5 Technology Peristaltic A peristaltic pump, or roller pump, is a type of positive displacement pump used for pumping a variety of fluids. The fluid is contained within a flexible tube (squeeze tube) fitted inside a circular pump casing. A rotor with a number of rollers (spinner) attached to the external circumference compresses the flexible tube. As the spinner turns, the part of tube under compression closes (or occludes ) thus forcing the fluid to move through the tube. Additionally, as the tube opens to its natural state after the passing of the roller a vacuum is created and fluid is drawn into the tube. We have introduced spring loaded spinners to our peristaltic pump product line for the CP200, Sprite and Mercury Models. As the name indicates, with the spring loaded spinners the rollers are mounted on a spring. This innovative design helps overcome the variations in the tube wall thickness as the tube deteriorates over time. Irrespective of tube wall thickness and elasticity, the roller imparts the same amount of stress on the tubing resulting in dosing accuracy and consistency throughout the life of the squeeze tube.
