The Old2style Lane Residence Rene wal and Life Form Rebuilt in the East Middle Huaihai L U, Shanghai ( By MOU Tian wei, CEN Wei) The old2style lane residence in Shanghai, has gradually shaped a certain life form according to the lifestyle of the day. Now along with the urban renewal, the old life form could not be maintained. In the urban renewal practice of Xin Tiandi, the physical form of the old2style lane is preserved, while the function has been changed. Exchange Costing Theory A ne w angle of study rural industry spatial pattern ( By ZOU Bing) The dispersed rural industry has been the general and the most projecting problem of small towns in China. However, years of the efforts attempting to change the situation have little effect. This paper re2discusses and analyses this issue from the angle of exchange costing theory, taking for that the essential factors of industry location are not the production costing, but the ex2 change costing. Therefore setting up the perfect institutional and organizational system to reduce the exchange costing, should be the orientation of the rural industry centralization. So the cities must try to increase their competi2 tiveness. Based on the analyzing of the backgrounds of the e2 mergence of Urban Competitiveness, this paper makes some description of the meaning and the relative determinant fac2 tors, including factors of urban competition assets and factors of urban competition environments. Thus, there are the preliminary evidence of fractal cities and fractal simulation models which might provide new meth2 ods for urban design and policy analysis.
