3 INTRODUCTION Engineering has evolved and developed as practical art and a profession over more than 50 centuries. Historical studies of engineering teach us respect for the past and its achievement.
4 INTRODUCTION The concept of engineering has existed since ancient times as humans devised fundamental inventions such as the pulley, lever, and wheel. Each of these inventions is consistent with the modern definition of engineering, exploiting basic mechanical principles to develop useful tools and objects.

7 ENGINEERING The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) defines engineering as the profession in which a knowledge of the mathematical and natural sciences gained by study, experience, and practice is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of mankind.

52 Putrajaya Mula dibina pada 16 April 1995, Putrajaya akan menggunakan aplikasi teknologi maklumat (IT). Dengan terbinanya Putrajaya, suatu hari nanti Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, dan Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) akan menjadi Bandar gergasi standing dengan Tokyo dan Yokohama di Jepun. Untuk mencapai matlamat ini, Wetland Putrajaya telah dibina untuk menyingkirkan sedimen dan membersihkan aliran permukaan yang tercemar sebelum ia memasuki tasik. Sesuai dengan lokasinya di tengah-tengah bandaraya, Wetland Putrajaya menjadi titik penting dalam membawa rakyat untuk bersama-sama mencapai matlamat dari segi rekreasi, pendidikan dan penyelidikan. Lokasinya yang berada ditengah-tengah Koridor Raya Multimedia, Putrajaya seluas 4,931 hektar ini dibangunkan dengan kos RM20.5 bilion mengandungi Pusat Pentadbiran Kerajaan Persekutuan, Perumahan, Kemudahan komersial, kemudahan sosial dan kemudahan keagamaan. Pada 10 Mei 1999, Kompleks Pejabat Perdana Menteri mula beroperasi di Putrajaya. Putrajaya menjadi penanda aras kepada pembangunan dan pentadbiran sesebuah bandar baik di peringkat dalam negara mahupun di peringkat antarabangsa

54 KLIA Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur merupakan salah satu hab penerbangan yang terpenting di rantau Asia Tenggara Dibina dengan kos mencecah AS$ 3.5 bilion, KLIA akhirnya dibuka secara rasmi pada 27 Jun Lapangan terbang ini boleh menampung sebanyak 35 juta penumpang setahun dan 1.2 juta tan metrik kargo dalam fasa pembinaannya sekarang. Lapangan terbang ini telah menduduki tempat yang ke-13 di dunia dari segi bilangan penumpang asing di mana sebanyak 24,129,748 penumpang telah menggunakan lapangan terbang ini pada tahun Pada tahun yang sama, lapangan terbang ini juga telah mengendalikan 677,446 tan metrik kargo untuk menduduki tempat ke-30 di dunia dari segi pengendalian kargo. Lapangan terbang ini diuruskan oleh Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) dan Jabatan Penerbangan Awam (DCA)..Slogan lapangan terbang ini ialah "Membawa Dunia Ke Malaysia Dan Malaysia Ke Dunia" (Bringing the World to Malaysia and Malaysia to the World). Lapangan terbang ini berkonsepkan "lapangan terbang dalam hutan dan hutan dalam lapangan terbang". Keadaan ini dapat memberi ketenangan kepada penumpang dan memperkenalkan suasana hutan Malaysia kepada pelancong luar negara. KLIA mempunyai satu Terminal Penerbangan Tambang Rendah (LCCT) yang mula beroperasi pada 26 Mac 2006 bagi menampung penumpang yang menaiki AirAsia dan juga penerbangan tambang rendah yang lain.

56 Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil ialah pusat sukan dan bangunan sukan paling terkenal di Kompleks Sukan Negara, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil merupakan antara stadium yang terbesar di dunia dan menyediakan tempat duduk berbumbung untuk memberi keselesaan dan perlindungan optimum daripada cuaca untuk 100,200 penonton. Stadium ini mampu menganjurkan pelbagai acara dan juga sebagai tempat acara olahraga. Ia telah direka bentuk mengikut piawaian Kejohanan Dunia dan Sukan Olimpik dan mempunyai kemudahan padang dan trek. Stadium ini dibina khas untuk menganjurkan Sukan Komenwel 1998 di mana Malaysia menjadi tuan rumah sukan pasa tahun tersebut.. Trek sintetik 9 lorong berukuran 400 meter, lari jauh berhalangan dan lompat air, lompat tinggi, lompat jauh dan lompat kijang, lompat galah, lontar peluru, lontar tukul besi, lempar cakera dan merejam lembing. 100,000 tempat duduk dipasang pada 1997 dengan corak ketara yang dicipta menerusi penggunaan warna yang berlainan, menyumbangkan kesan visual yang menarik apabila stadium tidak digunakan. Stadium ini berbentuk elips dan bentuk mangkuknya yang klasik dihasilkan dan ditonjolkan oleh pertindanan tiga barisan tempat duduk. Bumbung membran ini menutupi 38,000 meter persegi.

58 Litar Antarabangsa Sepang Litar Antarabangsa Sepang ialah sebuah litar yang digunakan untuk perlumbaan Formula Satu, Grand Prix A1, Grand Prix Motosikal dan sukan permotoran yang lain. Litar ini terletak berdekatan dengan Lapangan Terbang Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (KLIA) dan 60 km di selatan ibu kota Kuala Lumpur. Litar ini dirasmikan oleh Perdana Menteri Malaysia yang keempat, iaitu Tun Doktor Mahathir Bin Mohamad pada 7 Mac Beliau kemudiannya merasmikan perlumbaan Moto GP yang pertama di Malaysia pada 20 April 1999, dan juga perlumbaan Formula Satu pertama di Malaysia.

60 Menara Berkembar PETRONAS Menara Berkembar PETRONAS di Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia ialah sepasang menara berkembar yang pernah menjadi bangunan tertinggi di dunia sebelum diatasi oleh Burj Khalifa dan Taipei 101. Sungguhpun begitu, kedua-dua menara ini masih merupakan menara berkembar tertinggi di dunia dan juga merupakan bangunan tertinggi pada abad ke-20. Menara Berkembar Petronas memegang gelaran bangunan tertinggi dari tahun 1998 hingga 2004 dari segi ukuran dari aras pintu masuk utama hingga atas struktur, iaitu rujukan ketinggian asli yang digunakan oleh pertubuhan antarabangsa Majlis Bangunan Tinggi dan Habitat Bandar sejak tahun 1969 (tiga kategori ketinggian tambahan diperkenalkan ketika menara ini hampir disiapkan pada tahun 1996).

62 Iskandar Malaysia Iskandar Malaysia, dahulunya Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar (Iskandar Development Region) merupakan koridor pembangunan yang dilaksanakan di bahagian selatan Johor. Koridor ini juga dikenali sebagai South Johor Economic Region (SJER) atau Pembangunan Wilayah Ekonomi Selatan Johor. Koridor ini diumumkan oleh bekas Perdana Menteri Malaysia Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi pada 30 Julai Koridor ini telah bertukar nama kepada Wilayah Pembangunan Iskandar (WPI) pada 4 November 2006 bersempena nama Sultan Johor, Almarhum Sultan Iskandar ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail. Namanya ditukar lagi menjadi Iskandar Malaysia pada 11 April [1] Tempoh pembangunan kawasan ini adalah sehingga tahun 2025 dan memerlukan kos lebih RM47 bilion untuk menjana pertumbuhan ekonomi sebanyak lapan peratus dalam tempoh lima tahun yang pertama.

64 Gerbang Selatan Bersepadu Projek Gerbang Selatan Bersepadu ialah projek nasional Malaysia dan dikendalikan oleh JKR Malaysia yang merangkumi pembinaan Kompleks Kastam, Imigresen dan Kuarantin (CIQ), Jambatan Tanjung Puteri yang menggantikan Tambak Johor di sebelah Malaysia dan stesen keretapi JB Sentral di Johor Bahru, Johor. Projek ini telah dikendalikan oleh Jabatan Kerja Raya dan Gerbang Perdana Sdn Bhd. Projek bernilai RM2.5 bilion ini dijangka akan menjadi sebuah mercu tanda pintu masuk antarabangsa, penyelesaian masalah kesesakkan lalulintas di Johor Bahru dan membawa pelbagai manfaat kepada negara. Walau bagaimanapun, projek penggantian Tambak Johor oleh Jambatan Tanjung Puteri dibatalkan pada 12 April 2006.

66 Legoland Malaysia Legoland Malaysia merupakan sebuah taman tema yang dibuka di Nusajaya, Johor, Malaysia pada 15 September Taman tema ini juga menyediakan lebih 40 tunggangan interaktif, persembahan dan tarikan. Ia juga merupakan taman tema Legoland yang pertama pernah dibuka di Asia semenjak penubuhannya. Pembukaan rasmi taman tema ini dilancarkan oleh Sultan Ibrahim Ismail pada 22 September Ia akan menjadi teras kepada kompleks yang bersepadu yang berukuran 5,500,000 kaki persegi (510,000 m2). Selain daripada taman tema ini, tarikan yang bertemakan Lego akan dibina berdekatan dengan kawasan ini pada suatu hari nanti. Seterusnya, taman tema air Lego adalah projek yang akan dibuka pada pertengahan tahun 2013dan juga Legoland Hotel. Kos pembinaan taman tema Legoland Malaysia adalah bernilai RM 720 juta manakala Legoland Hotel berjumlah RM 190 juta. Hanya makanan yang diiktiraf halal sahaja akan dijual di restoran sekitar taman tema ini. Makanan ini juga termasuklah hidangan yang dijual oleh peniaga tempatan dan asing. Selain itu, Legoland Malaysia juga menyasarkan 1.5 juta pengunjung menjelang pembukaannyadan menjana lebih daripada RM 100 juta pada tahun pertama operasinya.

68 Masjid Kristal Masjid Kristal merupakan sebuah masjid yang terletak dalam kawasan pelancongan Taman Tamadun Islam di Pulau Wan Man, Terengganu Masjid Kristal telah dirasmikan oleh Perdana Menteri, Dato' Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin bersama-sama Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tuanku Nur Zahirah telah berkenan berangkat ke Majlis Perasmian Masjid Kristal di Pulau Wan Man, Kuala Terengganu pada 8 Februari 2008 jam 6.00 petang. Masjid ini dibina daripada kaca dan keluli, masjid pintar pertama di Malaysia dan mempunyai keluasan 2,146 meter persegi. Masjid ini boleh memuatkan 700 jemaah pada satu-satu masa dan dilengkapi dengan prasarana teknologi maklumat dan liputan WiFi yang membolehkan pengunjung menggunakan kemudahan akses internet bagi membaca al- Quran elektronik.

70 Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin, sebelum ini digelar Masjid Besi, ialah sebuah masjid yang terletak di Presint 3, Putrajaya, Malaysia. Masjid ini yang mula dibina sejak April 2004 siap sepenuhnya pada Ogos 2009 dan dibuka pada hari Jumaat, malam Awal Ramadan 1430H. Masjid ini dibina bagi menampung sekitar 24,000 penduduk dan penjawat kerajaan sekitar pusat bandar serta kawasan Presint 2, 3, 4 dan 18. Masjid ini yang mempunyai keluasan sekali ganda berbanding Masjid Putra, yang terletak kira-kira 2.2 km ke utara, menjadi mercu tanda baru Putrajaya Masjid Besi mempunyai keistimewaan yang tersendiri antaranya tiada pemasangan kipas kekal ataupun alat penyaman udara di dalamnya, sebaliknya menggunakan gas penyejuk (gas district cooling atau GDC). Selain itu, masjid ini turut menggunakan Seni Bina Jaringan Wayar (Architectual Wire Mesh) atau Anyaman Masyrabiah yang diimport dari Jerman dan China (turut dipasang pada Stadium Santiago Bernabéu di Madrid dan perpustakaan negara Perancis yang dikenali Bibliothèque nationale de France yang terletak di Paris). Pintu gerbang masuk juga menggunakan konkrit bertetulang kaca (GRC) bagi mempertingkat integriti sesebuah struktur serta kaca hablur bagi menjadikan masjid kelihatan berwarna putih dari jauh.

74 ETHICS Ethic is the study of the morality of human actions. It is the science of determining values in human conduct and of deciding what ought to be done in different circumstances and situations. Major areas of study in ethics include: Meta-ethics, about the theoretical meaning and reference of moral propositions and how their truth values may be determined; Normative ethics, about the practical means of determining a moral course of action; Applied ethics, about how moral outcomes can be achieved in specific situations; eg. Engineering Ethics (futher discussion on Chapter 3)
75 INTERACTION RULES OF BEHAVIOR Engineers rarely work as lone individuals; we generally work in teams. Therefore, we need a set of interaction rules outlining the expected sets of behavior between the engineer, other individuals, and society as a whole. Interaction rules can be classified as etiquette, law, morals, and ethics
76 INTERACTION RULES OF BEHAVIOR Etiquette rules of acceptable personal behavior and courtesy when interacting with others in a social setting. Addresses such issues as how many forks to place on the dinner table, proper dress at weddings, seating arrangements, and invitations to parties. In engineering, proper etiquette is manifested by showing proper respect to employers and clients, not embarrassing colleagues, answering the phone in a professional manner, and so forth.
77 INTERACTION RULES OF BEHAVIOR Laws a system of rules and punishments clearly defined and established by a society to maintain a safe and orderly social environment. violations of law carry penalties such as imprisonment, fines, community service, death, dismemberment, or banishment. Each society has its own consequences for law violations. Example of law in engineering : Registration of Engineers Act 1967 of Malaysia stipulates that all engineers including graduate engineers shall register with BEM to take up an employment as a Graduate Engineer.
78 INTERACTION RULES OF BEHAVIOR Morals personal rules of right and wrong behavior derived from a person s upbringing, religious beliefs, and societal influences. Moral are derive from our parents, religious background, friends, and the media.

For degree which is not recognised (e.g. 3 years programme) need to be top up with a master degree by instruction from accredited university. Registration fee of RM50.00 is compulsory for each and every candidate who wish to apply.
