3 1.0 Welcome Thank you for choosing this quality Clipsal product. This manual is intended to help you install this product in a way that ensures the safety of yourself and others. Whilst this Clipsal product is designed to be installed easily, we highly recommend you take the time to read this manual thoroughly before commencing installation. When installed correctly and serviced regularly, this product will provide hassle free operation for many years. 2.0 Safety Warnings THIS PRODUCT MUST ONLY BE INSTALLED BY A LICENSED ELECTRICIAN. BEFORE COMMENCING INSTALLATION TURN OFF AND ISOLATE THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY. AS THE INSTALLER, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO ENSURE YOU COMPLY WITH ALL RELEVANT BUILDING AND SAFETY CODES (FOR EXAMPLE AS3000, AS/NZS2293). REFER TO THE APPLICABLE STANDARDS FOR THE RELEVANT RULES. Do not touch the terminal block or circuitry when the fi tting is energised. The only user serviceable parts are the lamp and the battery pack. Do not attempt to service other parts of the fi tting as this will void the warranty. When installation is complete, please leave this manual with the building s owner/s for future reference. 3 of 8
4 3.0 Installation Instructions 1. Remove the WAFER exit light from its box and inspect it for any damage or imperfections. If you believe the product to be damaged, or otherwise unsound, DO NOT install the fi tting. Pack it back in its box, and return it to the place of purchase for replacement. 2. If the product is satisfactory, proceed with the installation. Use the cut-out template found in the box to mark the installation hole in the ceiling. The WAFER exit light will need to be installed into a ceiling cavity with a minimum of 80mm clearance. Ensure that all insulation is removed from around the cut-out providing a minimum of 50mm clearance between any insulation and the cut-out. At no time should insulation be placed on top of the WAFER exit light. 3. Ensure that a V plug outlet is available within a close distance of the WAFER exit light. 4. Ensure that the battery is connected to the WAFER exit light. 5. Plug the power cable connected to the WAFER exit light into the available power outlet, ensuring that the cable from the exit sign goes through the cut-out and then to the power outlet. 6. To install the WAFER exit light into the ceiling, fi rst ensure that the long ends of the spring clips are pointed upwards and latch inside the ceiling cavity. Once all clips are latched into the ceiling cavity, push the exit light body up into the roof. As you push upwards the clips should assist in pulling the body fi rmly against the ceiling. Ensure that the exit light is secured onto the ceiling. If the exit light has movement you may need to adjust the mounting and maybe use some packing materials to ensure the spring clips have adequate tension. 7. Use a fl at blade screwdriver and unclip the diffuser cover, found at either end of the exit light body. The cover will lever away from the body. Slide the selected diffuser into the exposed rail and then clip the cover back onto the body. 8. If you require a double sided diffuser, simply peel off the white backing on the single sided diffuser to show the second side. 9. Check the operation of the fi tting to ensure that the installation was successful. When powered up, allow a few minutes to give the battery a small charge, then press the manual test button located on the side of the fi tting. When the test button is held down for a few seconds, the lamp will remain on and the red LED will go out. If the lamp lights, but does not stay on until the test button is released, this means the connections are correct, and the battery requires at least 24 hours to fully charge. If the lamp does not light at all, check the supply, the connections, and then the problem solving procedure on page 7 of this manual. 4 of 8
5 4.0 Maintaining your WAFER Exit Light WARNING: The WAFER exit light is connected to an un-switched active during normal operating conditions. When disconnected from the mains supply, the exit light is powered by a battery operated inverter. Due to this, care should be taken when replacing either the battery or lamp. 5.0 Removing the Body from the Ceiling 1. Remove the diffuser from the body by fi rst removing the end cover and sliding the diffuser off (optional). 2. Pull down on the body until the tension of the spring clips is negated. The body should easily drop from the ceiling once enough force has been applied to the body in a downward direction. 3. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet. 6.0 Removing the Lamp 1. Remove the WAFER exit light body from the ceiling, ensuring the power has been disconnected. 2. Unscrew the end cap which has REMOVE COVER TO REPLACE LAMP marked on it. 3. Use only the lamp recommended on the label of the WAFER exit light. You CANNOT use any other lamp than the one specifi ed on the body of the unit. 4. Unplug the LED strip and then slide the strip out of the body. 5. Replace the strip and reconnect. Screw on the end cap and then reinstall the exit light into the ceiling. 7.0 Replacing the Battery the Razor Exit Sign from the roof 1. Unplug the battery found on top of the body and then unclip the battery from its holder. 2. Replace the battery and reconnect the plug. 3. Reinstall the exit light into the ceiling. 5 of 8
6 8.0 Testing Precautions When the WAFER exit light is permanently connected to the mains supply you will need to allow 24 hours to charge its battery. Once the battery is fully charged you will need to conduct a manual discharge test, as per the requirements of AS/NZS At the time of printing, the standard requires that new fi ttings operate in emergency mode for at least two hours for their fi rst test. Further tests are required every six months. It is important that you keep records of the initial test and ongoing tests in the building s emergency service logbook. If the fi tting is not to be permanently connected to the mains supply at the time of installation, you must give it the mandatory two hour test when you connect it permanently to the mains supply. 9.0 Construction Sites IMPORTANT NOTE: Continuously switching the power supply to the fi tting on and off, during or after the installation process, due to other processes being conducted on the building site could cause the fi tting to discharge and charge its batteries many times over during a short period, which can impact negatively on the battery s life. It is not recommended that you connect the exit light to the power supply, if such conditions are prevalent. If you choose to expose this product to such harsh operating conditions, the distributor of this product, Clipsal Australia Pty Ltd, may not honour any warranty on the life of the batteries or of the lamp. This WAFER exit light is designed to undergo regular discharge tests but it is recommended that the intervals between consecutive tests are not less than two weeks. Frequent testing of the exit light will reduce the service life of the battery. In order to prevent damage to the battery, leave the un-switched active circuit turned off at the circuit breaker until such time as emergency lighting is required on the site. 6 of 8
