4 Explore Paris Paris is the capital and most popular city of France, the 3rd most visited city in the world. Paris is synonymous with all that is French. Paris known throughout the world as the City of Light. It is the most populated city in France. It is a major European city and a global center for fashion, art, gastronomy and culture. The last estimate in 1997 claimed 2,152,000 inhabitants lived in Paris. The language of the Parisians is French. Paris has a typical Western European oceanic climate which is affected by the North Atlantic Current. The overall climate throughout the year is moderately wet and mild. Paris has many historical buildings and art museums. Paris has a multi-cultural style, because nearly 20% of the people in Paris are from outside France. The Eiffel Tower is the most famous sight in Paris, built by Gustave Eiffel in 1889 with 6,300 tons of iron. The Eiffel Tower is not just the symbol of Paris but it s the symbol of all of France. Once you reach the base of the tower, it is possible to visit the three levels, there is a lift to take you to each level. Eiffel tower is one of the most visited monuments in the world with nearly 7 million visitors a year.
