2 THE SYSTEM This Dorset dryer can be used to dry various kinds of biomass from around 25% DM to 85-90% DM through an evaporation process. The conveyor belt of the DORSET Piccolo dryer consists of perforated stainless steel plates. This system allows for a large layer thickness, which results in a high drying efficiency and a compact dryer. The steel plates are pulled around by a roller chain. Dispensing starts on the belt, after which the product is transported to the dryer via the conveyor. During this process, warm air is pulled through the dryer. A dosing belt delivers the product carefully on the smooth perforated plates. At the end of the belt, the product will be taken out by a transport belt, and can be transported to the storage area. However drying 24/7, the dryer mechanically operates discontinue. After sensors detect that the product is dry at the end of the conveyor belt, a programmed amount of plates will be emptied and at the same time the dosing screw fills the conveyor belt with new wet product. The ventilators and air cleaner are running continuously. The hot air through the dryer is generated by heat exchangers, using the heat from a heat source of hot water. The drying installation includes an air cleaning system for cleaning the outgoing air of ammonia, dust and odour. EXPANSION It is possible to expand the dryer to a length of 24 meters with a 6-compartments air cleaning system. This would be sufficient for.500 to.800 kwth heat use.
