3 Introduction The Videofied XL GPRS is a completely wireless, self powered video security system. The XL is a monitored system. The main features of the XL include: - Integrated Video Verification - Two-Way Voice Verification (Full Duplex) - Integrated GPRS communicator - Wireless communication with peripheral devices. The XL panel is a standalone alarm system with an integrated GPRS / GSM IP communicator for connection to a central station. The panel also features a 105 db integrated siren, microphone, loud-speaker for two-way voice and a touch sensitive backlit keypad with integrated badge reader.. Specifications - Video Verification - Two-Way voice audio verification (Full Duplex) - Integrated GSM / GPRS Communicator - Integrated badge reader - Touch sensitive, backlit keypad - Self powered 8 D-Cell Alkaline batteries - Adjustable entry / exit delays - Up to 19 badges or user codes - Up to 19 Videofied peripheral devices All Videofied peripheral devices are compatible with the Videofied XL control panel with the exception of the RAR100 remote relay. Installation The Videofied XL system is configured with a Videofied CMA keypad. Basic programming follows a graphical menu-driven path. The CMA keypad can be removed from the system after basic installation is completed. The CMA keypad can be re-enrolled if further configuration is needed at a later time.. Siren and loud-speaker Microphone How it works When the Videofied system is armed and a MotionViewer or wireless door contact is triggered, the control panel will connect to the central station to report the alarm condition. The system also reports tamper, panic and supervisory conditions to the central station. These alarm conditions are reported completely wirelessly over the GPRS cellular network. Alarms created by detection with a MotionViewer device are accompanied by a 10 second video of the cause of the intrusion. After the alarm is communicated, a two-way voice verification session is possible between the control panel and the central station. Voice verification is full duplex over GSM cellular. 4 1. Pre-Installation Information Naming the 4 Logical Areas Areas are meant to show logical separation between devices. The feature is important for configuring entry and exit devices, and also for configuring the Stay mode. Devices that are categorized in area number 1 will always be subject to the entry and exit delay. The table below shows a typical area configuration for a light commercial and residential installation. Choose which devices will be armed the Stay mode. Retrieve code list to be programmed from end user (19 maximum access codes with 4 to 6 numbers per code). Area Office Installation Area Resi Installation 1 ENTRY DELAY 1 ENTRY DELAY 2 FRONT OFFICE 2 LIVING ROOM 3 ACCOUNTING 3 UPPER LEVEL 4 WAREHOUSE 4 GARAGE (Devices learned to Area 1 are subject to the entry and exit delay.) Naming Devices Prepare names for the devices that will be enrolled to the system. The Videofied XL can be programmed with a complete logical name for each peripheral device up to 16 characters in length. Choose which area each device will be programmed to. Devices that are placed in Area 1 will behave with an entry and exit delay. Devices placed in any other area will provide an instant alarm trigger. 2. System Basics 1 Devices in Area 1 are always delayed. 2 Do not install the Videofied XL control panel on or near a high voltage electrical panel. This can cause interference resulting in poor performance of the radio and GPRS modem. 3 Use the to clear the previous character when in a parameter. 4 Devices can only be recorded once. A device must be deleted before being recorded again. 5 The system supports a maximum of 19 peripheral devices in any device type combination. A keypad will count as a peripheral device. 6 PIR and MotionViewers should be mounted 2m10 to 2m35 (7 to 8 ) high. 7 Outdoor MotionViewers should be mounted 2m to 3m (7.5 to 9 ) high. These devices should be mounted in a manner that terminates the view of the PIR, protecting an asset rather than an area.. 8 Mount the remote keypad last as the device is useful to have mobile during the installation procedure. 9 Always clean the camera lens after installation (Use a clean dry piece of cloth. Take care not to apply pressure to the lens.). 10 Use the key to change case when typing on the keypad. 11 Use caution when opening and closing the panel cover as internal components are fragile. 2

31 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N D A T A S H E E T Made by RSI VIDEO TECHNOLOGIES General Information Before installing detectors, please thoroughly read these installation instructions and NFPA 72, which provides detailed information on detector spacing, placement, zoning, wiring, and special applications. NOTICE : This manual should be left with the owner/user of this equipment. IMPORTANT : This detector must be tested and maintained regularly following NFPA 72 requirements. The detector should be cleaned at least once a year. General Description The SD photoelectronic smoke detector with built-in wireless transmitter is intended for use with wireless Videofied alarm systems that support SD series devices. Refer to alarm panel installation instructions for compatibility. The SD smoke detector can be used for residential installations. The transmitter can send alarm, and battery condition messages to the alarm panel. Refer to the alarm panel s instructions for the maximum number of transmitters that can be supported. The built-in Drift Compensation algorithm automatically maintains the sensitivity of the detector. The mounting base installation is simplified by the incorporation of features compatible with drywall fasteners or other methods that provide a method for securing the detector in place. Two LEDs and a sounder on the detector provide local visual and audible indication of the detector s status : The SD incorporates a state-of-the-art optical sensing chamber and an advanced microprocessor. The microprocessor allows the detector to automatically maintain proper operation at factory calibrated detection levels, even when sensitivity is altered due to the presence of contaminants settling into the unit s smoke chamber. In order for this feature to work properly, the chamber must never be opened while power is applied to the smoke detector. This includes cleaning, maintenance or screen replacement. The SD contains a piezoelectric horn which generates the ANSI S3.41 temporal pattern in an alarm condition. During an alarm condition, pressing the detector s test switch will silence the piezoelectric horn for 5 minutes. Once the detector has reset, a message is transmitted to the control panel. SD means SD600 for USA/Canada and SD200 for Europe and rest of the world. 1

32 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N During initial power-up, the red and green LEDs will blink synchronously once every 5 seconds. It will take approximately 20 seconds for the detector to finish the power-up cycle (see Table 1). Green LED Red LED Piezoelectric Horn Power-up Blinks every 5 sec Blinks every 5 sec Off Normal (standby) Blinks every 10 sec Off Off Out of sensitivity Off Blinks every 5 sec Off Smoke Alarm Off Blinks every 1 sec Temporal Pattern Low Battery Off Blinks every 45 sec Chirp every 45 sec Table 1: Detector LED Modes After power-up has completed and the detector is functioning normally within its listed sensitivity range, the green LED blinks once every 10 seconds. If the detector is in need of maintenance because its sensitivity has shifted outside the listed limits, the red LED blinks once every 5 seconds. When alarm has been activated by smoke, the red LED blinks every 1 second. The LED indication must not be used in place of the tests specified under Testing. If the detector senses a low battery condition, the red LED blinks once every 45 seconds. Low Battery Detection The SD is powered by a single 3-volt CR123A or DL123A Lithium battery (included). The detector checks for a low battery at least every 65 minutes. If a low battery is detected, the transmitter sends a low battery message to the control panel, which displays a low battery message and forward it to the monitoring station. In addition, the red LED of the SD will blink and the horn will chirp every 45 seconds and the test switch alarm function will be disabled. Pressing the test switch during this time will silence the chirps for 12 hours. The battery should be replaced BEFORE the chirps begin. Be sure to replace the battery with a fresh one. Battery Installation and Replacement To replace the battery: 1. Remove the detector from its mounting base by twisting the detector counterclockwise. Remove the battery, and dispose properly. 2. To ensure proper power-down sequence, wait a minimum of 20 seconds before installing new battery. 3. Install a new approved 3-volt Lithium battery in the battery compartment. Follow the polarity diagram inside the compartment. 4. Reinstall the smoke detector onto the mounting base by turning the detector clockwise. 5. The green LED should blink about once every 10 seconds to indicate normal operation. If the battery is not installed correctly, the smoke detector will not operate and the battery may be damaged. If the detector does not appear to be sending a signal during any of the tests, check for correct battery installation and for a fully charged battery. Programming The smoke detector must be enrolled in the control panel before it can operate in the system. Recording of the detector The alarm panel must be put in "Recording device mode", and the keypad must display PRESS PROGRAM BUTTON OF DEVICE Insert the CR123 lithium battery. Press the TEST SWITCH of the detector and wait feedback on the keypad. With the aid of the keypad, continue recording by running the Radio Range Test > Possibility of testing the RF range. SD means SD600 for USA/Canada and SD200 for Europe and rest of the world.

33 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N Mounting Determine the best location for the smoke detector, one that provides a strong wireless transmission path and proper smoke detection. A good transmission path must be established from the proposed mounting location before permanently installing the detector. To check, perform the RANGE TEST. To mount the detector, perform the following steps: ordinances permit). Use the two screws and anchors provided. 2. Turn the detector in a clockwise direction in the mounting base until it clicks into place. 3. Test the detector immediately after completing the installation (as described in the TESTING section of this manual) and perform the RANGE TEST with the control system. 1. Once a suitable location has been determined, install the mounting base on the ceiling or on the wall (if local Figure 2. Detector Mounting Base DO NOT attach the detector to removable ceiling panels. Attach the detector across panel support as shown in Figure 3. Dust covers are an effective way to limit the entry of dust into the smoke detector sensing chamber during construction. However, they may not completely prevent airborne dust particles from entering the detector. Therefore, it is recommended that the detectors be removed before beginning construction or other dust producing activity. When returning the system to service, be sure to remove the dust covers from any detectors that were left in place during construction. Figure 3. 34 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N Testing the Sensor NOTE : Before testing, notify the central station that the smoke detector system is undergoing maintenance, in order to prevent unwanted alarms. Detectors must be tested after installation and following periodic maintenance. The SD may be tested as follows: A. Test Switch 1. A recessed test switch is located on the detector housing. 2. Push and hold the recessed test switch for a minimum of 5 seconds. Use a small screwdriver or Allen key with maximum diameter of 0.18 inch (the alarm panel will trigger and then the smoke detector will go into alarm. If the tool is removed from the recessed switch the sounder will shut off.) If the detector is within the listed sensitivity limits, the LED on the detector should blink once per second and the horn should sound within 3 seconds. B. Smoke Entry Test Hold a smoldering punk stick or cotton wick at the side of the detector and gently blow smoke through the detector until the unit alarms. Canned aerosol is also an acceptable method. Testing Signal Strength NOTE : Remove battery tab before installation. A test should be performed before installation to determine a strong communication path with the control panel and after installation is complete. Also, the owner/user should test the unit at least weekly. Maintenance NOTE : Before performing maintenance on the detector, notify the proper authorities and the central station that maintenance is being performed and the system will be temporarily out of service. Disable the zone or system undergoing maintenance to prevent any unwanted alarms. Power must be removed from the detector before performing maintenance of any kind by removing the detector s battery. 1. To ensure proper power-down sequence, battery must be removed from detector for a minimum of 20 seconds before removing chamber top. 2. Remove the detector cover by turning counterclockwise. 3. Vacuum the cover or use canned air to remove any dust or debris. 4. Remove the top half of the screen/sensing chamber by lifting straight up (Figure 5). 5. 35 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N Limitations of Fire Alarm Systems Manufacturer recommends that smoke and/or heat detectors be located throughout a protected premise following the recommendations of the current edition of the National Fire Protection Association Standard 72, National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72), manufacturer s recommendations, state and local codes, and the recommendations contained in Guide for the Proper Use of System Smoke Detectors, which is made available at no charge to all installing dealers. A study by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (an agency of the United States government) indicated that smoke detectors may not go off or give early warning in as many as 35% of all fires. While fire alarm systems are designed to provide warning against fire, they do not guarantee warning or protection against fire. Any alarm system is subject to compromise or failure to warn for a variety of reasons. For example: Particles of combustion or smoke from a developing fire may not reach the sensing chambers of the smoke detector because: - Barriers such as closed or partially closed doors, walls, or chimneys may inhibit flow. - Smoke particles may become cold and stratify, and may not reach the ceiling or upper walls where detectors are located. - Smoke particles may be blown away from detectors by air outlets. - Smoke particles may be drawn into air returns before reaching the detector. In general, smoke detectors on one level of a structure cannot be expected to sense fires developing on another level. The amount of smoke present may be insufficient to alarm smoke detectors. Smoke detectors are designed to alarm at various levels of smoke density. If such density levels are not created by a developing fire at the location of detectors, the detectors will not go into alarm. Smoke detectors, even when working properly, have sensing limitations. Detectors that have photoelectronic sensing chambers tend to detect smoldering fires better than flaming fires, which have little visible smoke. Detectors that have ionizing-type sensing chambers tend to detect fast flaming fires better than smoldering fires. Because fires develop in different ways and are often unpredictable in their growth, neither type of detector is necessarily best and a given type of detector may not provide adequate warning of a fire. Smoke detectors are subject to false alarms and nuisance alarms. For example, a smoke detector located in or near a kitchen may go into nuisance alarm during normal operation of kitchen appliances. In addition, dusty or steamy environments may cause a smoke detector to falsely alarm. If the location of a smoke detector causes an abundance of false alarms or nuisance alarms, do not disconnect the smoke detector; call a professional to analyze the situation and recommend a solution. Smoke detectors cannot be expected to provide adequate warning of fires caused by arson, children playing with matches (especially within bedrooms), smoking in bed, violent explosions (caused by escaping gas, improper storage of flammable materials, etc.). Heat detectors do not sense particles of combustion and are designed to alarm only when heat on their sensors increase at a predetermined rate or reaches a predetermined level. Heat detectors are designed to protect property, not life. Warning devices (including horns, sirens, and bells) may not alert people or wake up sleepers who are located on the other side of closed or partially open doors. A warning device that activates on a different floor or level of a dwelling or structure is less likely to awaken or alert people. Even persons who are awake may not notice the warning if the alarm is muffled by noise from a stereo, radio, air conditioner or other appliance, or by passing traffic. Audible warning devices may not alert the hearing-impaired (strobes or other devices should be provided to warn these people). Any warning device may fail to alert people with a disability, deep sleepers, people who have recently used alcohol or drugs, or people on medication or sleeping pills. - Please note that: i) Strobes can, under certain circumstances, cause seizures in people with conditions such as epilepsy. ii) Studies have shown that certain people, even when they hear a fire alarm signal, do not respond or comprehend the meaning of the signal. It is the property owner s responsibility to conduct fire drills and other training exercises to make people aware of fire alarm signals and instruct on the proper reaction to alarm signals. iii) In rare instances, the sounding of a warning device can cause temporary or permanent hearing loss. Telephone lines needed to transmit alarm signals from a premises to a central station may be out of service or temporarily out of service. For added protection against telephone line failure, backup radio transmission systems are recommended. System components, though designed to last many years, can fail at any time. As a precautionary measure, it is recommended that smoke detectors be checked, maintained, and replaced per manufacturer s recommendations. System components will not work without electrical power. If system batteries are not serviced or replaced regularly, they may not provide battery backup when AC power fails. Environments with high air velocity or that are dusty or dirty require more frequent maintenance. In general, fire alarm systems and devices will not work without power and will not function properly unless they are maintained and tested regularly. While installing a fire alarm system may make the owner eligible for a lower insurance rate, an alarm system is not a substitute for insurance. 36 Smoke Detector SD I N S T A L L A T I O N I N S T R U C T I O N Requirements and recommendations for proper use of fire alarm systems including smoke detectors and other fire alarm devices: Early fire detection is best achieved by the installation and maintenance of fire detection equipment in all rooms and areas of the house or building in accordance with the requirements and recommendations of the current edition of the National Fire Protection Association Standard 72, National Fire Alarm Code (NFPA 72), the manufacturer s recommendations, State and local codes and the recommendations contained in Guide for the Proper Use of System Smoke Detectors, which is made available at no charge to all installing dealers. For specific requirements, check with the local Authority Having Jurisdiction (ex. Fire Chief) for fire protection systems. Requirements and Recommendations include: For residential applications, smoke detectors shall be installed outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the family living unit, including basements and excluding crawl spaces and unfinished attics. Smoke detectors shall be installed in sleeping rooms in new construction and it is recommended that they shall also be installed in sleeping rooms in existing construction. It is recommended that more than one smoke detector shall be installed in a hallway if it is more than 30 feet long. It is recommended that there shall never be less then two smoke detectors per apartment or residence. It is recommended that smoke detectors be located in any room where an alarm control is located, or in any room where alarm control connections to an AC source or phone lines are made. If detectors are not so located, a fire within the room could prevent the control from reporting a fire. All fire alarm systems require notification devices, including sirens, bells, horns, and/or strobes. In residential applications, each automatic alarm initiating device when activated shall cause the operation of an alarm notification device that shall be clearly audible in all bedrooms over ambient or background noise levels (at least 15dB above noise) with all intervening doors closed. It is recommended that a smoke detector with an integral sounder (smoke alarm) be located in every bedroom and an additional notification device be located on each level of a residence. To keep your fire alarm system in excellent working order, ongoing maintenance is required per the manufacturer s recommendations and UL and NFPA standards. At a minimum the requirements of Chapter 7 of NFPA 72 shall be followed. A maintenance agreement should be arranged through the local manufacturer s representative. Maintenance should be performed annually by authorized personnel only. The most common cause of an alarm system not functioning when a fire occurs is inadequate maintenance. As such, the alarm system should be tested weekly to make sure all sensors and transmitters are working properly. Although designed for long life, fire alarm devices including smoke detectors may fail at any time. It is recommended that residential smoke detectors shall be replaced every 10 years. Any smoke detector, fire alarm system or any component of that system which fails shall be repaired or replaced immediately.
