3 WINNERS Best Media Room SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER (and Sunday, Monday...) With a dance flood, karaoke machine, and high definition picture and sound, this award- winning media room makes Studio 54 look like a library. AUDIO/VIDEO DESIGN & INSTALLATION BY ELECTRONICS DESIGN GROUP, INC. Three-time award winner (see Best Home Theater Level V & Best Hidden Installation), Electronics Design Group (EDG) of Piscataway, NJ helped to create the ultimate party room complete with dancing, karaoke, games, a full bar and of course, movies. Crank up with JBL Synthesis Home Cinema/Music System or the Pioneer karaoke player and the parquet dance flood becomes Studio 54. However, it;s not all boogie nights in this room - that is, unless the home-owners are watching Boogies Nights on the 110-inch Stewart Screen. Paired with a Sony-G-90 projector, the video system receivers DVD, LD, karaoke, and Dish Network Satellite. Speakers surround the eight-foot screen, and motorized curtains add even more color and drama. Easily controlled with one button of the AMX touchpanel, the clients can achieve a 4:3 ratio by adjusting the curtain to different settings. For more mellow nights in front of the tubs, EDG installed two 32-inch Sony direct view sets on each side of the screen. The JBL Synthesis 3 system fills the room with crisp, clear sound and rich bass for movie tracks or those impromptu dance parties, the equipment rack is located to the right of the screen and has convenient rear access via a closet door. The rack also has feeds from the multi-room rack for source distribution. This media room is a retreat for its happy owners and their guests who often take turns on the regulation pool table, air hokey and foosball table. When the pary's over, the only downside is figuring out how to politely ask folks to go home. Living the Electronic Life 63

6 WINNERS Best Hidden Installation LOOK MA! NO TV Creative electronics turn a quiet reading room into an awesome media space with a 50-inch plasma that disappears beneath the floor AUDIO/VIDEO DESIGN & INSTALLATION BY ELECTRONICS DESIGN GROUP, INC. Clean lines, no clutter and no visible electronics was the agenda for Electronics Design Group's client. The media room, which is located off the patio/pool area, is an addition to the house and functions as a reading area or tranquil place to relax. But when no one's looking, the Wall Street quickly hits the floor and a 50-inch plasma television rises magically in from of the fireplace. Design and installation of such a creative set-up required early architectural planning. The room was initially designed with a small crawl space below, but EDG convinced the contractors to increase the space by four feet so the TV could be raised to a comfortable viewing height. The Pioneer Pro-1000 plasma is fed by HDTV, both off-air and DirectTV, plus a Sony DVD, sealed box Triad speakers flank the fireplace for left and right channels, and the center channel is mounted at the base of the plasma. The subwoofer and surround channels are also in-wall Triads. Middle Atlantic AXS racks house the equipment in the rear right of the room cabinet, and all this gear, including the lighting and draperies, is controlled with an AMX touchscreen, this stunning and inventive design deserved the award for Best Hidden Installation - an award that should be proudly placed for everyone to see.
