Getting Started (Cont.) Assembly Your new High Performance Blender comes with a set of Japanese stainless steel blades (Fig. 1). This blade set is fully assembled at the base of the jug. You do not have to assemble the blades, nor do you take them out of the jug for cleaning. Make sure that the appliance is disconnected from the mains power supply and switched off: the speed control dial should be set to [ 0 ] (Fig. 2). Fig. 1 Fig. 2 Place the jug assembly into position on the motor base (Fig. 3), making sure it is properly aligned on the drive gear. Your blender is now ready for use. Fig. 3 NOTE The blender jug must sit properly on the base, otherwise the safety switch will prevent the motor from turning on. Drive Gear Safety Switch When operating the blender for the first time, you may notice an odour coming from the motor. This is due to the parts being new and will subside soon. It is no cause for concern. Ensure sufficient ventilation. 9

Getting Started (Cont.) Mode PULSE [ P ] ICE-CRUSHING SMOOTHIE Action Short bursts of extra power Automatic mode for crushing ice: repeated short bursts of power, on and off, specially designed so ice will not spray and stick to the blender jug Automatic mode for blending smoothies: speed will increase gradually to maximum and operation will stop after 2 minutes operation this mode NOTE Do not use the blender without the lid properly in place. 10

Instructions Using the Blender Your new High Performance Blender can be operated manually, where you adjust the speed yourself by turning the Speed Control Dial clockwise to increase or anticlockwise to decrease blending speed. Alternatively, you can choose one of three automatic operation modes: Pulse, Ice-Crushing or Smoothie. Preparation Place the blender jug on top of the motor base, making sure it is properly aligned on the drive gear (see Fig. 3, page 9). Place the food you wish to blend into the blender jug. Make sure the lid of the blender jug is properly in place and the measuring cup securely covers the pouring hole in the lid. Before connecting the appliance to the power supply, make sure the Speed Control Dial is set to the OFF [ 0 ] position (see Fig. 2, page 9). When the appliance is plugged in, the "P" Pulse Mode Button will illuminate red and flash, indicating that the blender is powered on. It will stop flashing when you turn the dial to the left or right. (If the indicator does not flash, check and ensure that the jug is properly in place on the base.) Fig. 5 Manual Operation Gradually turn the Speed Control Dial clockwise from the [ 0 ] towards the [ MAX ] position (Fig. 5). Turn the dial back to [ 0 ] to stop operation. Automatic Operation Turn the Speed Control Dial anticlockwise to [ M ] (Fig. 6). The three mode buttons will flash blue. Select the appropriate mode and the relevant button will stay illuminated. To cancel this mode, press the button again and all three buttons will flash blue again. Pulse: Use this mode for processing ingredients in short bursts of power. This is ideal for preparing breadcrumbs, grinding nuts or crushing biscuits. As soon as you take your finger off the button, operation will stop. Fig. 6 Ice-Crushing: Use this mode for crushing ice cubes to fine consistency. The blender will operate and stop operation automatically. Smoothie: Use this mode for blending smoothies and other liquid food to a smooth consistency. The blender will operate automatically for two minutes and then stop operation. 11

Instructions (Cont.) Adding To add ingredients to the jug during operation, stop operation and remove the lid plug/measuring cup from the lid. Turn the cup anticlockwise and take it out (Fig. 7). Add additional ingredients through the pouring hole in the lid. Cover again before resuming operation, or use the plunger. Using the Plunger The specially designed plunger will help you keep all ingredients in the blade blending area during demanding processing tasks. To use the plunger, stop operation, remove the lid plug/measuring cup from the lid and insert the plunger through the pouring hole (Fig. 8). Slowly move the plunger down towards the blades and around the sides to push food pieces safely into the blade blending area while the unit is running. Finishing Up Fig. 7 Fig. 8 WARNING! Never use the plunger without the lid properly in place. When your ingredients are properly blended/processed, turn the Speed Control Dial back to [ 0 ] and unplug the appliance from the power point. Wait until the blades no longer move before removing the blender jug. Simply lift it off the motor base. No rotation is required. CAUTION! After every 2 minutes of continuous use, the blender must be rested for 1 minute. After 4 cycles, allow the motor to cool completely before further use in order to prevent overheating and consequent damage. Handle the blender with care, the cutting blades are very sharp. Always return the Speed Control Dial back to [ 0 ] after use. Do not run the blender without any liquid load in the jug. 12

Instructions (Cont.) For Bests Results Cut larger ingredients into smaller (2-3cm) pieces before adding them into the blender jug. To achieve the best results when pureeing solid ingredients, place small portions into the jug one by one instead of adding all ingredients at once. For blending solid or very thick liquid ingredients we recommend using the blender in PULSE (P) mode to prevent the blades from becoming stuck. Use the plunger to remove thick mixtures from the side of the blender jug. For best blending of solid and liquid foods, pour the liquid into the jug first, then add the solids. If required, gradually add more liquid through the pouring hole in the lid. Freeze fresh fruit when it is in season to ensure you always have fruit on hand and ready to blend for smoothies. Peel and chop fruit as necessary before freezing. Frozen bananas make smoothies extra creamy. To prepare fruit smoothies using fresh fruit, peel, core and then cut the fruit into pieces. Ensure all fruit juices are chilled before blending to keep drinks cold for longer. When making cocktails or other drinks with more than 6 ice cubes, use the Ice- Crushing function to ensure the ice is crushed to fine consistency. When using ice-cream for thick shakes, take it out of the freezer 5 10 minutes before blending, and add it to the blender jug in small chunks. Use the Pulse mode when processing harder foods such as nuts or biscuits. Never use the blender for processing hot liquids. Always allow hot ingredients to cool to room temperature before blending. Do not overfill the blending jug, never fill above the 2L marking. This will allow some room for the blended ingredients to swirl around in the jug. 13

FAQs Can I use the blender without the measuring cup inside the lid? You can only use the blender without the measuring cup if you use the plunger to assist with food processing. The pouring hole in the lid must always be covered during processing, either with the measuring cup or with the plunger. Leaving the hole uncovered means you risk food spilling out of the jug during processing. Blended food is leaking out of the jug. What has gone wrong? If food is leaking from the top of the jug, it may be overfilled. Remove some of the contents for processing separately. Also make sure the lid and lid plug/measuring cup are securely in place. If liquid is leaking out of the base of the jug, contact our after sales support centre and arrange examination of the product. How can I remove the blades from the blender jug for cleaning? Don't! Never attempt to remove or disassemble the blades from the blender jug. They are part of the jug and must not be removed. To clean the jug, simply let the machine run an automatic blending cycle with a little water and detergent, as described on the opposite page. The blender is plugged in but it is not working. Make sure that your power point is in working order and the appliance is properly plugged in. Also ensure that the blender jug sits properly on the base. Turn the Speed Control Dial to [ 0 ] and then to the desired speed. The blender stopped working during processing. After longer periods of processing, the overheat protection may stop the motor in order to protect it from overheating. Switch off and unplug the unit and let the motor cool down for 30 minutes, then restart. What is the best way to puree cooked vegetables for baby food? For pureeing, feed small portions into the jug one by one instead of adding all ingredients at once. Depending on the type of vegetable, you may have to add a little liquid for a creamier consistency. Can I crush ice in the blender? Yes, the blades are strong enough to crush ice. With the motor switched off, add ice cubes to the blender jug, replace the lid and process using Ice-Crushing mode. Can I make soup in the blender? No, always let liquids cool to room temperature before processing. Processing hot liquids may result in the unit exploding due to the steam created. 14

Other Useful Information Cleaning and Care IMPORTANT! Do not disassemble the blades! The blade set is a fully integrated part of the blending jug. Do not attempt to remove the blades from the jug for cleaning. Doing so will void your warranty and lead to leakage problems. Do not immerse! Never immerse the motor base of the blender in water or other liquid. Never wash it under running water. Only wipe the motor base with a well wrung out, damp cloth. What NOT to use for cleaning: Do not use alkaline, harsh chemical or alcohol based cleansers for cleaning any part of the appliance. Do not use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads or hard brushes. Cleaning the Jug and Blades Always clean the blender immediately after use. Do not let food dry in the blender jug, as this will make cleaning more difficult. After use, take the jug off the base and remove all food. CAUTION: Take care to avoid injury, the blades are very sharp! Half fill the jug with lukewarm water and a drop mild detergent, then return the jug onto the base. Close the lid and make sure the measuring cup is properly in place. Turn the Speed Control Dial clockwise to [ MAX ] and let the blender run on high speed for one minute to thoroughly clean the jug and blades. Empty the jug and repeat the above process two more times with clean water to rinse the jug and blades. Allow to air dry. Cleaning the Motor Base Make sure the blender is disconnected from the power supply. Wipe the motor base only with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Remove any stubborn spots by rubbing with a damp cloth and non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use rough scouring pads or cleansers on any part of the appliance. Cleaning the Accessories Clean the plunger, lid and lid plug/measuring cup in soapy water, rinse and dry thoroughly. NOTE The jug, lid, plunger and measuring cup may also be washed in a dishwasher. 15

Other Useful Information (Cont.) Safety Features The High Performance Blender is equipped with a safety switch (Fig. 9), which prevents operation if the jug does not sit properly on the base. An in-built thermostat switches off the appliance if the motor overheats. In such a case, switch off the appliance and let the motor cool down for half an hour before restarting the appliance. Fig. 9 Storage Store the clean and dry appliance, and all its parts, in the original carton, which will protect it from dust. Store it in a clean and dry place, unplugged from the power supply and out of children's reach. Do not wrap the cord around the appliance during storage. Service and repair Except for the rubber drive gear (see below), the unit has no user-serviceable parts contained within. Do not attempt to repair, disassemble or modify the appliance. If the appliance requires repair or service, contact our after sales support centre for advice. Changing the Rubber Drive Gear The High Performance Blender comes supplied with two spare rubber drive gears, which may need replacement due to deterioration after extensive use of the appliance. It is located within the drive gear on top of the motor base. To replace it, remove the original rubber drive gear using your fingers or pliers (Fig. 10). Press the new rubber drive gear down until it is firmly in place and level with the top of the motor drive gear (Fig. 11). Fig. 10 Fig
