4 Water softeners A water softener is a water treatment device that uses an ion exchange process to remove the minerals that cause scale and scum. It leaves the user with water that is kinder to the skin and allows soaps, shampoos and detergents to lather and rinse away more easily, saving time and money. Primary Purpose To eliminate the effects of hard water in order to protect and extend the life of hot water appliances, such as central heating boilers, shower units, washing machines and hot water cylinders. Lifestyle Choices Unlike other forms of water treatment, a water softener delivers a wealth of lifestyle benefi ts, leaving many fi rst time customers amazed at the difference that softened water can make to their lifestyle and household budget. Softening Cycle A water softener works by passing hard water through a cylinder containing ion exchange resin. This resin consists of tiny beads that attract and retain the hardness minerals, allowing the now softened water to fl ow on. Regeneration Cycle Periodically, these resin beads are automatically cleaned and regenerated by rinsing with a small amount of brine a salt solution. A. A water softener removes hardness minerals from the water. A The P-S 53 has been designed for smaller household environments where there is a consistent and relatively low demand for water, whereas the P-SM 65 v2 has been designed for larger households where the demand for water can vary and compliments today s busy lifestyle. At fl ow rates under 10 litres per minute; the hardness may not be effectively removed from the water. If peak fl ow rates are maintained for longer than ten minutes the softener capacity may be reduced resulting in hard water break through. *The proportion brining control system calculates the exact amount of water and salt required to regenerate the water softener. 8 Service Minimal maintenance Your new water softener is fully automatic and only requires you to occasionally top the unit up with salt. Your local B&Q store will be happy to supply premium food grade salt in either 10kg or 25kg bags. Please check the specifi cation of your water softener to ensure that the correct type of salt is being used. Installing a Water Softener Installation is straightforward as most models are supplied with fl exible hoses, making them simple to plumb in, but also easy to take out should you ever decide to move. Our range of water softeners have been designed and developed for UK homes and plumbing systems and most models will fi t into a standard kitchen cupboard. Low voltage electrics and small diameter cable enables the units to be installed in most cases without the services of an electrician or unsightly cables. Water treated by the water softener will contain slightly higher than average levels of sodium (salt) and it is therefore recommended that at least one drinking water tap in the house is left untreated. 10 Physical water conditioners Physical water conditioners can offer a cost effective, environmentally friendly alternative for controlling the build-up of scale where heat exchange takes place. These type of devices alter the water chemistry, are easy to install and inexpensive to run. Primary Purpose To help protect and extend the life of hot water appliances such as central heating boilers, shower units, washing machines and hot water cylinders from the effects of limescale. These types of units are suitable for installers wishing to comply with Part L of the building regulations. Magnetic The magnetic scale inhibitor works by encouraging the formation of larger, needle shaped crystals, as opposed to the normal small cubic pattern found in hard untreated water. This reduces the stickiness of the scale forming crystals and enables them to be washed away by the fl ow of the water. The effect is temporary which makes them ideal for the protection of individual appliances. Electrolytic These types of units add minute quantities of metal - usually zinc or iron - to suppress the formation of scale by altering the chemical equilibrium of the water. They also act as sites for scale to precipitate onto, consequently protecting vulnerable heating surfaces like heat exchangers and heating elements. Once water is conditioned by the device, any remaining limescale held in suspension simply passes through the hot water system without sticking to heat exchange surfaces. 11 Primary Locations Magnetic Electrolytic Electronic Devices Polyphosphate dosing precipitate as minute seed crystals in the water itself. When the water is heated, these seed crystals attract further scale to them, rather than the metal surfaces around them. The larger crystals that result are washed away in the water fl ow. These devices are simple to install. Polyphosphate Dosing This type of system is the most popular and effective method of treating water before it is heated in instantaneous water heating units like combination boilers. The system works by isolating the calcium in the water and prevents it from forming scale on the heat exchanger. When choosing a polyphosphate dosing system, care must be taken to ensure it is unaffected by water volume and pressure, as overdosing can cause polyphosphate to stick to the heat exchanger leading to premature failure. The P-SR 8V2 is an electronic scale inhibiting device that uses digital frequencies to alter the characteristics acteristics of hard water. Why Choose the P-SR 8V 2? 16 Filtration & Drinking Water Filtration systems typically comprise of a filter housing and disposable or washable filter and are intended to be incorporated within a water supply system. Drinking water systems are similar in their design and are usually supplied complete with a tap and fixing kit for easy installation. Filters should only be fitted to an approved potable supply. Primary Purpose Filters and drinking water systems provide a cost effective way of controlling the quality of the water used within the home. They provide a physical barrier to remove undesirable elements from your water supply, such as bad taste, odours, colours, heavy metals and organic pollutants. and are often used to protect equipment and appliances from contamination. TFPKIT is a drinking water fi lter system that can reduce sediment, chlorine and unpleasant tastes and odours in drinking water.
