3 INTRODUCTION General The aim of this device is detecting the danger condition (fire beginning), monitoring a series of environmental physical quantities depending on the internal danger condition. This device is used in potentially explosive areas together with an intrinsical safety barrier. Construction The detector consists of two parts: one fixed (base) and one removable (head). It is built externally in polycarbonate, while the internal parts are made of stainless steel. The head is attached to the base by a special bayonet type self locking system. The fixed base contains the wiring terminals, the indicating light (LED) and the contacts for the detector connection. The removable head contains the electronics circuits, the photoelectric cells and a labyrinth smoke chamber. The chamber itself is removable for maintenance and periodical cleaning. The detector is built with solid state components and the electronic circuits are protected against the humidity by the resin. Operation The photoelectric smoke detector is based on the principle of light scatter (tyndall effect). A light source generates a beam, while a receiver is situated opposite the transmitter, in an obscured position, therefore it does not receive any source of light in normal condition. When smoke or some particles go into the detector chamber, a part of the light reaches the receiver because it is reflected by the particles themselves. This will cause the detector alarm condition, therefore the LED placed on the detector base will turn on. TECHNICAL FEATURES Dimensions = diam. 100 mm, height 92 mm. Weight = 0,270 Kg. 4 INSTRUCTIONS Installation The detectors are normally installed directly on the ceiling and/or on junction box. The wiring is carried out with bipolar cable according to the CEI normatives. The installation must be performed in compliance with CEI 4.2 normatives. Since it is an intrinsical safety device, the conductors must have a 1,5 mm 2 minimum section and cables have to run in separated cable conduits. The detector location must be performed according to the design drawings. The electric connection and the endofline resistances on the terminal detectors of each loop line, must comply with operating diagrams. Operating test Before starting the operating test be sure that the detector wiring and installation have been performed following the design indications and in compliance with the installation normatives.» Attention: if the detector is installed on a line mapped to a release system, put the release command board in RESET position. The operating test must be performed with a smoke generator located under the detector, by verifyng that the smoke goes into the detector itself. The turned on LED located on the detector base will confirm the detector set up which have to transmit the alarm condition to the control panel. If the sensor detects again an alarm condition, though a zone reset has been performed, it means that some smoke residual are in the detector. Before executing an operating test on a second detector, reset the zone and be sure that this one is not in alarm condition. Operation in case of fire When a fire occurs one or more sensors detect the smoke and transmit an analog signal to the control panel to indicate the alarm condition. The turned on LED located on the detector base indicates the alarm event. Operation after fire detection At the end of the cause which has generated the alarm condition, after having reset the zone on the control panel, if the alarm condition persists, it needs to remove the smoke from detectors and room. If it is not enough, check the detector and its line. In case of damages replace it. Sixmonthly maintenance MAINTENANCE Exclude release systems connected to the detection line. Performe a practical test on some detectors of each zone to verify the right operating. Tests must be programmed in order to periodically check the detectors. During the test verify that alarm transmission occure and the LED on the detector base be turned on. Cleaning This operation requires to remove the detector from the base and to open the labyrinth. 5 TROUBLES AND REMEDIES Zone trouble Verify that all the detector are installed in field. Verify the line continuity and its integrity. Verify the presence of the endofline resistance and its value. Verify the intrinsic safety barrier Alarm on the zone without fire Verify which detector is in alarm condition and remove it. If after having reinstalled the detector the alarm condition persists, replace it.
