2 Press release Hermsdorf, 08 July 2014 Joint knowledge combined for corrosion protection: CERA SYSTEM and Pfeiffer Chemie-Armaturen develop innovative ball valve, based in the Thuringian Hermsdorf, is with immediate effect manufacturing a wear resistant version of the standardised ball valve made by the company Pfeiffer Chemie-Armaturen GmbH from Kempen. The ball valve BR26 is provided with ceramic seats and a ceramic ball by CERA and is now protected even more from abrasion and corrosion. The ball valve needs to be replaced less often, which decreases the standstill time of plants and the number of production losses resulting costs are significantly minimised thereby. Many industrial companies typically use the products of the two German companies. "With the modification of the ball valve, new applications with abrasive media become accessible, which are diversely used in the chemical industry, in particular," says Heinz Albert, Technical Director at CERA SYSTEM Verschleißschutz GmbH. "The application of the ball valve BR 26 is particularly recommendable for companies, which are active in the areas biomass, steam and condensate as well as pneumatic transport." The ceramic seal completely blocks off contaminated media, soft seals in the media flow are now part of the past. 4 Press release Hermsdorf, 08 July 2014 For more movement in pneumatic conveying systems: CERA SYSTEM scores with geometrically optimised conveying nozzles For years, the ceramics specialist from Hermsdorf near Jena has specialised on the design and manufacturing of controllable and non-adjustable conveying nozzles for plant engineering. Now, the CERA engineers have developed geometrically optimised conveying nozzles, which can be used in many areas. The show-stopper: The new conveying nozzles can be used both as suction conveying nozzle and as intermediate conveying nozzle in pressure conveying systems. This is made possible due to the design of the annular gap nozzle, which is used wherever pneumatic conveying systems are operated. The conveying nozzle puts the medium into motion and maintains it. The lining of the new conveying nozzle consists of the usual high quality and low-wear ceramic, depending on the material to be conveyed it is either aluminium oxide or silicon carbide. The advantages are obvious, according to the Technical Director at CERA SYSTEM, Heinz Albert: "The ceramic lining is particularly suitable when the conveyed material causes strong wear. Thanks to their good mechanical characteristics the ceramic materials protect the nozzle from wear and thus increase the durability." The conveying nozzles are available in the sizes DN 25 to DN 150 and can depending on the size suck in 2.5 to 32 m 3 / min air. The air consumption lies accordingly at 0.5 to 8 Nm 3 / min. 6 Press release Hermsdorf, 08 July 2014 Sedimentation of particles with ceramic hydrocyclones: New wear resistant hydrocyclones by CERA SYSTEM make this possible The Thuringian ceramics specialist now also develops hydrocyclones in mineral composite, aluminium oxide, silicon carbide and silicon nitride. The cyclones are suitable for separating solids and liquids whose particles do not mix or do not dissolve in the carrier medium. This is particularly significant for industries working with slurries. As part of the process the material mixture is fed into the cyclone head via an inlet nozzle, which creates a rotating flow. This has an extremely high centrifugal force, which may be larger than gravity. To that effect strong frictional and abrasive forces exist, which clog the cyclone wall. "Many of our customers have systems for separating particles a logical conclusion from this was to also use ceramic materials there. These are particularly effective and are also suitable for applications at high temperatures," says Heinz Albert, Technical Director of, describing the development idea for the low-wear hydrocyclones in mineral composite. 7 Hydrocyclone In order to protect the ceramic components even more from mechanical damage, these are designed in metal housings or wrapped with glass fibre reinforced plastic. This allows pipeline and pressure forces to be absorbed and for heat to be insulated. The use of cyclones is particularly beneficial, if the particles are to be separated between 0.5 mm and 5µm. The time efficiency is noteworthy: Cyclones can at accordingly high rotation speed separate the particles up to 1,000 times faster than with the gravimetric sedimentation process. Coarser particles over 0.5 mm can generally be separated more simply, using sedimentation tanks. But also particles under 5µm can be separated in special hydrocyclones with a very small diameter. It is possible to connect the cyclones by CERA SYSTEM together in a ring battery or in a multi cyclone system; this increases the throughput capacity. Customers, who desire a higher degree of separation, but also the separation of finer particles, can simply connect the cyclones into series. The use of such piping predominantly occurs in industries which pneumatically transport electrostatically charged materials. CERA SYSTEM thereby makes a valuable contribution to the topic occupational and workplace safety. Especially glass fibre reinforced plastics granulates can establish enormous loads, which can quickly lead to undesired lightning discharges. The reason lies in the ceramic lining of most pipe parts: it is electrically insulating. CERA SYSTEM faces this problem with the use of electrically conductible ceramic as well as with contact adhesive strips and earthing straps, which are applied to ceramic surface. The in this fashion electrically connected ceramic is wrapped in conductible glass fibre reinforced plastic or cemented in a steel shell. It should be noted here: If the ceramic is incorporated into a steel shell, the earthing conductor must be electrically connected to the steel shell or be appropriately led out of the shell. If the earthing straps are welded onto the steel shells, they can be connected to an appropriate earthing system.
