2 The right to adequate food as a human right was first formally recognized by the United Nations in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) from 1948, as a part of the right to a decent standard of living In 1999, the right to food was interpreted by the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (CESCR) in the General Comment 12 establishing that: The right to adequate food is realized when every man, woman and child, alone or in community with others, has the physical and economic access at all times to adequate food or means for its procurement. food sovereignty

3 The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food also defined the right to food: The right to have regular, permanent and unrestricted access, either directly or by means of financial purchases, to quantitatively and qualitatively adequate and sufficient food corresponding to the cultural traditions of the people to which the consumer belongs, and which ensure a physical and mental, individual and collective, fulfilling and dignified life free of fear.

24 HORTIS project HORTIS project wanted to contribute to fight social exclusion, and to promote lifelong learning among adults through community and urban gardening. Main objectives : 1) To train a new generation of trainers on community gardening able to set up and run community gardens, attracting and engaging the local community. 2) To engage unemployed adults in training courses on how to create and maintain a garden.

25 It aims to encourage pioneering business oriented initiatives on Urban Agriculture based on knowledge exchange, mutual cooperation and innovation among SMEs, policy makers and Higher Education Institutions as to meet the global demand for urban green innovation. URBAN GREEN TRAIN wants to provide lifelong learning opportunities to adult learners through a flexible path that can be entered at different life stages for the creation of new business-oriented initiatives in Urban Agriculture. The URBAN GREEN TRAIN project has been funded with the support of the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
