The HANSAPROTEC system is another major factor in preserving water quality: On all washbasin models equipped with this system, the brass components which come into contact with drinking water have a minimal lead content of less than 0.3 % and are free of nickel coating. This means HANSA products are well within the limits stipulated by the standard! 4

The HANSAMEDIPRO series is ideal for use in hospitals and care facilities, as well as in barrier-free bathroom installations such as in supervised residential facilities. Developed in line with the latest findings in gerontology, the HANSAMEDIPRO features outstanding levels of safety and user-friendliness: Distinctive function labelling and the high body design enhance user-friendliness, while features such as soft ends and edge radii and hot water stop ensure safety in daily use. The safety lever mixer additionally provides protection against scalding. Even if the last setting was hot, it allows only cold water to flow the next time the fitting is turned on. Germ contamination is minimised by limiting rims where dirt can collect, such as by means of levers with no cut-in sections. It is not without reason that many standards and guidelines recommend or even stipulate thermostats, such as the VDI 6000 and the guidelines of the Bundesverband der Unfallkassen, or German Accident Insurance Association. Using our ergonomic operating elements, you can select the temperature, turn it up, and enjoy the water without worrying about nasty surprises. Thermostats reach the selected temperature very quickly and retain it exactly. So as well as reassuring safety you can also enjoy unbeatable comfort. 35 Top comfort and convenience: thermal disinfection is activated on the side of the thermostat, without removing the handle. The 38 C safety stop offers ideal protection against scalding. PERFECT SAFETY HANSA thermostats provide maximum protection against scalding. The integrated 38 C safety stop can only be overridden by pressing a button. If required, this option can be blocked on most models. Pressure loss, such as that experienced during consumptions peaks, will no longer affect your water temperature, while unpleasant cold bursts and dangerous onslaughts of heat are prevented. You no longer need to readjust when pressure varies, and if the cold water supply shuts off completely then the hot water is stopped immediately as well. 35

36 THE MATERIAL MAKES THE DIFFERENCE: MS 63. Brass or more precisely copper-zinc alloy has proven itself millions of times over and for many decades in the production of sanitary fittings. But the brass alloy most commonly used has one weakness: it can cause an accumulation of metal in the water, and it can corrode. That is why at HANSA, we use a special variation for the production of fittings: a low dezincification brass alloy called MS 63. This material is much more resistant against corrosion than common brass alloys, easily fulfilling quality regulations and satisfying the German Drinking Water Ordinance. Our material conforms to the 4MS UBA list. Not just clean, but also safe: HANSA fittings feature scald protection. This makes them convenient and safe to use. HANSA thermostats also enable thermal disinfection as a measure to counter legionella, something which is stipulated in some public buildings. EFFECTIVE SCALD PROTECTION The VDI 6000 standard recommends thermostats at washbasins in nursing homes and childcare institutions. Scald protection is considered important. The German Accident Insurance Association stipulates that the temperature should be limited at outlet points accessible to children (Guidelines for Kindergartens), and this applies especially to washbasins. Existing installations here e.g. with the cold water valve HANSANOVA STYLE can be upgraded quickly and easily. HANSAMINIMAT is fitted directly to the angle valve. The temperature is pre-set to 39 C at the factory and can easily be adjusted as necessary. Effective protection against scalding: If the cold water cuts out, the hot water inlet is closed immediately. The HANSAMINIMAT mixes cold water into the fitting s hot water inlet until the set temperature has been reached. 36

37 THERMAL DISINFECTION: PLAY IT SAFE. Hygiene is a particularly sensitive topic in hospitals and nursing homes and rightly so. Safety comes first, which is why the risk of infection has to be kept to a minimum. Clean drinking water is crucial. One way of preventing the contamination of water, and thus preventing the dangerous growth of legionella, is thermal disinfection according to the DVGW W 551 standard. This means rinsing fittings with hot water of at least 70 C, which kills off bacteria. Taps and shower heads are rinsed for at least three minutes with hot water. HANSA thermostats are ideal for performing this process and are easy to set to hot water rinsing. THERMAL DISINFECTION SAVING YOU TIME AND MONEY To ensure users carry out maintenance procedures regularly and reliably, those procedures must above all be simple. This moves the internal mechanism, so enabling the legionella rinse procedure to be performed with ease. The correct key is included in the scope of delivery. The flushing procedure is indicated by the red. In the rinsing position, only hot water flows. 41 THE MAIN REQUIREMENTS IN SUMMARY 1. Material requirements aimed at preventing chemical contamination: Fittings are comprised mainly of metal materials that inevitably come into contact with drinking water. When the drinking water comes into contact with the inside surfaces of the fitting, unwanted reactions may take place, such as metal contaminating the water. To prevent this, HANSA only uses the best materials available, such as MS 63. HANSA not only fulfils, but surpasses, the requirements of the DIN standard. This is supported in all washbasin mixers in which, thanks to the HANSAPROTEC system, the watercourse is categorically implemented without nickel coating (see the Hansa price list for identifiers). Together all these measures ensure the drinking water quality. 2. Material requirements aimed at limiting microbial infestation: Plastics and rubbers are especially prone to infestation by micro-organisms. HANSA only uses plastics for its fittings that comply with the KTW directive (Plastics for Drinking Water) and that are tested in compliance with W 270. This means that the materials don't release any substances to the drinking water which are harmful or which could be used as nutrients by micro-organisms. The limits governing levels of micro-organism growth on the surfaces are met. 3. Preventing excessive stagnation and contamination: Water should always be in movement and should not sit for too long in the pipes, otherwise there is a risk or contamination. That is why architects carry a special responsibility and must ensure frequent water circulation. This is achieved by high water flow speeds, outlet points in loops, and positioning regularly used outlet points at the end of each installation system. Furthermore, VDI 6023 Sheet 1 stipulates that outlet points should only be planned if they are going to be regularly used, in order to maintain high quality drinking water. 4. Hot water above 60 C to prevent the growth of legionella: Water temperatures of at least 60 C are required to prevent the growth of legionella. A storage temperature of over 60 C and a hydraulically balanced piping network designed in compliance with DVGW Worksheet W 553 are the best guarantee for flawlessly hygienic drinking water in correctly operated systems. Circulation that runs all the way to the most distant floor tap has hygienic benefits, and also aids comfort. It is important that systems carrying hot drinking water are designed to minimise the risk of scalding. That is why outlet points in healthcare facilities should be fitted with thermostatic mixer units that limit temperatures. The temperature limit for hospitals is 38 C.
