2 Who We Are City Beautiful Commission Formed in 1961 Adjunct commission Comprised of 15 nonpartisan volunteers Appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council A monthly meeting is held and is open to the public Our Mission: To enhance and safeguard the beauty of our natural resources and city landscape, thereby enriching the quality of life in our community.

3 Programs City Beautiful Commission Brick Program - helps fund the expanding collection of palms and plant material Gift Tree Program - donations are made towards a commemorative tree Annual City Beautification Awards - a time to thank and recognize Palm Arboretum - you too can volunteer to help preserve this beautiful garden

7 Eligibility Property must be within city limits Landscape must be in place for one full year Award Criteria Overall aesthetic appeal Professionalism in landscape design, color, and balance Quality of architectural design and placement Quality of landscape and building maintenance Treatment of parking areas Preservation of trees and natural amenities Awareness of ordinances and city code Determination if the property enhances appearance of the area

8 Landscape Architectural Design 1. Creation of a functional, active people space implementing safety, security, and connection with a native-natural environment to gather and socialize. 2. Establishment of a design premise and consistency of fulfillment. 3. Genius loci - recognize, blend, and adapt the landscape architectural design to the local climate and culture. 4. Sustainability of design elements - the ability to be maintained on a long-term basis with minimal support. 5. Introduction of the creativity of the human element. The ability to celebrate architectural and cultural elements that make a unique sense of space.
