1 A Network of Great Downtown Chicago Landscapes Join the designers of some of Chicago s most successful civic landscapes on a journey through Dan Kiley s South Garden of the Art Institute, Millennium Park, Maggie Daley Park, and the Park at Lakeshore East. Along the way, get the inside scoop on the development history, initial design concepts, and detailed decisions that shaped each place. Learning Objectives. 8 The Park at Lakeshore East The Park at Lakeshore East Planning: Skidmore, Owings and Merrill Designer: Office of James Burnett, Site Design Group Year: Completed in 200 Agenda - Overview of the park at the top of the stairs overlooking the project - An extension of Field Street s axis, the Grand Stair offers a commanding view of the park and accommodates the 25 grade differential created by Chicago s -tiered transit system - Two sweeping promenades serve as the primary circulation across the site - Each promenade features a series of fountain basins - Various seating areas - Ornamental gardens - Children s garden - Dog park - Event lawn Notes Presenter: obert Sit, AIA As a founding partner of site design group, ltd., obert K. Sit provides expertise in the architecture, business management, and technology development for the firm. obert s architecture projects have included the design of numerous restaurant, retail, and institutional projects in the Chicago area. He is member of the American Institute of Architects, and contributes to the profession through continued advocacy and education. obert is involved in fund raising for numerous non-for-profits while promoting music and the arts. Presenter: Chip Tragesor, ASLA Chip Trageser, ASLA, is a licensed landscape architect with over 24 years of professional experience. As principal, his responsibilities include design direction and operational management for the Houston, Texas office. He is currently overseeing the design of the Levy Park in Houston, Hughes Landing Mixed-Use Development in The Woodlands, Tx, Springwoods Village in Spring, Tx, and the 5th Street Promenade at Baylor University. Chip was the Principal-in-Charge of the Park at Lakeshore East in Chicago and the Brochstein Pavilion at ice University with Thomas Phifer and Partners.
