1 Installation Guide Lunera Smart T8 4ft Smart Lamp Replacement for 4ft Fluorescent T8 Type B - Single-Ended, Ballast Bypassed Installation Description The LUNERA SMART T8 4FT lamp functions both as an energy-saving replacement for T8 fluorescent lamps and as the intelligent IoT device for the Lunera Ambient Compute platform. The lighting element of this smart device operates as a low power, dimmable LED lamp for general ambient lighting. The installation of this smart device mimics the installation of any Type B, single-ended TLED lamp. Integrated into the smart lamp s end cap are a microcontroller for lamp control and energy usage verification; a near-infrared sensor for ambient light sensing; a low power Bluetooth (BLE 4.1) radio for provisioning/lamp activation and communications with local IoT devices/smartphones; and a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio which eliminates the need for a dedicated platform gateway, facilitating direct interaction with the Control Center and Marketplace of the Lunera Ambient Compute platform, authorized applications and compatible third-party devices and services. It also provides Wi-Fi assurance monitoring. This device only supports Non-Shunted lampholders. Shunted lampholders must be replaced with non-shunted lampholders that are wired into AC line voltage on one side of the fixture. This lamp may not be powered by a ballast or LED driver. It must be connected to 120V/277V AC. 2 LUNERA SMART T8 4FT 2 of 5 Installation Instructions Prepare the Fixture for Retrofit 1 Turn power OFF to the fixture. 2 Remove existing T8 fluorescent lamp from the fixture. 3 Remove the T8 fluorescent ballast from the fixture. The LUNERA SMART T8 4FT lamp is a Type B, single-ended lamp that is not compatible with ballasts or LED drivers. Check the Lampholders for Compatibility and Condition The LUNERA SMART T8 4FT is only compatible with non-shunted lampholders. See Diagram 1. 4 If the fixture has Shunted lampholders, replace the lampholders on the energized end of the fixture with non-shunted lampholders (Diagram 1). 5 If the fixture has lampholders that are rusted, cracked, or corroded, replace them with non-shunted lampholders that are in proper working order. Diagram 1. Shunted Tombstone - Not Compatible Non-Shunted Tombstone - Compatible The lamps are NOT compatible with shunted lampholders. Shunted lampholders are required with Instant Start electronic ballasts. If the existing fixture contains an instant start ballast, change shunted tombstones to non-shunted. The lamps are compatible with non-shunted lampholders. A majority of Rapid Start and Programmed Start ballasts use non-shunted tombstones. One wire must be connected to N and the other to L.

3 LUNERA SMART T8 4FT 3 of 5 Lampholder Use and Lamp Identification The LUNERA SMART T8 4FT lamp is a single-ended Type B (ballast bypassed) lamp that requires non-shunted lampholders on the energized side of the fixture, which is wired to 120V/277V line voltage. The lampholders on the other side of the fixture are for mechanical support only (Diagram 2). The power end of the LUNERA SMART T8 4FT is identified on the end cap with the Lunera brand marking as shown in Diagram 3. Diagram 2. Line Voltage side of the fixture Diagram 3. 4 LUNERA SMART T8 4FT 4 of 5 Completing the Installation 7 Apply the re-lamping label on a visible location inside the fixture. 8 Install the lamp. Find the end cap with the L and N marking and the Lunera logo and install into lampholder that is connected to line voltage. Each lamp has unique Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC addresses that will be assigned to sockets located on a RCP map. This allows the Lunera Ambient Compute platform software to recognize, control and communicate with each specific lamp. There are two methods to identiy the lamp and register it to the RCP map: Method 1: Automatic mapping (preferred) Install any lamp into any socket. The registration feature of the installation app will help you identify the newly installed lamp, which you simply drag and drop on the RCP map. Method 2: Manual mapping The Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC addresses on each lamp will need to be recorded on a RCP map and later entered into the CRP map file by the system administrator using the Cloud-Provisioning app to register the lamp. 9 Turn power ON. Refer to the Installation App Guide for more information. Registering (Activating) the Lamp Initially, the lamp will power ON in a 100% dimmed state and must be registered before lamp function will operate. The installer will use the included Installer Remote App, which runs on an Android Smartphone, to register the lamp. Login credentials must be established in advance to use the App. Contact the Cloud-Provisioning administrator for assistance downloading/installing the App or establishing login credentials. To Register the Lamp using the Installation App 10 Launch the Installation App. 11 Login using the provided credentials. 12 Use the App to navigate to the Building > Floor > Suite/Zone to show the RCP map where the installation is occurring. The App will show newly installed lamps ready to register. 13 Select a lamp. 14 Blink the lamp to identify it in the ceiling. 15 Drag the lamp icon onto the RCP map. All other registration is done automatically and the lamp is activated, connected and operational. Refer to the Installation App Guide for more information.
