note: Classes listed are not restricted to students persuing the Floral Design certificate, but some classes do have prerequisites. 3 Floriculture 1: Basic Floral Design Discuss the tools, vocabulary and techniques required for basic floral design. Practice the elements and principles of design while creating floral arrangements. FLD Nov. 13-Dec. 11 Arnold-Main Lord 5 sessions Tu 6:15-9:15 pm Floriculture 3: Advanced Floral Design Develop advanced floral design skills. Utilize innovative techniques to create arrangements. Create armatures, topiaries and contemporary designs demonstrating applied knowledge of design elements and principles. At least one arrangement will be taken home each session. Prerequisite: FLD 304 Floriculture 1: Basic Floral Design; FLD 309 Floriculture 1: Lab; FLD 305 Floriculture 2: Intermediate Floral Design or Cost: $352 includes $187 fee. Floriculture 3: Lab Gain proficiency, speed and confidence in advanced design techniques taught in Floriculture 3. Discuss family consultations and coordination with funeral directors. Create traditional funeral arrangements such as casket and standing sprays. Prerequisite: FLD 304 Floriculture 1: Basic Floral Design or and ribbon scissors to class. Bring a bag lunch. Cost: $168 includes $102 fee. FLD Nov. 4 Arnold-Main Inskeep 1 session Su 10 am-4:30 pm Fresh Flower Care and Handling Examine the proper conditioning procedures for the most common flowers used in floral design. Identify the categories of flowers and foliage, and explore the industry standard products used when handling them. and ribbon scissors to class. Cost: $78 includes $42 fee. Note: Required to earn continuing education certificate. Students must bring flowers and a container for one project to create a $60 retail price centerpiece. FLR Sept. 20 Arnold-Main Powers 1 session Th 6:15-9:15 pm Party and Event Flowers Create over-the-top arrangements using premium flowers for corporate and social events. Identify event needs, develop a design, evaluate the mechanics required and construct various stunning event centerpiece arrangements. Prerequisite: FLD 304 Floriculture 1 or arrangements is recommended. To ease back stress, students may wish to bring a sturdy box, step stool or other riser to elevate arrangements while designing. Wedding Flowers: Business Essentials Learn to write the proposals, agreements and consultations required to set up a wedding flower business in the floral industry. Examine the business licensing process for Maryland and other business-related topics such as marketing, advertising and insurance. Cost: $127 includes $7 fee.
