14 ISO 9001:2008 Certified Challenges: Road Inaccessibility Challenge: BWD has two (2) units of 5m3 vacuum truck used in desludging. Hence, BWD SMP team experienced difficulty in areas with narrow and poorly constructed roads. Solutions: Well planned collection route through the use of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Geographical Positioning System (GPS) Provision for a smaller capacity vacuum truck Seek for traffic assistance from Barangay Officials

15 ISO 9001:2008 Certified Challenges: Sub-standard Septic Tanks Challenge: As of December 31, 2013, out of 2,079 concessionaires surveyed, ONLY 11 have STANDARD SEPTIC TANKS. Most of the septic tanks do not have man hole and floorings. Solutions: Additional manpower to be at the site (before desludging) to prepare the septic tank (cut or open hole to provide access to septic tank) Partnership with the Local Government Unit in the implementation of the program i.e. inspection of septic tanks prior to issuance of related permits for house construction. Partnership with micro-finance lending organization in providing loan for septic tank construction/rehabilitation

16 ISO 9001:2008 Certified Challenges: Community Acceptance Challenge: During the first few months of implementation/operation, large number of concessionaires are not willing to avail the program. Solutions: Conduct public awareness campaign on BWD Septage Management Program. Provide printed propaganda materials promoting the program

17 Challenges: Huge demand for Desludging Service Challenge: BWD has implemented collection scheme, wherein there will be a yearly per zone schedule. However, after the public awareness campaign, BWD received huge number of request [from barangays not included in the schedule] for desludging service. Solution: Improve desludging scheduling through Geographical Information System (GIS) to maximize number of concessionaire to be served. ISO 9001:2008 Certified
