6 ARCHITECTURAL APPEAL Convergence of Technological Innovation with Flexibility and Style Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual Benefits of Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Syste Available in 9,,,, 5,, 8,, and, Btu/h Inverter technology All-season use - heat pup odels for both cooling and heating capabilities Operating range for outdoor units of F to 8 F (DB) in cooling and - F to 5 F (WB) in heating Operating range for indoor units of 5 F to 75 F (WB) in cooling and F to 8 F (DB) in heating Quiet operation inside and outside Duct-free split syste Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Systes Choosing an LG Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier product provides a syste designer an edge to engineer a syste with individual control, and design flexibility with advanced controls. These single-zone systes are available in a noinal capacities of / to tons. These are best suited for applications with zones that require heating or cooling, such as residential, and sall business office buildings. Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier outdoor and indoor units are available in 8 V/Hz/Ph. Adaptable and Flexible Single zone wall ounted split systes allow cooling or heating for the entire residence or just a single roo without the need for invasive ductwork. There is inial renovation needed. Long refrigerant piping lengths allow for extra design flexibility in indoor unit installation. These units ay be used for a nuber of residential or coercial environents such as: Older hoes New hoe construction Office buildings Restaurants Hospitals / Medical facilities Schools Nursing hoes Retail establishents House of worship Inverter Technology Inverter variable-speed duct-free split systes are easurably quieter and consue less energy than conventional air conditioners. The inverter copressor raps up or down to atch the required roo capacity and aintain the cofort level. When the selected teperature is reached, the inverter copressor operates at low speed to aintain that cofort level, thereby using less energy. INTRODUCTION

8 PRODUCT FEATURES AND BENEFITS Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Single zone systes are equipped with inverter coponents that offer superior load atching and long piping installation. The product works for optiizing power consuption in residential and sall office buildings. Utilizing ultiple indoor wall ount units each with custo teperature controls allow for precise teperature settings in each zone of the building. Single zone systes allow flexibility in interior design and copleent any decor. Low Sound Levels When outdoor units run at full load, they have a quiet operating sound level. To proote a quiet, cofortable environent, the LG single zone syste indoor units operate at sound levels as low as 5 db(a) (7 db(a) in sleep ode) and the outdoor units as low as 5 db(a) at full load. All rotating coponents are soft-started by the controller using digitally controlled inverters, which reduce undesirable noise caused by fans and copressors cycling on and off. Cofort Control at Its Best Unlike traditional air conditioning control systes, which use therostatic controls to aintain roo teperatures, LG single zone inverter controls continuously vary the indoor unit fan speed and refrigerant flow. LG single zone one-to-one systes continuously easure the roo teperatures and adjust syste operations accordingly to aintain set teperature. The outdoor unit responds by varying the copressor speed and outdoor fan otors as needed to aintain syste operating pressure. As a result, the single zone systes deliver targeted space teperature control. Inverter Driven The twin rotary copressors are optiized to axiize copressor efficiency, which reduces power consuption and onthly utility bills. This latest inverter technology allows single zone syste outdoor units to vary the copressor otor shaft speed to deliver an appropriate aount of cooling to the indoor unit. Precise refrigerant volue delivery translates into long periods with coil surface teperatures below dew point and iniizes copressor and fan coponent run tie which ay lead to lower utility usage. Siplified Installation Cooling and heating applications that use single zone systes siplify and reduce the echanical and control syste design tie. The designer no longer has to be concerned with interconnecting chilled and condenser water piping, air-distribution duct systes, atching and selecting chillers, towers, pups, coils, fans, air handlers, or Variable Air Volue (VAV) boxes. Operating Range Single zone systes have a noinal capacity range of / to tons (depending on outdoor/indoor units). Outdoor unit operating ranges for single zone systes: Cooling: F DB to 8 F DB Heating: - F WB to 5 F WB (Installing an optional Low Abient Wind Baffle Kit will allow operation down to F in cooling ode for these single zone systes.) Copact Size Single zone outdoor units have the following footprint: LAU9HYV, LAUHYV: (WxHxD [in.]) -5/ x -/ x -5/. LAU5HYV, LAU8HYV (WxHxD [in]) -/ x -/ x -5/8. LAU8HYV, LAUHYV (WxHxD [in]) -/ x -/ x -5/8. Fin Design with Gold- Fin Coating All single zone outdoor units are provided with large surface coils ade of copper tubes with louvered aluinu fins designed to axiize unit operating efficiency over a wide range of abient conditions. Standard fro the factory, every single zone outdoor unit coil fin surface is coated with LG s exclusive GoldFin anti-corrosive coating designed to prevent natural surface corrosion of the aluinu fins. This aintains heat transfer properties of the coil for an extended tie. A hydrophilic coating is applied to the outdoor unit coil fin surface over the GoldFin coating. This coating enhances the developent of heavier water droplets gathering on the fin surface. As a result, the droplets roll off the fin surfaces, delaying the point when frost fors on the coil surface during heating operation. This coating also akes it possible to easily clean the outdoor unit coil using a ild soap. 49 BUILDING VENTILATION DESIGN GUIDE Building Ventilation Design Guide ASHRAE. and local codes specify the iniu volue of outdoor air that ust be provided to an occupied space. Outdoor air is required to iniize adverse health effects, and it provides acceptable indoor air quality for building occupants. The three ethods of accoplishing this with single zone systes are suarized here. Although we believe that these building ventilation ethods have been portrayed accurately, none of the ethods have been tested, verified, or evaluated by LG Electronics, U.S.A., Inc., In all cases, the designer, installer, and contractor should understand if the suggested ethod is used, it is used at their own risk. LG Electronics U.S.A., Inc., takes no responsibility and offers no warranty, expressed or iplied, in law or in fact, including but not liited to any iplied warranty of erchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. For a coplete copy of Standard.-, refer to the Aerican Standard of Heating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) website at For ore inforation on how to properly size a ventilation air pretreatent syste, refer to the article, Selecting DOAS Equipent with Reserve Capacity by John Murphy, published in the ASHRAE Journal, April. Method : Decoupled Dedicated Outdoor Air Syste (DDOAS) Provide a separate, dedicated outdoor-air syste designed to filter, condition, and dehuidify ventilation air and deliver it directly to the conditioned space through a separate register or grille. This approach requires a separate independent ventilation duct syste not associated with single zone systes. LG recoends using the DDOAS ethod in all installations. Advantages May be used with single zone systes. The outdoor air unit ay supply neutral air to the occupant space even when the single zone syste indoor unit fan changes speed or cycles on and off. DDOAS controls do not have to be interlocked with the single zone syste. In lieu of installing localized saller outside air treatent equipent throughout the building, this ethod centralizes the ventilation air source aking service and filter changes easier and less disruptive for the building occupants. Third-party deand control ventilation controls are ore readily accoodated. Disadvantages Ceiling space is required to accoodate ductwork between the centralized outdoor air unit and ceiling diffusers. Methodology illustrations are for exaples only and do not depict actual indoor units for the specific outdoor unit pairing. These are generic illustrations to show ventilation design only. 50 BUILDING VENTILATION DESIGN GUIDE Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual Method : Unconditioned Outdoor Air (Non-Ducted, Natural Ventilation) Natural ventilation devices, such as operable windows or louvers ay be used to ventilate the building when local code perits. The open area of a window or the free area of a louver ust eet the iniu percentage of the net occupied floor area. Advantages Occupants control the volue of the ventilation air anually. Useful for historic buildings that have no ceiling space available for outdoor air ductwork. May be used with single zone systes. Figure 9: Unconditioned Outdoor Air (Non-Ducted) Disadvantages In soe locations, it ay be difficult to control huidity levels when windows are open. Theral cofort levels ay be substandard when windows are open. Indoor units ay have to be oversized to account for the added heating and cooling loads when windows are open. Provides outdoor air to perieter spaces only. Additional echanical ventilation syste ay be required to satisfy requireents for interior spaces. Outdoor air loads ay be difficult to calculate since the quantity of outdoor air is not regulated. May affect indoor unit proper operation when open. Method : Unconditioned Outdoor Air (Non-Ducted, Fan Assisted Ventilation) When approved by local codes, the fan assisted ventilation ethod uses exhaust fans to reove air fro the building, and outdoor air is drawn into occupied spaces through a wall louver or gravity roof intake hood. Supply fans can also be used to push the outdoor air into the space and building positive pressure will vent the exhaust air through louvers or roof-ounted exhaust hoods. Outdoor air is neither cooled nor heated before entering the building. This ay result in loss of building pressurization control, increasing infiltration loads with adverse effects. Advantages Outdoor air ay be anually controlled by the occupant or autoatic controls ay be installed to open/close outdoor air dapers or to turn on/off ventilation fans. Useful for large open spaces like warehouses, garages, and workshops. Outdoor air volue is a known quantity. Air loads ay be easier to calculate since fans will regulate the aount of outdoor air. May be used with single zone systes. Methodology illustrations are for exaples only and do not depict actual indoor units for the specific outdoor unit pairing. These are generic illustrations to show ventilation design only. Methodology illustrations are for exaples only and do not depict actual indoor units for the specific outdoor unit pairing. These are generic illustrations to show ventilation design only. Disadvantages In soe locations of the country, it ay be difficult to control huidity levels while outdoor air louvers/hoods are opened. Theral cofort levels ay be substandard when louvers/hoods are opened. Indoor units ay have to be oversized to account for the added heating/cooling loads when louvers/hoods are open. Hot, cold, and/or huid areas ay be present if the outdoor air is not evenly distributed to the different spaces. Figure : Unconditioned Outdoor Air Fan Assisted Ventilation. 51 PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS Selecting the Best Location DANGER To avoid the possibility of fire, do not install the unit in an area where cobustible gas ay generate, flow, stagnate, or leak. Failure to do so will cause serious bodily injury or death. Install a fence to prevent verin fro crawling into the unit or unauthorized individuals fro accessing it. where acidic solution and spray (sulfur) are often used as this ay cause serious bodily injury or death. where oil, stea, or sulfuric gas are present as this ay cause serious bodily injury or death. Do not install the unit in a location Do not use the unit in environents Select a location for installing the outdoor unit that will eet the following conditions: Where there is enough strength to bear the weight of the unit. Include space for drainage to ensure condensate flows properly out of the unit when it is in heating ode. Include enough space for air flow and for service access. Dont's Where the unit will be subjected to direct theral radiation fro other heat sources. Where operating sound fro the unit will disturb inhabitants of surrounding buildings. Where the unit will be exposed to direct, strong winds. To ensure the outdoor unit operates properly, certain easures are required in locations where there is a possibility of heavy snowfall or severe wind chill or cold:. Prepare for severe winter wind chills and heavy snowfall, even in areas of the country where these are unusual phenoena.. Position the outdoor unit so that its airflow fans are not buried by direct, heavy snowfall. If snow piles up and blocks the airflow, the syste ay alfunction.. Reove any snow that has accuulated by inches or ore on the top of the outdoor unit.. Place the outdoor unit on a raised platfor at least inches higher than the average annual snowfall for the area. In environents where there is a possibility of heavy snow, the frae height ust be ore than two () ties the aount of average annual snowfall, and should not exceed the width of the outdoor unit. If the frae width is wider than the outdoor unit, snow ay accuulate. 5. Install a snow protection hood.. To prevent snow and heavy rain fro entering the outdoor unit, install the suction and discharge ducts facing away fro direct winds. 7. Additionally, the following conditions should be taken into consideration when the unit operates in defrost ode: If the outdoor unit is installed in a highly huid environent (near an ocean, lake, etc.), ensure that the site is well-ventilated and has a lot of natural light. (Exaple: Install on a rooftop.) Sidewalks or parking lots near the outdoor unit ay accuulate oisture after unit operates in defrost ode that can turn to ice. Application Guidelines The indoor unit ay take longer to provide heat, or heating perforance will be reduced in winter if the unit is installed:. In a narrow, shady location.. Near a location that has a lot of ground oisture.. In a highly huid environent.. In an area in which condensate does not drain properly. Abient Air Conditions Avoid exposing the unit to discharge fro boiler stacks, chineys, stea relief ports, other air conditioning units, kitchen vents, plubing vents, or substances that ay degrade perforance or cause daage to the unit. When installing ultiple outdoor units, avoid placing the units where discharge of one outdoor unit will blow into the inlet side of an adjacent unit. Avoid exposing the unit to sources of extree teperature or gases to prevent serious bodily injury. APPLICATION GUIDELINES 5

52 PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS Indoor Unit Clearance/Outdoor Unit Installation Indoor Unit Best Location Figure : Single Zone Indoor Unit Clearance Requireents. Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual Follow recoended best practices when choosing an indoor location for the single zone indoor unit. Use a etal detector to locate studs in the walls. Anchor unit following stud location, to prevent daage to the wall. Clearance gap between any wall or enclosure and the left or right side of the unit ust be greater than inches. Miniu clearance of the indoor unit fro its top to the ceiling is 5 inches. Unit should be at least.5 feet fro the floor for adequate clearance. Keep unit away fro any indoor stea or excessive heat. No obstacles should be placed around unit. Condensation drain (leakage piping) should be routed away fro the unit. Do not install near doorway. General Mounting for Outdoor Units Securely attach the outdoor unit to a condenser pad, base rails, or another ounting platfor that is securely anchored to the ground or building structure. Attach the outdoor unit with a bolt and nut on a concrete or rigid ount. Refer to the applicable installation anual and follow applicable local codes for clearance, ounting, anchor and vibration attenuation requireents. All referenced aterials are to be field-supplied. Iages are not to scale. Mounting Platfor The underlying structure or foundation ust be designed to support the weight of the unit. Avoid placing the unit in a low lying area where water ay accuulate. When installing the outdoor unit on the wal, or roof top, anchor the ounting base securely to account for wind, earthquake or vibration. Tie-Downs and Wind Restraints The strength of the Single Zone syste frae is adequate to be used with field-provided wind restraint tie-downs. The overall tie-down configuration ust be approved by a local professional engineer. 5 APPLICATION GUIDELINES Figure : Outdoor Unit Mounting Methods. Bolt Placeent & Anti-Vibration Pad Foundation Top of Unit More than 5 inches Piping Connection Always refer to local code when designing a wind restraint syste. Snow and Ice Conditions In cliates that experience snow build-up, place the unit on a raised platfor to ensure condenser airflow. The raised support platfor ust be high enough to allow the unit to reain above possible snow drifts. Mount the unit on a field-provided snow stand at a iniu height that is equal to the average annual snowfall plus inches. Design the ounting base to prevent snow accuulation on the platfor in front or back of the unit case. If necessary, provide a field fabricated hood to keep snow and ice and/or drifting snow fro accuulating on the coil surfaces. Use inlet and discharge duct or hoods to prevent snow or rain fro accuulating on the fan inlet and outlet guards. Best practice prevents snow fro accuulating on top of the unit. Consider tie-down requireents in case of high winds or where required by local codes. More than inches At least.5 feet fro the floor CAUTION When deciding on a location to place the outdoor unit, be sure to choose an area where run-off fro defrost will not accuulate and freeze on sidewalks or driveways which ay create unsafe conditions. More than inches If the outdoor unit is installed between standard and iniu clearances, capacity decreases approxiately to %.

53 PLACEMENT CONSIDERATIONS Outdoor Unit Clearances Miniu Clearance Requireents for Single Zone Art Cool Preier Systes Proper clearance for the outdoor unit coil is critical for proper unit operation. When installing the outdoor unit, consider service, inlet and outlet and iniu allowable space requireents as illustrated in the diagras below. Specific clearance requireents in the diagra below are for the Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier systes. Figure shows the overall iniu clearances that ust be observed for safe operation and adequate airflow around the outdoor unit. When placing the outdoor unit under an overhang, awning, sunroof or other roof-like structure, observe the clearance requireents (as shown in Cases and in Figure ) for height in relation to the unit. This clearance ensures that heat radiation fro the condenser is not restricted around the unit. Adhere to all clearance requireents if installing the unit on a roof. Be sure to level the unit and ensure that the unit is adequately anchored. Consult local codes for rooftop ounting requireents. In order to have successful service access to the outdoor unit, see Figure for iniu spacing. When installing ultiple outdoor units, see Cases and 5 in Figure for correct spacing requireents. Draft a one-line diagra of the proposed piping syste connecting outdoor unit to indoor units. Follow the pipe liitations listed on the previous page.. Calculate the physical length of each pipe segent and note it on the drawing.. Calculate the equivalent pipe length of each pipe segent. Using Elbows Field-supplied elbows are allowed as long as they are long radius and designed for use with RA refrigerant. The designer should be cautious with the quantity and size of fittings used, and ust account for the additional pressure losses in equivalent pipe length calculation. The equivalent pipe length of each elbow ust be added to each pipe segent. See the table for equivalent lengths. R L Table : Equivalent Piping Length for Piping Coponents. 57 INSTALLATION & LAYOUT BEST PRACTICES Refrigerant Piping Syste Layout Field-Provided Isolation Ball Valves LG aintains a neutral position on using isolation valves in refrigerant piping systes. LG does not endorse any anufacturer of isolation valves. It is recognized that installing isolation valves ay siplify future aintenance requireents, and, if used, considerations should be taken including, but not liited to, the following: Pressure drops for any coponent used, including isolation valves, ust be known in equivalent pipe length and calculated into the total and segent equivalent piping lengths and copared to product design liitations. In all cases, aterials ust be suitable for the application and any applicable codes, including, but not liited to, diaeter and wall thickness continuity per ACR standards. Failure to do so ay cause significant perforance degradation. Proper leak checks ust be perfored. Using isolation valves does not autoatically void any LG product warranty, however, a liited warranty ay be voided in whole or part should any field supplied accessory fail in any way that causes product failure. Obstacles When an obstacle, such as an I-bea or concrete T, is in the path of the planned refrigerant pipe run, it is best practice to route the pipe over the obstacle. If adequate space is not available to route the insulated pipe over the obstacle, then route the pipe under the obstacle. In either case, it is iperative the horizontal section of pipe above or below the obstacle be a iniu of three () ties greater than the longest vertical rise (or fall) distance. In-line Refrigeration Coponents Coponents such as oil traps, solenoid valves, filter-dryers, sight glasses, tee fittings, and other after-arket accessories are not peritted on the refrigerant piping syste between the outdoor unit and the indoor unit. Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier air-source systes are provided with redundant systes that ensure oil is properly returned to the copressor. Sight-glasses and solenoid valves ay cause vapor to for in the liquid strea. Over tie, dryers ay deteriorate and introduce debris into the syste. The designer and installer verify the refrigerant piping syste is free of traps, sagging pipes, sight glasses, filter dryers, etc. No Pipe Size Substitutions Using a different size is prohibited and ay result in a syste alfunction or failure to work at all. Pipe Supports A properly installed pipe syste should be adequately supported to avoid pipe sagging. Sagging pipes becoe oil traps that lead to equipent alfunction. Pipe supports should never touch the pipe wall; supports shall be installed outside (around) the priary pipe insulation jacket. Insulate the pipe first because pipe supports shall be installed outside (around) the priary pipe insulation jacket. Clevis hangers should be used with shields between the hangers and insulation. Field provided pipe supports ust eet local codes. If allowed by code, use fiber straps or split-ring hangers suspended fro the ceiling on all-thread rods (fiber straps or split ring hangers can be used as long as they do not copress the pipe insulation). Place a second layer of insulation over the pipe insulation jacket to prevent chafing and copression of the priary insulation within the confines of the support pipe clap. A properly installed pipe syste will have sufficient supports to avoid pipes fro sagging during the life of the syste. As necessary, place supports closer for segents where potential sagging could occur. Maxiu spacing of pipe supports ust eet local codes. If local codes do not specify pipe support spacing, pipe ust be supported: Maxiu of five feet (5 ) on center for straight segents of pipe up to /" outside diaeter size. Wherever the pipe changes direction, place a hanger within twelve () inches on one side and within twelve to nineteen ( to 9) inches of the bend on the other side as shown. 58 INSTALLATION & LAYOUT BEST PRACTICES Refrigerant Piping Syste Layout Pipe Sleeves at Penetrations LG requires that all pipe penetrations through walls, floors, and pipes buried underground be properly insulated and routed through an appropriate wall sleeve of sufficient size to prevent copression of refrigerant pipe insulation and free oveent of the pipe within the sleeve. Underground refrigerant pipe shall be routed inside a protective sleeve to prevent insulation deterioration See figure below. Figure : Pipe Sleeve Options. Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual Diaeter of penetrations shall be deterined by pipe diaeter plus the thickness of the insulation. Underground Refrigerant Piping Refrigerant pipe installed underground should be routed inside a vapor tight protective sleeve to prevent insulation deterioration and water infiltration. Refrigerant pipe installed inside underground casing ust be continuous without any joints. Underground refrigerant pipe ust be located at a level below the frost line. 60 INSTALLATION & LAYOUT BEST PRACTICES Refrigerant Piping Syste Layout Refrigerant Piping / Brazing Practices Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier Engineering Manual It is iperative to keep the piping syste free of containants and debris such as copper burrs, slag, or carbon dust during installation. All joints are brazed in the field. Single Zone Wall Mounted Art Cool Preier refrigeration syste coponents contain very sall capillary tubes, sall orifices, electronic expansion valves, oil separators, and heat exchangers that can easily becoe blocked. Proper syste operation depends on the installer using best practices and utost care while assebling the piping syste. While brazing, use a dry nitrogen purge operating at a iniu pressure of three () psig and aintain a steady flow. Blow clean all pipe sections with dry nitrogen prior to assebly. Use a tubing cutter, do not use a saw to cut pipe. De-burr and clean all cuts Figure 7: Refrigerant Pipe Brazing. Refrigerant Piping Pipe to be brazed Nitrogen Taping Pressure-reducing Valve before assebly. Store pipe stock in a dry place. Keep pipe capped and clean. Use adapters to asseble different sizes of pipe. Do not use flux, soft solder, or anti-oxidant agents. Use a 5% silver phosphorous copper brazing alloy to avoid overheating and produce good flow. Protect isolation valves, electronic expansion valves, and other heat-sensitive control coponents fro excessive heat with a wet rag or a heat barrier spray product. Refrigerant Piping Syste Insulation All refrigerant piping, field-provided isolation ball valves, service valves, and long radius elbows shall be copletely insulated using closed cell pipe insulation. The liquid and vapor lines ust be insulated separately. To prevent heat loss/heat gain through the refrigerant piping, all refrigerant piping including liquid lines and vapor lines shall be insulated separately. Insulation shall be a iniu / thick, and thickness ay need to be increased based on abient conditions and local codes. All insulation joints shall be glued with no air gaps. Insulation aterial ust fit snugly against the refrigeration pipe with no air space between it and the pipe. Insulation passing through pipe hangers, inside conduit, and/or sleeves ust not be copressed. Protect insulation inside hangers and supports with a second layer. All pipe insulation exposed to the sun and outdoor eleents shall be properly protected with PVC, aluinu vapor barrier, or alternatively placed in a weather-resistant enclosure such as a pipe rack with a top cover, and eet local codes. The design engineer should perfor calculations to deterine if the factory-supplied insulation jackets are sufficient to eet local codes and avoid sweating. Add additional insulation if necessary. Mark all pipes at the point where the insulation jacket ends. Reove the jacket. Install field-provided insulation on the run-out and ain truck pipes first. Peel the adhesive glue protector slip fro the insulation jacket and install the cla-shell jacket over the fitting. Charging Each outdoor unit is factory charged (naeplate charge) for the evaporator as well as a standard foot (9k, k HYV ) or 5 foot (5k, 8k HYV; 8k, k HYV) line. Any tie a line set is used longer then the standard line set length, the refrigerant charge has to be adjusted. You ust adjust the charge based on how any feet of piping are added based on. or.8 oz. of RA per foot. The factory charge accoodates pipe lengths up to the standard length without requiring refrigerant reoval. Table 7: Charging Capacity.
