1. Introduction This document describes reset of VISIONLINE readers: locks, elevator readers and remote controllers. There are three different types of resets for reader electronics: Reset type Comment Warm reset Leaves data, system ID etc as it is in the reader but restarts the reader program; see details in chapter 2 Power-up reset Leaves most of the data in the reader (soft reset) Occurs e.g. the first time a unit is powered up and if the reader is without power too long at battery exchange Cold reset Sets the reader back to factory status If a reader does not open when a valid card/tag etc is presented: 1. Try to make a warm reset since the reader might be in a loop. 2. If the reader does not work after the warm reset, try to make a soft reset as well. 3. If the reader needs to be set back to factory status, perform a cold reset. 1.1 Abbreviations used in the document LCA = lock case adapter LCU = lock controller unit POD = power open device January 25, 2013 Page 4 of
2. RFID 3G readers Note: The information in this chapter is valid for the following VISIONLINE readers: Signature locks elevator readers remote controllers 2.1 Warm reset It is not possible to perform a warm reset on an RFID 3G reader. 2.2 Power-up reset (soft reset) 1. Disconnect the reader from power and let it be disconnected for at least 1 minute. 2. When the reader is connected to power again, the following actions must be taken: - set the time in the reader again - if applicable: set stand open and/or privacy in the reader again See Quick Reference Guide Lock Service 3G for details on how to set these parameters. 2.3 Cold reset Note: A cold reset will reset the reader to factory status. All data in the reader will be erased. Note: A cold reset should be done by a technician who has got the necessary training from a BU/distributor. Note: A cold reset also needs to be performed if a reader should be moved to another hotel with a different system ID. When making a cold reset of an RFID 3G reader, it is the LCA that is reset. The reset is performed from Lock Service 3G; see Quick reference guide Lock Service 3G for details Steps to perform after a cold reset The following measures must be taken after a cold reset: 1. System ID must be set in the reader; this can be performed in two ways: - with Lock Service 3G; see Quick reference guide Lock Service 3G for details - a system-id card; see Setup manual VingCard VISIONLINE 2. The reader must be initiated; this can be performed in two ways: - with Lock Service 3G; see Quick reference guide Lock Service 3G for details - an initiation card; see Setup manual VingCard VISIONLINE January 25, 2013 Page 5 of
3. RFID non-3g readers Note: If nothing else is stated, the information in this chapter is valid for the following VISIONLINE readers: Signature locks elevator readers remote controllers 3.1 Warm reset 1. Connect the service cable RFID to the Universal cold start device. 2. Make sure that the battery of the reader is connected. 3. Insert the service cable RFID in the reader. 4. Press the button on the Universal cold start device. 5. Present a valid access card/tag etc at the reader to make sure that it opens. Figure 1: Universal cold start device 3.2 Power-up reset (soft reset) 1. Disconnect the reader from power and let it be disconnected for at least 1 minute. 2. When the reader is connected to power again, the following actions must be taken: - set the time in the reader again - if applicable: set stand open and/or privacy in the reader again See Quick Reference Guide Lock Service for details on how to set these parameters. 3.3 Cold reset Note: A cold reset will reset the reader to factory status. All data in the reader will be erased. Note: A cold reset should be done by a technician who has got the necessary training from a BU/distributor. Note: A cold reset also needs to be performed if a reader should be moved to another hotel with a different system ID. When making a cold reset of an RFID non-3g reader, it is the LCA that is reset; see detailed description in sections Note: The cold reset of an RFID non-3g reader is always performed with the Universal cold start device; see a picture of the device in Figure 1. 7 3.3.1 To reach the test point of a Signature lock 1. For Signature locks, the test point is a pin on the back of the LCA; see Figure 5. Remove the LCA from its position so that you can reach the pin on the back; press the latch on top of the LCA with a flat blade screwdriver; see Figures 2, 3 and 4. Important: The LCA must still be connected to the unit. Figure 2: LCA in its mounting plate, seen from the top. The LCA latch which should be pressed is marked with red. Figure 3: Detail of the LCA latch Figure 4: Use a flat blade screwdriver to press the latch on the LCA. Figure 5: The test point pin for Signature locks, and also for elevator readers, is located as shown with the arrow in the picture. January 25, 2013 Page 7 of
3.3.2 To reach the test point of an elevator reader 1. For elevator readers, the test point is as for Signature locks a pin on the back of the LCA; see Figure 5. Remove the cover and release the LCA so that the pin on the back of the LCA can be reached. Figure 6: Exploded view of elevator reader (RFID interface unit). The test point pin for the elevator reader is located on the back of the LCA; see Figure 5. January 25, 2013 Page 8 of
3.3.3 To reach the test point on a thick remote controller 1. For thich remote controllers, the test point is a pin on the back of the LCA. Figure 7: Exploded view of thick remote controller; the LCA is marked with red. The test point pin is located on the back of the LCA, i.e. towards the right in Figure 7. Figure 8: Reset cable at LCA test point for thick remote controller, marked with red. January 25, 2013 Page 9 of
3.3.4 To reach the test point on a slim remote controller 1. For slim remote controller, the LCA is integrated with the interface board. To reach the test point on the interface board/lca, remove the slim remote controller cover; see Figure 9. Interface board/lca Figure 9: Remove the cover on the slim remote controller to reach the interface board/lca. 2. The test point, which is marked with TP2, is located somewhat differently depending on electronics version; see details in Figures 10 and 11. Figure 10: Test point TP2 on 1G version of slim remote controller PCB Figure 11: Test point TP2 on 2G version (AMS) of slim remote controller PCB January 25, 2013 Page 10 of
3.3.5 To perform a cold reset 1. Make sure that the battery of the reader is connected. 2. Make sure that you can reach the test point on the LCA; see the applicable section To reach the test point... on previous pages. 3. Insert the service cable RFID in the service interface of the unit. See Figure 12 for elevator readers/signature locks and Figure 13 for remote controllers. Service cable RFID Service interface Figure 12: Equipment for cold reset of LCA for elevator reader or Signature lock 4. Connect the service cable RFID to the Universal cold start device. 5.
