4 Page 2 Type D800 Centrifugal Pump Temperature Limitations The maximum temperature of the liquid that can be pumped by a D-800 is dependent on the conduction of the heat along the pump / motor shaft to the bearings, design, and materials of the mechanical seal on the pump, and the characteristics of the fluid being pumped as it relates to the materials of construction. 5 Centrifugal Pumps Page 3 Type D800 Maximum Working Pressure Limitations The maximum working pressure of any pump is determined by the physical strength of the casing material, the casing thickness, and the casing bolting and gasketing. The D-800 iron casing material is the primary factor limiting working pressure. Working pressure also varies with pumping temperature. 9 Centrifugal Pumps Page 7 Type 0800 Mechanical Seals SEAT SNAP RING == SLEEVE MECHANICAL SEAL RW Operations of Mechanical Seal (Typical Crane Type 21) The rotating "seal head" is factory assembled as a single unit. It consists of a flexible synthetic rubber bellows, lapped sealing washer, retainer, driving band, land disk. The rotating sealing washer mates with a stationary floating seat. Both faces are precision lapped to prevent leakage and to eliminate break-in-runs. Positive drive within the seal head is achieved by preloading the driving (left) end of the rubber bellows against the shaft by means of a metal band so that it will rotate within the shaft. Drive is achieved by means of projections on the metals driving bank that engage slots in the retainer shell. This retainer shell in turn drives the sealing washer by means of interlocking notches. Spring pressure is transmitted to he sealing washer through the retainer, disk, and bellows flange. Accordion action of the bellows allows the seal head and washer to move freely, so that constant contact with the seat face is maintained at all times. The rotating seat is held by a synthetic rubber sealing ring, which eliminates stress distortion of the lapped face during installation and operation. 11 Centrifugal Pumps Page 9 Type 0800 General Application Information When selecting a motor the location of the pump should always be considered to insure the proper motor enclosure for the operating environment. The following enclosures are available: 1. Open Dripproof (ODP) - This enclosure is the most widely used. It is suitable for general purpose application where normal atmospheric conditions prevail. Motor frame construction and insulation protect against drips, normal dampness, and humid atmosphere. Excessive moisture or humidity require an alternate motor enclosure. 2. Totally Enclosed Fan-Cooled (TEFC) - This enclosure is primarily a chemical duty enclosure. It is recommended when the surrounding air contains light dust, metallic particles, steam, excessive dampness or humidity, and corrosive gases or fumes. Cooling is provided by means of a fan integral with the motor but external to the enclosing part. This enclosure is not suitable if particles in the surrounding air are heavy or sticky, and can clog ventilating air passages. In this case, a totally enclosed nonventilated (TENV) motor should be used. Note that, in most cases, the fractional motors are TENV as standard instead of TEFC. 3. Explosion proof, Class 1, Group D - This enclosure is recommended for particularly hazardous locations, including gasoline and petroleum handling and storage plants, dry cleaning and dyeing plants, paint and varnish factories, gas and chemical plants, etc., where the gas involved is no more dangerous than high test gasoline or lacquer solvent vapors. The enclosure is not suitable for more hazardous gases classified as group A, group B, group C. Specialized motor enclosures are available from various motor vendors. Refer to Chesapeake Marketing for any special motor requirements. Close Coupled Motors 1. Close-coupled motors offered are standard NEMA "C" face motors, which conform to the joint NEMA- Hydraulic Institute standard and which are readily available from most major motor manufacturers. The shaft extensions, "C" face and shield, and all foot dimensions are in complete conformance with NEMA standards. 2. All D-824 close-coupled pumps, with two exceptions, use the JM motor shaft extensioin. The D-824 size 4x3x9 also offers a P for higher horsepower requirements. The D inch pumps are only offered with AJ motor frames, which have an IDP proprietary shaft. 3. All D-834 vertical in-line pumps use the same motor designated JMV for vertical mounting. Test were conducted in accordance with the Standards of the Hydraulic Institute, 13th Edition, Pumps were tested in a spacious room (simulating an open filed) with driver covered by a sound absorbing enclosure and with system valves, venturi's, and tanks behind a sound absorbing wall. Decibel readings do not include driver or system noise. Pumps were tested through a normal operating range of about 75% to 125% of the best efficiency point at all impeller diameters. Note: 9-inch, 12-inch, and 15-inch pumps have not been tested. These figures should be used as estimates only. 15 Centrifugal Pumps Page 13 Type D800 D814 Single Stage, End Suction, Vertically Split Case Centrifugal Pump 1. General Furnish and install an Ingersoll-Dresser D-814 centrifugal pump for (type) service. The pump is to be cast iron construction with (bronze) (iron) (ss steel) impellers and is to be mounted on a (steel) baseplate extending under pump and (type) drive. The pump is to be coupled to the driver by means of an approved spacer-type coupling and protected by a coupling guard. 2. Operating Condition Each pump shall be capable of delivering GPM of (liquid) against feet total head. Net positive suction head available to the top of the pump foundation will be feet. The characteristics of the liquid to the pumped are as follows: Liquids Handled: Temperature: Specific Gravity: Nature of Solids Present: Percentage of Solids by Weight: Viscosity of Liquid at Pump Temperature: (Add any additional facts concerning the nature of the liquid that might affect pump construction or application.) 3. Construction Details Casing The casing shall be close grained cast iron and self venting top centerline discharge design. The casing shall be designed to permit disassembly from the rear to remove pump internals without disturbing system piping, and be supported by casing feet. A dual volute design is used on some larger sizes to reduce radial loads. Drain connections shall be supplied. Casing Nozzles Flanged and threaded casing nozzles shall conform to ANSI B16.1 specification with minimum 125 PSI rating. All flanged connections shall be flat face. Stuffing Box The stuffing box shall be one piece integral with the adapter and designed as an open seal chamber to allow maximum flushing action at the mechanical seal faces. The mechanical seal chamber shall be vented to suction pressure and sealed from discharge pressure by a replaceable wear ring. Mechanical Seal The mechanical seal shall be bellows - non-pusher type secured and positioned by a snap ring to simplify mechanical seal setting procedures. Mechanical seal rotating parts shall be stainless steel with carbon versus Ni- Resist faces and Buna- N Bellows. The mechanical seal set shall be flexibly mounted with a Viton 0 Ring. Impellers The impellers shall be of the enclosed design, statically and hydraulically balanced. The impeller shall be securely positioned on the shaft by means of an impeller key. Balance holes shall be provided through the impeller hub to minimize axial thrust loads and keep stuffing box pressures to a minimum. Shaft The pump shaft shall be high strength carbon steel sized to provide a minimum of shaft deflection. The shaft shall be designed to accommodate a replaceable shaft sleeve in the stuffing box area. Shaft Sleeve The shaft sleeve shall be fully machined and extend beyond the stuffing box. Sleeve thickness shall be no less the 3/16 inches. The sleeve shall be gasketed to prevent leakage or pumping liquid onto the shaft, and positively driven by the impeller key. Casing/ Adapter Joint The casing gasket shall be confined and positioned to protect the precise adapter to the casing registered fit and prevent pumping liquid from entering this area, corroding surfaces, and impeding the disassembly of the pump after it has been in service. Bearings The bearings shall be supported by two antifriction ball bearings located in the pump bearing frame, and of sufficient size and design to provide a two-year minimum life. Both bearings shall be sealed-for-life type, which will not require relubrication and will be adequately protected from entrance of contaminated material while operating. Baseplates The baseplates shall be of (channel steel) (fabricated with drip lip) sufficiently designed to support the pump and the driving motor. On larger sized pumps, a fabricated baseplate is the only option. Couplings The couplings shall be of the flexible spacer type to allow removal of pump internals without disconnecting motor leads or system piping. Ingersoll-Dresser Pumps Chesapeake, VA

General D824 Single Stage, End Suction, Vertically Split Case Close-Coupled Centrifugal Pump Furnish and install an Ingersoll-Dresser D-824 centrifugal pump for (type) service. The pump is to be cast iron construction, (bronze) (iron) (ss steel) fitted, and are to be close coupled to a standard NEMA C-face motor driver (JM pump shaft with two exceptions; 4x3x9 pump offers a JP shaft option, 15" pumps come with an AJ motor shaft only). 2. Operating Conditions Each pump shall be capable of delivering GPM of (liquid) against feet total head. Net positive suction ahead available to the top of the pump foundation will be feet. Motors The pump shall be supplied with a standard NEMA C-face motor with JM shaft extension on 6-inch, 8-inch, 9-inch, 10-inch, 11-inch, 12-inch and 13-inch. 17 Centrifugal Pumps Page 15 Type D800 D834 Singe Stage Vertical Inline Close Coupled Centrifugal Pump 1. General Furnish and install an Ingersoll-Dresser D-834 centrifugal pump for (type) service. The pumps are to be close coupled to a NEMA-C face motor (JMV shaft). The design shall allow for the disassembly if pump internals without disturbing piping. 2. Operating Conditions Each pump shall be capable of delivering GPM of (liquid) against feet total head. Net positive suction head available to the top of the pump foundation will be feet. The characteristics of the liquid to be pumped are as follows: Liquid Handled: Temperature: Specific Gravity: Nature of Solids by Present: Percentage of Solids by Weight: Viscosity of Liquid at Pumping Temperature: (Add any additional facts concerning the nature of the liquid that might affect pump construction or application.) 3. Construction Details Casing The casing shall be close grained cast iron with wall thickness suitable for continuous industrial duty. A drain connection must be provided at the bottom of the casing. A replaceable wearing ring shall be provided. Casing Nozzles All casing nozzles are to be flanges and conform and ANSI B16.1 specifications with a minimum 125 PSI rating. Suction and discharge nozzles are to be positioned 180 degrees apart and located on a common centerline for mounting in a pipeline. Stuffing Box The stuffing box shall be as one piece integral with the adapter and designed as an open seal chamber to allow maximum flushing action at the mechanical seal faces. The mechanical seal chamber shall be vented to suction pressure and sealed from discharge pressure by replaceable wear ring. Mechanical Seal The mechanical seal shall be bellows-non-user type secured and positioned by a snap ring to simplify mechanical seal setting procedures. Mechanical seal rotating parts shall be stainless steel with carbon versus Ni-Resist faces and Buna-N bellows. The mechanical seal seat shall be flexibly mounted with a Viton 0 ring. Alternate mechanical seal materials shall be Impeller The impellers shall be of the enclosed design, statically and hydraulically balanced. The impeller shall be securely positioned on the shaft by means of an impeller key. Balance holes shall be provided through the impeller hub to minimize axial thrust loads and keep stuffing box pressures to a minimum. Impellers shall be industrial quality cast bronze or iron and not fabricated or tack welded Shaft The integral pump/motor shaft shall be high strength carbon steel sized to provide a minimum of shaft deflection. The shaft shall be a designed to accommodate a replaceable shaft sleeve in the stuffing box area. Shaft Sleeve The shaft sleeve shall be fully machined and extend beyond the stuffing box. Sleeve thickness shall be no less that 3/16 inches. The sleeve shall be gasketed to prevent leakage or pumping liquid onto the shaft and positively driven by the impeller key. Casing/ Adapter Joint The casing gasket shall be confined and positioned to protect the casing registered fit at the adapter/ casing joint from the liquid pumped to avoid corroded surfaces and impeding the disassembly of the pump after it has been in service. The casing gasket shall be confined to prevent blowout failure. Motors The pump shall be supplied with standard vertical NEMA-C face motor with a JMV shaft extension.
