7 BW-SL 154 with AUTOlearn technology Unpack, install, lean back. It s as easy as that. Year Warranty from date of manufacture Simple installation of the pump in no time at all. Install the cable box and switch on the pump. Mode of functioning Hot water is tapped. The supply line warms up which is detected by the pump (temperature sensor). The pump starts running and memorizes the time when the hot water has been tapped. Subsequently the pump provides hot water proactively according to the learned tappings. Green continuous light: Pump running Run-time optimization The pump only runs on request (see above), according to learned tappings or for a disinfection run. After some time hot water is only conveyed up to the last tapping point and no longer all the way to the pump. The pump does not start up if there is a request for hot water while the circulation pipe already is hot. The pump does not run if the circulation pipe is cooling down (hot water not being tapped). It prevents the pump housing from cooling down unnecessarily. The insulating cover is available as an accessory (provided as standard with the BW-SL 154). 8 VORTEX High-quality components guarantee flawless functioning. The magnetic field generated in the motor acts directly on the magnetically attracted rotor. The types of material used and the special shape of both rotor bearing and bearing pin guarantee noiseless operation of the spherical motor free of play. The spherical motor only requires one sealing ring between the motor and the pump housing. It is resistant to short circuiting and does not require an external motor protection. The rotor can be easily cleaned or replaced. Cap nut The cap nut enables quick separation of the motor from the pump housing. This makes cleaning and descaling of wetted parts very easy. 9 Control components Energy savings and user convenience are top priorities for VORTEX control components. The directions of the German EnEV Energy Saving Decree on domestic water pumps switching themselves on and off and limiting the temperature of the hot water are met by using VORTEX control components. All timers and the multi-function module are rotatable by 360. This results in optimum visibility of the operation and display field, even in inconvenient mounting positions. The temperature sensors are located directly behind the water carrying part and thus pass on exact temperatures to the electronics. 12 Technical data High performance in all areas VORTEX pumps for domestic hot-water are designed for drinking water circulation systems. Depending on the layout of the pipework, they are suitable for use in single or multi-family houses, they also can be used in multi-family houses of up to 12 accommodation units if auto-balancing Vortex Circulation Controllers are installed for circuit regulation. 15 Accessories Venting flange Purging and bleeding the circulation system an essential prior to operating the pump The circulation pipework must be bled and purged prior to operating the VORTEX pump for domestic hot-water in the system. The bleeding and purging process is necessary so that bearings are not damaged due to dry running or the rotor is not damaged due to assembly residues or dirt in the pump. Assembly of the venting flange and bleeding the circulation system Switch off power supply of the pump, close suction and pressure water supply to the pump; for extra safety we also recommend that the main plug valve is closed. Unscrew the cap nut and remove the motor from the pump housing. Screw the venting flange onto the pump housing. Slip the drain hose (not included in the delivery scope) onto the nozzle. Bleed and purge the circulation system by opening the suction-sided shut-off valve. The 1/2" discharge diameter generates a high flow speed in the circulation pipework which sweeps away any present air. Bleeding and purging is finished when the emerging water is free of bubbles and dirt particles. Shut off the water supply, remove the venting flange, replace the motor tightly and reopen the water supply. Any residue air still in the pump housing after screwing on the motor is discharged quickly by switching the pump on and off several times. VORTEX 15

16 Accessories Circulation controller Hot-water distribution as required by the user In branched circuits the uniform supply of all taps with hot water requires a time-consuming hydraulic balancing. Usually, the valves and fittings used for this purpose do not allow trouble-free continuous operation. With the VORTEX circulation controller this problem is reliably solved in time not worth mentioning. The VORTEX circulation controller is a valve that opens or closes when the temperature in the circulation line changes. A thermostat element is responsible for this automatic control. The VORTEX circulation controller is provided with a bypass and thus is also suitable for thermal disinfection. Therefore, the water first flows through circuit until the water temperature set at the temperature controller is attained. Then the thermostat element in circulation controller closes and the resistance increases. At the latest now the water flows through the longer circuit until the temperature set at circulation controller is also reached in this circuit. The thermal control closes if the boiler temperature is increased up to 70 C. Then the hot water flows through the bypass and heats up the complete drinking water circulation system. The flow rate is adjustable at the flow-control actuator. 17 Pumps for domestic hot-water BW / BWZ 401 with a maximum delivery head of 3.70 m The VORTEX BW 401 domestic water pumps are wet-rotor pumps. The pump and the motor are combined in a compact modular assembly. The motors are blocking current resistant and do not require a protective motor switch. 18 Replacement overview Pumps from other manufacturers can be replaced by VORTEX pumps for domestic hot-water according to the following overview. When replacing a VORTEX pump with spherical motor replacing of only the motor usually is sufficient. For new designs it was ensured that motors are compatible. If the motor to be replaced was manufactured prior 1980 it is advisable to consult VORTEX. General Information The exchange types are not prescribed mandatorily - other combinations, in terms of control components, are also possible.
