Technical Update Pro-Watch Software Intercom Product Support Product Versions This technical update applies to Pro-Watch Software Release 3.5 and later. Overview Intercom systems consist of master stations, which are typically deployed in a dispatch center near workstations, and remote stations, or call boxes which are deployed elsewhere. Pro-Watch integration to intercom systems includes the ability to control audio connections between intercom stations, the processing of events from the intercom system, and the association of intercom stations with Logical Devices. Intercoms are represented throughout the application using the following icon: Considerations and Limitations Pro-Watch supports two intercom products: Zenitel (Stentofon) AlphaComm product line Engineered Intercom systems (by special order only) Note Currently, only the AlphaComm units report alarm events to Pro-Watch. Other units are merely controlled by Pro-Watch. The AlphaComm unit reports a large number of events to the host, indicating a level of detail down to individual key presses. Not all of these events may be useful to the customer, but Pro-Watch reports them nonetheless. It is advised that customers Globally Shunt those events that are not useful. Intercom Icons may be placed on Map Pages in the Alarm Monitor, but only for control purposes. Intercoms events will not cause a flashing box around the icon when received, unless associated with a Logical Device. Implementation An intercom channel must be configured for Pro-Watch to communicate with an intercom unit. These channels are configured in the same manner as other channels, except there are no panels on these channels. Currently, Pro-Watch supports intercom channels through either hardware COM ports, or via a terminal server using TCP/IP. After defining an intercom channel, individual intercom stations are defined by right-clicking on the Site or Channel. The basic setup for these stations includes the address, or port, associated with the station on this intercom unit, and if it is a master station as follows: Document , Revision A 1 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
The Events tab, allows the configuring of events originating from the station as shown: Note Not all intercom units are able to report events, and therefore may not have an Events tab. After intercoms are set up, they may be associated with workstations and Logical Devices. This aids the control functions and event reporting capabilities in Pro-Watch. Master stations may be associated with workstations, thus allowing the operator to originate calls from selected intercoms. Remote stations may be associated with Logical Devices, allowing such features as the ability to right-click on a door alarm in the alarm monitor, and automatically call the intercom associated with a door, using the workstation s master intercom. This might be done to verbally alert a cardholder that the attempted PIN code is wrong, or badge is expired. Master station intercoms may be associated with a particular computer via Workstation Maintenance. A default master intercom station may be defined, which will serve as the station from which calls are made, when using parts of Pro-Watch that do not offer a choice of Document , Revision A 2 of 9 Honeywell International. 3 originating stations. Additional master stations may be defined on the Intercoms tab, for that purpose: Remote intercoms may be assigned to Logical Devices using the first tab in the Logical Device Maintenance screen. Only one intercom station may be associated with a single Logical Device. This is the intercom that is called when an intercom function is requested on a Logical Device. Similarly, events originating from such a station will contain logical device information, just as events from other hardware in the logical device. Consider the following event viewer example, in which an intercom station is associated with the logical device Jon Chip Reader 01. Events are reported from the station that originated them, while a single connection will involve events from both stations involved. The Message column, if selected in the event viewer or alarm monitor, will show additional information if available. This includes which digits were pressed, or which intercom a station is calling. Document , Revision A 3 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
Making Intercom Connections From the toolbar in either the alarm monitor or the Pro-Watch administrative application, the operator can click on the toolbar icon to activate the intercom control dialog. This dialog may be used to initiate and terminate calls between two intercom stations. The Source Intercom must be chosen from the list of master intercoms for the current workstation, as defined in the Intercoms tab of workstation maintenance. The Target Intercom may be any other intercom in the system. Thus, a master intercom may call other master intercoms, as well as remote intercoms. The Connection Priority is only applicable on Stentofon intercoms: Dial the standard priority of a call. Low Priority Direct and High Priority Direct used to override calls in progress that are of lower priority. Right-click on an intercom icon in an Intercom Stations folder under a site to display the following menu: Call Intercom creates a connection between the selected intercom station and the default master intercom for the current workstation. Reset causes the intercom station to hang up if it is already has an active connection. Document , Revision A 4 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
If a Logical Device has an associated intercom station, it may be controlled from a Logical Device view in a similar manner: Intercoms may also be called from the Alarm Monitor in two different ways: 1. If an alarm is received from a logical device with an associated intercom station, rightclick allows the operator to call the remote intercom station from the current default master station. 2. The operator may also call an intercom by left-clicking, (as well as a right-clicking a popup menu option) on Intercom icons placed on Map Pages. Note Currently, intercom events may only appear on Map Pages if the intercom is associated with a Logical Device. The intercom icons on a Map are for control purposes only. If it is absolutely necessary for intercom events to be shown on a Map, it is best to make an empty Logical Device, and associate the intercom station to it, solely for that purpose. Note Intercom stations do not need to have an associated Logical Device to appear in standard alarm pages. The picture following shows intercom events routed to a Logical Device on a map: Document , Revision A 5 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
Database Usage The Resource Type number for an Intercom station is 96. The Channel Type for a Stentofon Intercom channel is 14. Major tables and columns used: INTERCOM_STATION WRKST.ICOM_ID WRKST_I LOGICAL_DEV.DEF_INTERCOM Intercom Stations Default Intercom for workstation Available Intercoms for a workstation Default Intercom for Logical Device The event numbers for intercom station events are: 700 Station Busy 701 Station Free 702 Intercom Call to Busy Station 703 Intercom Call to Private Station 704 Intercom Call to Open Station 705 Station Disconnected 706 Function Dialed Outside Connection 707 Intelligent Station ID 708 Station Reset 709 Station Lamp Test 710 Audio Program Changed 711 Group Hunt Occurred 712 Mail Message 713 Digit Dialed During Connection 714 Direct Access Key Pressed (handset off) Document , Revision A 6 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
715 Digit Dialed 716 Direct Access Key Pressed 717 Handset Off-Hook 718 M-Key Pressed 719 C-Key Pressed Hardware ID s Because Intercom channels do not have a panel-like access control as channels do, the ID schema is somewhat modified. Additional changes were made to account for the ability of the Stentofon unit to have several hundred stations. This did not fit with the standard 2-digit child number of hardware devices in Pro-Watch. Thus, the hardware ID for an Intercom station in Pro-Watch, which is used by the POINT.PPID field and the refid of an IPC event message, is as follows: SiteID::14xxyy96zz Where: SiteID is the arbitrary site ID 14 is the channel type (Stentofon) xx is the channel number (arbitrarily chosen by the system) yy is the intercom station number divided by 100 zz is the remainder In this case, a Stentofon station 108 might be: SiteID:: Technical Messaging Format To manipulate an intercom connection, the client sends the host an IPC message for a HI_QUEUE command structure. Please see the document HI_QUEUE_COMMAND Reference.xls for more information on HI_QUEUE commands. The HI_QUEUE structure is as follows: Command Number: 68 Cpar1: Workstation or Originating Intercom GUID as text Cpar2: Logical Device or Target Intercom GUID as text Cpar3: Connect or Reset intercoms. (1 = Connect, 0 = Disconnect) (as text) Note If a reset of a single intercom station is desired, its GUID may be specified in Cpar1, without requiring a value in Cpar2. Alphacomm Configuration For Preach to be able to communicate with the Alphacomm Unit, the Alphacomm Unit will need to be configured. The protocol used between Pro-Watch and the Alphacomm Unit is called MPC Data Protocol, which uses the following parameters: 9600 baud, 7 data bits, Even Parity and 1 Stop bits. To configure the Alphacomm, run the Alphacomm Configuration tool that came with the unit and select Exchange & System. Document , Revision A 7 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
Configure port 1 or 2 on the Alphacomm as the serial port that will use the MPC Data Protocol. After you configure the port, the serial port setup should be configured properly and does not require any changes afterwards. After the setup is complete, you will need to send, or commit, the changes to the Alphacomm. Document , Revision A 8 of 9 Honeywell International. All rights reserved.
Note After that, you will NEED TO RESET the Alphacomm unit. Otherwise, the serial port configuration will not be activated, and the Alphacomm will not communicate with Pro-Watch. The serial cable to be used between the AlphaComm and Pro-Watch server is a Female DB9 to Female DB9 1:1 cable.
