1 PRODUCT DATA SERIES 12MS PD-AL12MS-03A JANUARY 2003 HVAC ACCESSORY EQUIPMENT SERIES 12MS 12" MOISTURE SEPARATOR SECTION Moisture Separator The Series 12MS is a Moisture Separator Section designed for those applications where removal of excessive water, oil mist, fog or water-like elements from a saturated air stream is necessary. It is particularly useful in systems where saturated air is allowed to condense out, such as downstream of DX, chilled water coils, steam or mist humidifiers. How It Works... CONSTRUCTION FEATURES 16 GAUGE ALUMINIZED STEEL CONSTRUCTION FACTORY ASSEMBLED 2 LIFT-OFF ACCESS DOORS VERTICAL DRAIN SYSTEM 4" TRACK SYSTEM FOR THE CELLS DRAIN HOLES IN TRACK The housing utilizes 4" deep FILTER-LINE TM Moisture Separator Cells which capture and then separate moisture from the air stream. Applying a compact series of flat, dense, aluminum screening materials, each cell creates over 64 square feet of surface area in the 2" media pack. This enormous amount of surface area forces moisture to condense, bead and accumulate on one of the more than 2,200,000 individual filament intersects. Once collected, the accumulated moisture begins to weep or drip downward where the fluent is pooled and released through a series of drain holes that channel the moisture onto an aluminum extruded slide track. Once collected in the track, the run-off is funneled into a central vertical drain system that brings it directly to a collection pan at the base of the unit. This crossbroke drain pan has at its center and bottom a factory installed pipe coupling, easily accessible for field piping and installation, which completes the collection process in an effective and efficient manner. Rugged Construction The ACCESS-LINE Series 12MS is manufactured from 16 gauge aluminized steel and equipped with two fully gasketed, lift-off access doors to prevent air or moisture bypass. Complete with extruded aluminum tracks, drain holes, a vertical drain system and a drain pan, this section can also be fabricated from 304 stainless steel. Corporate Headquarters P.O. 2 Moisture Separator Section: Options Double Wall Insulation isolates the 12MS Section, combating vibration, noise and condensation. Weatherproof units for outside installations, Flange Adapters for all commercial and custom air handling units, Epoxy Coating and High Pressure (14 gauge aluminized) constructions are also available as needed. It is important to note that BLC highly recommends using 304 Stainless Steel construction for both Moisture Separator Sections and Cells. Stainless Steel construction ensures unit and system integrity in the most corrosive environments. EQUIPMENT OPTIONS... 4 The Moisture Separator Cells Used in conjunction with the Moisture Separator Section, the BLC FILTER-LINE Moisture Separator Cell (MSC) loads quickly and efficiently into it. Particularly convenient when accessing for cleaning, these sturdy 4" cells can either be immersed and wet soaked or pressure washed, provided they are not subjected to extraordinarily high pressure flow rates. Fabricated from 16 gauge aluminized steel, the Moisture Separator Cells are available in full (24 x 24) and half (12 x 24) nominal sizes. The 4" Moisture Separator Cell is equipped with a primary 2" moisture arrestor and a secondary 2" channel collector for the accumulating fluent. Once pooled, the water or fluid is transferred to the equipment section via a series of drain holes that channel the moisture. PERFORMANCE DATA When operated at 500, the MSC is over 99% efficient on droplet sizes of 20 microns or greater. The cell is 91% efficient on droplet sizes of 10 microns or larger, and 58% effective on moistures sized at 4 microns or bigger. Within that time, any defective part will be replaced on a NO CHARGE basis. Provided the defective part is returned to the factory (freight prepaid by the customer). Replacement parts are F.O.B. 6 MECHANICAL SPECIFICATIONS - MOISTURE SEPARATOR SECTIONS STANDARD UNIT CONSTRUCTION Material of Construction Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be manufactured of 16 gauge aluminized steel. All fasteners shall be corrosion resistant finish. Track System Moisture Separator Section s filter track shall be manufactured from aluminum extrusion and allow for 4 inch nominal Moisture Separator Cell installation. Each track shall seal the cell(s) at top and bottom by use of fin-seal gasket. The track shall be sealed at its ends by use of EPDM gasket. Vertical Drain System Moisture Separator Section(s) are provided with drain connections of 1/2 inch IPS coupling(s) in the bottom drain pan of the section. Internal drain tubes are provided in sections more than one cell high and are completely factory assembled. Drain quantities: unit widths of 01-04, one (1) drain; unit widths of 05-08, two (2) drains; unit widths of 09 and 10, three (3) drains. Operating Static Pressure Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be capable of operating at static pressures of up to 3" W.G. (positive/negative). Access Door(s) Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with pan-type, crossbroke door panel(s) with over-center, positive lock latches. Door(s) shall be sealed at perimeter with EPDM gasket. Door(s) shall be provided with replaceable liftoff hinges. One (1) door or two (2) doors construction per customer specification. Assembly Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be completely factory assembled with 1 1/2 inch mounting flanges provided for field installation. UNIT OPTIONS Double Wall Insulation Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with 1 inch thick double wall insulation in 24 gauge aluminized steel panels. Panel location: interior of door panels, exterior of top/bottom panels and end panel of 1 door units. Insulation may be 1.5 or 3.0 pound density. Weatherproofing Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with 16 gauge aluminized steel pitched rain roof. All seams shall be sealed using a high viscosity, permanent sealer (non-silicon). High Pressure Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided to meet operating static pressure of 10" W.G. (positive/negative). Door(s) are provided with full length piano hinges welded in place. Consult factory for other high pressure applications. Mounting Flange Adapters Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with 16 gauge aluminized steel flat adapter flange to match customer equipment/specifications. Flanges may be single-air entering, single-air leaving or double-air entering and air leaving per customer requirements. Support Legs Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with 12 gauge aluminized steel support legs. Maximum height of 5 inches from bottom of flange to floorline. Quantity of support legs: wide, 2 support legs; wide, 3 support legs; wide, 4 support legs. For other applications, consult factory. Hanger Brackets Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with 12 gauge aluminized steel hanger brackets welded to the top panel. Location may be: one (1) pair of brackets-air entering/top corners or one (1) pair of brackets-air leaving/top corners. A 5/8 inch diameter hole is provided for hanger rod. Hanger brackets are for support of the cell section only. Any other equipment or duct connections must be supported independently. Static Taps Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be provided with static pressure fittings for 1/4 inch metal tube connection. Tap location no. 1: before Moisture Separator Cell. Tap location no. 2 : after Moisture Separator Cell. Alternate Material of Construction Moisture Separator Section(s) shall be manufactured of stainless steel (type 304 or 316). Air dried epoxy coated section(s) may be provided, either coated: interior-only, exterior-only, or both interior and exterior.

Separate all cartons marked Filters from material received. Store Filters in clean, dry place until system is ready to be operated. DO NOT OPEN CARTONS AT THIS TIME. Distribute filter units as required to system locations. (See markings on each housing.) Carefully uncrate filter housings. Systems must allow for proper access to filters for routine servicing. General rule is to use housing depth. System must provide for firm, level and plumb installation for filter housing. DO NOT DISTORT FILTER HOUSING. INSTALLATION OF FILTER HOUSING A. B. C. Installation of housing can be attained by anchoring duct work to and from housing flange. Housing flange(s) should be caulked to deter air by-pass. Housing is supplied with an air flow label to ensure proper orientation. Connection to 1/2 IPS drain(s) from bottom pan to be made at this time. FILTER INSTALLATION A. B. C. D. Open access door. Slide appropriate filter into housing tracks. Quantities and Model Numbers of filters are listed on unit ID nameplate. Secure access door. The use of a manometer is recommended to check pressure drop of final filter for determining when renewal of filter should be made. CAREFULLY REVIEW ABOVE INSTRUCTIONS. CLEANING/MAINTENANCE OF MOISTURE SEPARATOR CELLS A. B. C. D. E. Remove Filter(s) from unit. Wash with hot soapy water, rinse and flush with clean water. Can be steam cleaned. Remove excess water by blowing out with air hose if necessary. Replace filter(s) in unit.
