1 Term 1 - Who we are and our place in the World/ Geography Focus Out of Africa Aim - To inspire a curiosity about the world Harvest at Hawley - Starting with our harvest at Hawley, cooking using vegetables that Y2 have grown - recipes from different cultures children in Y2 continue with gardening and start cooking club on a Friday afternoon. Focus on food - Where does it come from and how does it get here? Air miles/sustainability, packing plants, behind the scenes from field to supermarket. Leading into a study of an Africa, African countries, food and culture Possible visits Regents Park Mosque, British museum, October Gallery, Black History month events and visitors, storytellers, dance workshops Texts - Grace and Family - CLPE plans Lila and the Secret of Rain (Isolde s planning) Information books- African Wildlife African Tales Barefoot Collection Shared Outcome - Harvest Assembly with a multicultural theme Geography - Naming and locating the world's continents and oceans, comparing a local area to a non-european country, using basic vocabulary to describe a non-familiar area. English - Stories from a range of cultures, information writing Art - African textiles, masks, artefacts Science Plant life in Africa, observing how seeds and bulbs grow into mature plants, finding out and describing how plants need water, light and a suitable temperature to grow. Dance - Performing dances using simple movements Music- Learning songs from another culture, African Instruments Cooking Friday cookery club Using vegeatbles for Hawley Harvest to cook simple meals Computing, RE, PE, PSHE See separate planning documents

A traditional tale to be decided Book making - own versions of the story, theatre posters for the play, a backdrop, invitations, props, masks etc. Possible Visits - behind the scenes in a theatre, visiting panto company, CLC, visiting graphic designer Texts Different versions of the traditional tale for the KS1 performance Shared Outcome The KS1 Performance English - Traditional and Fairy tales, recount, invitations, posters, lists, instructions DT - Designing purposeful, functional and appealing products Science - Identifying and comparing uses of different materials. Dance - Preparing for the Christmas Performance - performing dances using simple movements Art and design - Using a range of materials, using drawing, painting and sculpture, learning about a range of artists, craftsmen and designers, Computing, RE, PSHE, PE See separate planning documents Plus Whole school events/activities Anti bullying week, Harvest Assembly, Black History Month, Festivals of Light, EYFS Nativity Performance

4 Term 2 - Where we are in Place and Time/History Focus Whole school events -Chinese New Year Spring Assembly Learning to be a Victorian Looking back to the past and into the future. Key individuals and key events The Victorian era was one of invention and inventors - photos, engines, stamps, bicycles, ice cream, telephones, flushing toilets etc! Possible visits/visitors - The Science museum, The Geffrye museum, The Ragged School, Charles Dickens house, V+A museum, the British Army museum, the Canal museum, the Roundhouse, local streets eg. Kelly Street, the Cutty Sark, Freshwater theatre company, Possible texts - Lewis Carroll - Alice in Wonderland, Charles Dickens - Oliver Twist, Edward Lear - The Owl and the Pussycat (sequel by Julia Donaldson), limericks and nonsense poems Continue with the Victorians over the whole term with a change of direction as necessary focus on Book week in the second half term. Shared outcome Book making on a Victorian theme History - Lives of significant historical figures including those from different periods, Significant local people (Londoners), key events Geography - Using simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the immediate environment, using aerial images and other models to create simple plans and maps English - Reports, information texts, nonsense poems, poems that rhyme, extended stories, significant authors Science- Identifying and comparing uses of different materials, finding out how solid shapes can be changed by squashing etc, comparing how things move on different surfaces Computing, RE, PSHE See separate planning documents
5 Term 3 - Sharing the planet/science Focus Whole school events Sports Day Healthy Schools Week Summer Concert Wonderful Water Aim - To develop curiosity and the understanding of scientific ideas through the use of first hand practical experiences Water - the source of life looking at different water sources moving on to seas and oceans and the seaside in the second half term, possibly focusing on mermaids, pirates, the beach The water cycle - weather diaries and measuring rainfall and puddle areas, water conservation, changing water into ice and steam, plant diversity, growing plants- water, light warmth, how water is transported through plants, the importance of water in survival Rivers - Tracking the world's major rivers on Google Earth and identifying human and physical features. Pond life-rearing Frogs and/or hatching out ducklings looking at Life cycles, diaries and information books Mermaids, sirens and other fantasy creatures Pirates, The beach Under the Sea Possible visits - Hampstead Heath, Regents Park, the Zoo, the Wetland centre, Camley Street, Kentish Town City Farm, the London aquarium, the Grant Museum, the Golden Hinde, the seaside, the Thames possibly upstream and down Suggested Texts - The storm whale Dear daddy The Light house keepers Lunch Simple versions of Greek Myths Shared outcome Focus on a big trip and then exhibiting the follow up work
6 Science - Finding out about the basic needs of animals, including humans, knowing that animals have offspring which grow into adults, exploring the needs of plants growing in different habitats, describing how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different animals and plants, exploring and comparing the differences between things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive sea creatures, fossils. Identifying that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited, describing how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different animals and plants, identifying and naming a number of plants and animals in their habitats including microhabitats, simple food chains with reference to sea life. English- Poetry - "really looking", poems on a theme Geography - Using simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the immediate environment, using aerial photos and plan perspectives to recognise landmarks and basic human and physical features.
