3 Description of the screw compressor KAESER SM 11 The KAESER screw compressor with Sigma profile is a twin-shaft rotary compressor. It is driven by belts through an electric motor. In the housing there are two roller bearings rotors, the male screw and the driven main rotor. When the rotors are rotated, air is drawn in through the intake manifold on the upper side, while the compression process takes place on the lower side. The oil injected into the housing at the bottom absorbs the compression heat generated during compaction, prevents metallic contact with the rotors and at the same time serves to lubricate the rolling bearings. The compressor has no reciprocating masses, does not require any suction or pressure valves for control and thus ensures smooth operation of the system. 3 - Equipment (Group 6) Source: KAESER user manual

6 Installation instructions Screw compressor KAESER SM 11 Ventilation for air-cooled systems The installation of the screw compressor system should take place according to the drawing below. To allow free access to the facilities, the minimum distances must be observed. Sufficient ventilation of the compressor room is achieved by observing the following minimum values: 6 - Equipment (Group 6) Source: KAESER user manual

Solution A: Natural ventilation For ventilation by natural draft, the exhaust air and supply air opening must be correspondingly large (see previous table).

Solution B: Artificial ventilation The exhaust fan provided for ventilation of the room must provide the appropriate air flow depending on the size of the system (see previous table). Solution C: Exhaust air is used for heating purposes Here, the warm exhaust air must be routed through a duct into the room intended for heating. Attention: Channel length and number of elbows, according to the type of plant: agree with the compressor manufacturer. Safe operation of the system can only be guaranteed if the temperature of the intake cooling air is not lower than 3 C or not higher than 40 C. For temperatures below 0 C, please send an enquiry. Compressed air connection The plant is piped ready for operation. For commissioning, it is only necessary to connect to the compressed air network via an elastic connecting hose. A check valve between system outlet and compressed air network is not required because it is already installed in the system. The standard built-in air aftercooler allows a compressed air outlet temperature of approx. 10 C above the intake temperature. Electric connection With the system wired ready for operation, only the connection to the electrical network has to be made. The cable with the conductors L 1, L2, L3, N and PE is inserted through the PG gland in the control box and connected there to the designated L 1, L2, L3, N and PE terminals. A lockable main switch and main fuses are to be provided by the customer (VBG 5 dated 01.April 1986). This main switch must have a switching capacity that must be at least as high as 1.1 times the specified rated motor power. The following table gives guideline values about the necessary cable cross section and the fuse. 7 - Equipment (Group 6) Source: KAESER user manual

8 Additionally: The cable cross-sections and fuses are designed in accordance with VDE 0100 TeiI 430 and 523 for an ambient temperature of 30 C. In other operating conditions, such as higher ambient temperature or longer supply lines (more than 50 m), the supply line cross sections and fuses must be checked and specified in accordance with the regulations of VDE 0100 or the local RUs. Setting the overcurrent release With the star-delta circuit, only the string of current is fed via the overcurrent release. This string current is 0.58 times the rated motor current. Setting value: 0.58 times the rated motor current In order to prevent tripping of the overcurrent release during voltage fluctuations, the set value can be approx. 10% higher than the string current. -- Before any adjustment on the compressor, the power supply must be interrupted by switching off the main switch Equipment (Group 6) Source: KAESER user manual
