7 The following is the recommended minimum checks that the User should be aware of and perform prior to operating the Peri-Pro. Refer to the Schedule Maintenance in this manual for detail procedures. 1. Recommended Chemistry Water Change Change water every day. Change chemistry every films or in two weeks, whichever is sooner. Place the calendar date of the most recent change and the next change date in a conspicuous location. Update the entry when you change the water and the chemistry. Be sure to follow this schedule - Although X-rays processed beyond this schedule may appear satisfactory today, they may not have the storage life you expect. When processing films with the Peri-Pro, follow the temperature guidelines in paragraph 3 below. Having a good routine from the beginning will insure that this schedule is followed. Keeping the chemistry and water fresh will result in consistent film quality and minimum x-ray exposure to your patients. 2. Liquid Levels Change water every day. Frequently check the liquid levels in the three tanks. If necessary, top off the two chemistry tanks to the recess line with distilled water. Low liquid levels may cause an artifact to appear on the film. See page 33, Table 2, Problem Chemistry Temperature The Peri-Pro has been designed to give optimal results with the temperature of the Peri-Pro Developer and Fixer chemistry in the range of F. If the temperature of the chemistry is not within this range when you fill the tanks, wait until it reaches room temperature before processing. If the room temperature is below 70 F, keep the switch on to raise the chemistry temperature above 70 F. Once the proper temperature is achieved, be sure to shut-off the Peri-Pro by depressing the Power Switch. Operational Quality Test Refer to the associated User s Manual to check the Peri-Pro for correct operation as follows: 1. Check the quality of processed films a. Turn on the Peri-Pro by depressing the Power Switch 1) make sure that the chemistry temperature is between F. 2) Wait for the Ready Light to illuminate (Peri-Pro II & III only). b. Process an unexposed film. c. Momentarily expose a film to room light and then process. d. The unexposed film should be completely clear. e. The light exposed film should be completely black. f. If your results differ from steps d. and e, consult the troubleshooting section. 2. Check the consistency of processed films a. After cleaning the processor and refilling with fresh chemistry, process a double film packet that has been exposed as part of a regular x-ray examination. b. Make sure that the chemistry temperature is between F. c. Mount one of these films in the corner of your view box, and retain it as an index film. d. Periodically, place a film next to this index film for comparison purposes. Be certain this film has been exposed using the identical technique factors as the index film. e. Compare the density and clarity of the two films. f. Consult the troubleshooting section should any major differences occur. 7 Pre-Operational Checks

8 Scheduled Maintenance Performance and adherence to a regularly scheduled maintenance is critical to maintaining quality processor performance. The maintenance schedule is outlined below and the detailed procedures are provided on the following pages. We recommend using Formula 2000 Plus cleaner, and Peri-Pro Developer and Fixer, which are specially formulated for Peri-Pro processors. This maintenance schedule may have to be modified if more frequent cleaning is required. 1. Daily Maintenance Change water (white tank). Top off chemistry with water (red and black tanks). 2. Two-Week Maintenance Interval (or every 300 to 350 films whichever is sooner) Scrub Film Transport Change Chemistry Clean Peri-Pro III Heater Plate 3. Quarterly Maintenance Interval Clean with Formula 2000 Plus Daily Maintenance Procedure. Different Peri-Pro models require different procedures to access the water and chemistry tanks. The main cover must be removed to access the water and chemistry tanks on the Peri-Pro I and II models. On Peri-Pro III models, the tanks are accessed via the Refill Access Door. Also some Peri-Pro III models incorporate an exterior Drain Valve and Drain Hose to empty the water tank without removing the Main Cover. 14 Transport Driver Arms Realignment Transport Timing Alignment The transport timing alignment is important for the proper processing of film. This alignment consists of setting the six transport driver arms, relative to the timing gear on the rear of the transport. This is accomplished differently for specific Peri-Pro models. Peri-Pro I and II models, refer to Figure 10 and position the three U shaped pusher arms and the three L shaped transfer arms to the horizontal position. With the arms in this position, check that the timing gear is positioned the bump is to the left at approximately 10 o'clock (see Figure 10, View B). Peri-Pro III models, refer to Figure 11 and position the three L shaped pusher arms and the three L shaped transfer arms to the horizontal position. With the arms in this position, check that the timing gear is positioned the bump is to the left at approximately 1:30 o'clock (see Figure 11, View B). This orientation, described for specific Peri-Pro models above, should always be maintained for proper transport timing alignment. When an arm is out of alignment, it is probably due to broken or chipped teeth in a gear. Check for this and replace the defective gear. Important: Experience has shown that chipped gears occur in dirty transports. Make sure to instruct the User of the importance of following the Scheduled Maintenance cleaning instructions provided here and in the applicable User s Manual. If any transport arm is out of alignment, correct as follows: 1. U Pusher Arm for Peri-Pro I and II models or L Pusher Arm for Peri-Pro III models: a. Remove the snap ring securing the arm. b. Lift out the arm. Rotate it relative to its idler gear. c. Reinsert arm and install the snap ring. 2. L Transfer Arm (all Peri-Pro models): a. Remove the snap ring on the appropriate transfer arm idler gear. This idler gear is adjacent to the drive gear for the transfer arm. b. Remove this idler gear and rotate the transfer arm gear to the proper orientation. c. Install the transfer arm idler gear and its snap ring. 3. Timing Gear (all Peri-Pro models): a. Remove the timing gear snap ring. b. Slide off the timing gear. c. Position all arms in the horizontal position (View A of Figures 10 and 11). d. Replace the timing gear with the bump aligned as follows: Peri-Pro I and II models - approximately at 10 o'clock as shown by Figure 10, View B. Peri-Pro III models - approximately at 1:30 o'clock as shown by Figure 11, View B. Make sure that the inside of the gear fits squarely into the timing gear. e.
